Definitions
- the invention relates to a cylinder liner for an internal combustion engine, in particular for a large diesel engine.
- Cylinder liners of internal combustion engines which are shaped by casting, generally consist of cast iron with lamellar graphite.
- typical gray cast iron alloys for cylinder liners can be found in DE-AS 2 146 153.
- the gray cast iron is characterized by its good castability and a low price. Its mechanical and physical properties are particularly dependent on the structure of the structure.
- the structure consists of a metallic matrix with lamellar graphite inclusions. These break the structural cohesion the less, the finer and shorter they are.
- the graphite formation can be refined by modification in a known manner. By appropriate introduction of germs (vaccination) and / or increased cooling speed, fine lamellae can be achieved in a high quality cast iron with fine streaked pearlite.
- a cylinder liner made of this gray cast iron, alloyed with phosphorus and / or boron, has on its surface due to its advantageous heterogeneous structure and the net-shaped arrangement of very hard steadite / cementite caused by phosphorus and / or boron addition, which keeps the lubricating film on the surface , very favorable sliding properties, so that the piston rings of the piston can run well in the cylinder liner.
- the cylinder liner is cast from a pearlitic cast iron with spheroidal graphite, with its structure similar to today's customary, correspondingly alloyed bushings made of cast iron with lamellar graphite, clearly delimited, network-like, evenly distributed cementite / steadite fractions, which have an area fraction between 3 and 8%.
- the spherical shape of the graphite increases the tensile strength and the impact strength of the structure of the cylinder liner.
- the surface of the cylinder liner - as with appropriately alloyed cast iron with lamellar graphite - has a microscopically fine, net-shaped relief that ensures good adhesion for a lubricating film. This ensures good running behavior of the piston rings on the cylinder liner surface.
- the boron, phosphorus, vanadium content is to be set within the above-mentioned limits in such a way that the desired properties for the cast part are achieved and special properties are optimized according to the specific need.
- phosphorus increases wear resistance, but also has an embrittling effect, but supplies boron from the three alloying elements, Phosphorus or vanadium is the best network distribution of the cementite / steadite shares.
- Boron best promotes the wear resistance of the structure, but does not provide a network distribution of the cementite / steadite components that is not quite as good as phosphorus, while vanadium supports the tensile and wear resistance, but hardly causes a network-like distribution of the cementite / steadite components and therefore as additional alloying element would be unsuitable without boron and / or phosphorus.
