Abstract
Description
- The present invention relates to a door and window wood frame provided with improved assembly and actuating means.
- More paricularly it is a subject matter of the present invention a wood frame in which the above means allow to simplify and make faster the manufacture thereof with respect to the presently used processes.
- According to the present prior art, it is necessary to define two different manufacturing methods, that is a first method characterized by a craftsman work requiring a highly skilled operator who however will not be able to exceed some production and quantity standards, and a second method characterized by industrial scale working which, necessarily, must be provided with expensive and complicated operating machines in order to obtain required production and quantity standards.
- Anyway, the working steps for manufacturing door and window wood frames can be summarized as follows:
- shaping of bars obtained from normalized or standard wood boards;
- tenoner working of every members to be subsequentely joined;
- machine working of the frame posts and wings for hinge centering and mounting;
- molding machine working of a wing-post for mounting a closure set;
- reciprocal gluing of the wing members by means of suitable benchs assuring a perfect perpendicularity of the contained glass pane.
- It is to be pointed out that the above mentioned operating machines are complicated cumbersome and very expensive, so that they are used only for industrial scale productions, while for craftsman productions are used hand means and process which, clearly, cannot obtain acceptable quantity and quality results.
- A further drawback connected to wood frames of traditional kind consists of the fact that their wing,or frame substantially formed by post and cross member assembly, is a completly integral framing, as said members are each other glued.
- Another drawback connected with traditional frames consits of the fact that their assembly means for applying the actuating means of the frame, as for example closing devices, hinges and actuating means for said closing devices are hardly disassemblabe because they are assembled in a very complicated manner.
- It is one of the main objects of the present invention to provide a door and window wood frame with improved assembly and actuating means in which its framing can be easily and completely disassembled in a short time for any maintenance operation as for example the replacement of either an actuating device or the glass pane thereof.
- It is another object of the present invention to reduce the operating times for the frame manufacture, to facilitate the glas pane assembly and to set the perpendicularity thereof when they are already assembled.
- It is another specific object of the present invention to succed in obtaining a production of door and window wood frames according to accettable quality and quantity standard without using the above mentioned operating machines, making easier and speeding up the manufacture thereof.
- The above mentioned object is provided by means of the use of wood bars, already shaped according to the functions to be done, which need only a cutting operation according to the size of the single members forming the frame.
- Said members, that is posts and cross members, will be subsequentely properly pierced at the ends thereof in order to be joined by means of disassemblabe mechanical joints, thus eliminating tenoning and gluing operations.
- According to a further advantageous feature of the invention, on the posts of the frame and the wing a specific selfpositioning hinge will be able to be assembled fastened by means of usual screws eliminating the use of the proper special machine.
- According to another advantageous feature of the invention, on a post of the wing a specific closing set of the frame will be able to be assembled whose assembly does not require any particular working, so eliminating the use of the molding machine..
- Another specific feature of the invention consists of the fact that the wing is arranged for receiving a suitable device allowing to perpendicularly arrange a glass pane in the already assembled wing eliminating the use of benchs for assembling wings.
- The features as well as the advantages of the wood frame according to the present invention will result selfevident from the following detailed disclosure of a not limiting embodiment thereof, with reference to the enclosed figures, in which:
- figure 1 is a schematic frontal view of the frame according to the invention;
- figure 2 is a croos-section of the frame along the line X-X of figure 1;
- figure 3 is a cross-section of the frame according to the line Y-Y of figure 1;
- figure 4 is an exploded view in enlarged scale of the detail indicated by the circle A in figure 1;
- figure 5 is an exploded view in enlarged scale of the detail indicated by the circle B in figure 1;
- figure 6 is an exploded view in enlarged scale of the detail indicated by the circle C in figure 1;
- figure 7 is an exploded view in enlarged scale of the detail indicated by the circle D in figure 1, and
- figure 8 is an exploded view in enlarged scale of the detail indicated by the circle E in figure 1.
- Particularly referring to figures 2 and 3, there is described the shaping of bars obtained from wood beams, used for embodying the frame according to the invention which, just owing to the above mentioned shaping, are suitable to allow the necessary works for fastening the assembly and actuating means of the door and window frame.
- The first bar, generally indicated by the
reference 9, has a frame function showing, further to theinternal shoulder 11 and the external one 12, anintermediate shoulder 10 by means of which is applied to a wing indicated by thereference 13. The shape of the cross-section of thewing 13 has the specific feature to be employed along the whole perimeter of the frame owing to the position of grooves therein provided. - Specifically, it is provided with a
first groove 14 having the purpose of glass substaining channel, and asecond groove 15 with sliding function for a closing device about which will be herebelow told. Saidgrooves wing 13. - In figure 3 is depicted the second bar , generally indicated by the numeral 9', having the function of a lower frame cooperating too with the
wing 13. The shape of these components is exactly analogous to that of the components of the figure 2 so that like members are indicated by like references. As regards the lower frame 9', both the intermediate shoulder 10' and the external one 12' can be replaced by asuitable metal bar 16. - After having described with reference to the above mentioned figures, the shape of the bars suitable to be properly worked for applying assembly and operating means, will be now discussed in detail, referring to subsequent figures, the improved assembly and operating means with which is provided the door and window frame according to the invention and the application methods thereof.
- Specifically referring to figure 4, are presently described the assembly means of the adjacent ends of a post 13' and a cross member 13''.
- These two ends are each other connected as depicted in the detail indicated by the circle A in figure 1.
- From the above mentioned figure 4 it can be seen that both the ends of the post 13' and the cross member 13'' are pierced by substantially longitudinal bores 17' both crossed by a suitably shaped transversal bore 17''.
- The above mentioned bores cross each other defining a
recess 17. - The above mentioned bores have been pierced for housing a mechanical connecting joint indicated as a whole by the numeral 18, the advantageous features consists in that it may be inserted in the above mentioned bores and being composable and lockable for firmly connect the above mentioned ends of the post 13' and the cross member 13''.
- The joint 18 comprises a
first member 19 of substantially cylindric shape thelower portion 23 of which is a solid rod and is provided with atraversing bore 25 suitable to allow the entry of alocking screw 22 of a proper length. Theportion 23 of thefirst member 19 provides on the opposite side, with respect to that thetraversing bore 25 is visible, a recess or undercut 24 shown by dashed lines and having a length subtantially equal to the diameter of theportion 23. Such arecess 24 is open to the outside of themember 19. - The upper portion of the
first member 19 has asubstantial lattice structure 26 consisting of a plurality of essentially radial recesses arranged, in the present illustrative embodiment, on three superimposed planes. - The
first member 19 of the joint 18 is suitable to be inserted into the longitudinal bore 17' of the end of the post 13' and, specifically, the height thereof is substantially equal to the length of said bore 17' while the location of thebore 25 is such that is going to be arranged in register with the transversal bore 17''. - The joint 18 comprises also a
second member 20 essentially consisting of aparallelepiped hallow body 27 provided on two opposed sides with two properly shaped protrusions 27' and 27'', respectively. More specifically, said protrusions 27' and 27'' are two portions of anintegral body 29 longitudinally traversing thebody 27. The last one is further provided, on its lower side, with ashaped groove 28. - The above mentioned
body 29 has alongitudinal bore 30 along the whole length till a traversingrecess 31 of the portion 27' suited to receive a third member of the herebelow disclosed joint. - The
second member 20 of the joint 18 is suitable to be applied to the end of the cross member 13'' and, more specifically, the substantially cylindric portion 27' thereof is suitable to be introduced into the longitudinal bore 17' of said end. The length thereof is such that, when it is inserted in the bore 17', the recess thereof 31 is aligned with the bore 17'' and, more particularly, with therecess 17. - The above mentioned third member of the joint, indicated as a whole by the
numeral 21, consists of two essentiallycylindric portions 32 and 32' of different diameter which are each other connected by an intermediateparallelepiped portion 33 in which is made a transversal threaded throughhole 34. - The fastening of the above mentioned ends of the post 13' and the cross member 13'' is provided by inserting the
first member 19 in the longitudinal bore 17' of the post 13' and, subsequentely, thehollow body 27 of thesecond member 20 into therecess 14 of the post 13', by inserting the portion 27'' in the transversal bore 17'' till it comes into the recess or undercut 24 of thefirst member 19. The second portion 27' of thesecond member 20 is inserted into the longitudinal bore 17' of the end of the cross member 13'' till therecess 31 is arranged into the transversal bore 17'' and at last thethird member 21 is inserted in saidrecess 31 through said hole 17'' in order to have itsparallelepiped portion 33 housed in therecess 31. At last, thelocking screw 22 is provided for fastening all the above mentioned members which loock and firmly connects the two above mentioned ends. Particularly, thescrew 22 is inserted into thebore 25 of thefirst member 19, in thebore 30 of thesecond member 20 for screw engaging thebore 34 of thethird member 21. - Referring now specifically to figure 5, the assembling means of the end of an
intermediate cross member 35 with the post 13' of the wing are described, that is the detail indicated by the circle B in figure 1. Also in this case said means consist of a disassemblabe mechanical joint, indicated as a whole by thereference 36, formed by suitable portions to be respectively fastened to thecross member 35 and to the post 13' and provided with means for locking both each other said portions and said post and cross member. - In the
cross member 35 two substantially perpendicular holes are pierced, likely to what described for the figure 4, so that said holes are indicated by the same numerals. - On the contrary, in the post 13' is pierced only a transversal bore 19' of suitable length.
