Abstract

A backrest (8) for a chair, specifically, in particular, an office chair, has a support plate (11) and a covering shell (14) attached to its rear side (13). With its edges (35, 37) said covering shell covers the support plate (11) in the region of its edges (16, 19). In order to allow simple assembly and demounting of the covering shell (14) on the support plate (11), hook connections (17, 20) are constructed between the support plate (11) and the covering shell (14) and are lockable or releasable by displacing the support plate (11) and the covering shell (14) relative and substantially parallel to one another. <IMAGE>

Description

The invention relates to a backrest for a chair, in particular an office chair, according to the preamble of claim 1.

In known backrests of the generic type, the cover shell is provided with arrow-shaped locking pins, which thus have barb-like tips, while correspondingly undercut receiving sleeves are provided for the locking pins on the back of the support plate. The production is relatively complex, since the locking pins on the one hand and the receiving sleeves on the other hand cannot be made from cheap plastic, but must be glued if relatively simple plastics are used for the support plate and the cover shell itself. In addition, the assembly of the cover shell on the support plate is relatively simple, although it takes a lot of effort; however, loosening is only possible with great difficulty and usually leads to a break-off of at least some of the locking pins, so that re-assembly is not reliably possible.

The invention has for its object to design a backrest of the generic type so that assembly and disassembly is very easy, with one-piece production of the support plate on the one hand and the cover shell on the other hand should be possible.

Die Ansprüche 3 bis 1o geben zahlreiche zum Teil erfinderische Ausgestaltungen der Haken-Verbindungen an.This object is achieved by the features in the characterizing part of claim 1. The support plate and the cover shell are connected to one another by pushing one into the other and, if necessary, latching the hook connections, or in principle are detached from one another in the opposite direction. A particularly reliable holder is achieved by the development according to claim 2. Claims 3 to 1o indicate numerous, partly inventive, configurations of the hook connections.

As can be seen in claim 11, it is particularly advantageous if at least some of the edges of the cover shell are incorporated into the locking system as elastic members.

Fig. 1 shows an office chair which has a base frame 1, which is supported by rollers 2 against the floor. On the base frame 1, a height-adjustable chair column 3 is attached, at the upper end of which a seat support 4 is attached, on which in turn a seat 5 is attached. The height of the chair column 3 is adjusted by means of an operating lever 6 mounted in the seat support 4. A backrest support 7, which carries a backrest 8, is also mounted on the seat support 4. To change the inclination of the backrest support 7 with the backrest 8 - if necessary while simultaneously changing the inclination the seat 5 - a further actuating lever 9 is mounted on the seat support 4. The basic structure of the office chair described is generally known. The height-adjustable chair column 3 is known for example from DE-PS 19 31 o12 (corresponding to US-PS 3 711 o54). The structure of the seat support 4 including the described pivoting possibilities of the backrest 8 and seat 5 is known for example from EP-A1-o 179 185 (corresponding to US Pat. No. 4,966,412). The seat support 4 can be partially optically covered by a panel 10 attached to the underside of the seat 5.

The backrest 8 has an inner support plate 11, which is covered on its front side facing the user with a padding 12. On its rear side 13 facing away from the user, it is provided with a cover shell 14 in a manner to be described in more detail.

The backrest support 7 is fastened to the back 13 of the support plate 11 by means of a horizontal swivel joint 15, so that - within predetermined limits - the backrest 8 can be pivoted relative to the backrest support 7. Adjacent to the lower edge 16 of the support plate 11, a latching hook 17, 17 'is attached on both sides of the swivel joint 15, the two hooks 17, 17' being arranged mirror-symmetrically to the vertical central-longitudinal symmetry plane 18 of the backrest 8. Adjacent to the upper edge 19 of the support plate 11 and also symmetrical to the plane of symmetry 18 are holding hooks 2o, 2o 'on the rear 13 of the Support plate 11 attached. The hooks 17, 17 ', 2o, 2o' are formed in one piece with the support plate 11 molded from plastic.

The cover shell 14, which is also injection molded from plastic, has on its inside 21 one-piece plate-shaped abutments 22, 22 'and 23, 23', which are assigned to the hooks 17, 17 ', 2o, 2o'.

The locking hooks 17, 17 'are each assigned an abutment 22, 22', while the holding hooks 2o, 2o 'are assigned the abutments 23, 23' which are rigid against bending in the direction of the edges 16, 19 '.

The holding hooks 2o, 2o 'adjacent to the upper edge 19 have a rigid stand 24 attached to the support plate 11, on the upper side of which a plate-shaped projection directed toward the upper edge 19, approximately at right angles, is formed. This projection 25 is assigned a receiving opening 26 in the abutment 23 or 23 'which is adapted in cross section. The projection 25 has on its rear side 13 of the support plate 11 a guide surface 27 which is inclined from the free end 28 of the projection 25 in such a way that it approaches the rear side 13 and at the transition into the stand 24 the smallest distance from the back 13 has.

The latching hooks 17, 17 'each also have a bending-resistant stand 28, on the rear side 13 of which A plate-shaped projection 29 protrudes from the end facing away from the support plate 11 in the direction of the upper edge 19 of the support plate 11 and is angled at right angles. This projection 29 is also assigned a receiving opening 3o in each abutment 22, 22 'which is adapted in cross section. On the side facing the rear side 13 of the support plate 11, each projection 29 has a holding surface 31 which runs approximately parallel to the rear side 13 and which has an undercut 32 at the transition to the stand 28. On their side facing the projections 25 and 29, the stands 24 and 28 each have a stop surface 33 and 34 for the abutments 23, 23 'and 22, 22'. The distance a between the stop faces 33, 34 parallel to the plane of symmetry 18 is approximately equal to the distance a 'between the abutments 22, 23 and 22', 23 'also parallel to the plane of symmetry 18. The extent b of the projections 25 from the stop surface 33 parallel to the plane of symmetry 18 is somewhat larger than the corresponding extension c of the projections 29.

The assembly of a cover shell 14 on the support plate 11 is shown in FIGS. 4 to 6. As can be seen in FIG. 4, the shell 14 is placed against the rear side 13 of the support plate 11, namely offset to the upper edge 19 in such a way that the abutments 23, 23 'with their receiving openings 26 arrive in front of the respectively assigned projection 25. The cover shell 14 is then shifted slightly towards the lower edge 16 of the support plate 11 so that the projections 25 penetrate slightly into the respective receiving opening 26, as can be seen in FIG. 4, in this way far until the abutment 22 or 22 'comes to rest against the respective projection 29 of the locking hook 17 or 17'. The upper edge 35 of the cover shell 14 facing the upper edge 19 now lies against the cushion strip 36 encompassing the upper edge 19, namely approximately flush with the rear side 13 of the support plate 11. The lower edge 37 of the cover shell 14 is, however, still located at a distance from the rear 13 of the support plate 11. Now the cover shell 14 is displaced relative to the support plate 11 in the direction of its lower edge 16, in accordance with the direction of the arrow 38. Here, the abutment 23, 23 'slides on the guide surface 27 in the direction to the stand 24 until it comes to rest against its stop surface 33. The upper edge 35 of the cover shell 14 is thus also shifted towards the support plate 11, namely in overlap with the upper edge 19 of the support plate 11. The cushion strip 36 is deformed here, as can be seen in FIG. 5.

During this shift according to the direction of the arrow 38, the projection 29 bears against the respective abutment 22 or 22 ', so that the abutment 22 or 22' - as can be seen in FIG. 5 - is bent against the direction of the arrow 38. The lower edge 37 of the cover shell 14 comes into engagement with the cushion strip 39 of the upholstery 12 encompassing the lower edge 16. However, it is still at a distance from the lower edge 16. The lower edge 37 is then opened in accordance with the pressure arrow 4o the support plate 11 pressed out, whereby the receiving opening 3o of the abutment 22 or 22 'in front the projection 29 comes and correspondingly the projection 29 penetrates into the receiving opening 30, with elastic relaxation of the respective abutment 22 or 22 '. As a result, the cover shell 14 comes into its covering position shown in FIG. 6, in which its lower edge 37 also covers the associated cushion strip 39 and deforms the lower edge 16 of the support plate 11. In the same way, the side edges 41 of the support plate 11 are naturally covered by the side edges 42 of the cover shell 14.

2o' kommen. To disassemble the cover shell 14, this is - as can be seen from Fig. 7 - in the region of its lower edge 37 - according to the pressure arrow 43 - slightly pressed towards the rear 13 of the support plate 11, so that the abutment 22 and 22 'except Engagement with the undercut 32 of the respective projection 29 comes. At the same time, a greater pressure is exerted in the direction of the upper edge 19 in accordance with the direction of pressure arrow 44 on the lower edge 37 of the shell 14, so that the lower edge 37 overlapping the lower edge 16 is elastically deformed against the direction of pressure arrow 44. This displacement movement is carried out until the receiving opening 30 of the abutment 22 or 22 'disengages from the projection 29, as can be seen in FIG. 7. Then the area of the lower edge 37 of the shell 14 can be lifted against the pressure direction arrow 43 from the support plate 11 and then the cover shell 14 can be moved so far towards the upper edge 19 until the abutments 23, 23 'out of engagement with the Projection 25 of the holding hooks 2o and 2o 'come.

It is also conceivable that the assembly and disassembly takes place in the opposite direction, that is to say the assembly of the cover shell 14 relative to the support plate 11 from bottom to top and the disassembly accordingly from top to bottom, that is to say with elastic deformation of the upper edge 35. In this case, the latching hooks 17, 17 'would also be arranged in the region of the upper edge 19 and the retaining hooks 20, 20' in the region of the lower edge 16.

As can be seen from the above, at least the upper edge 35 and the lower edge 37 of the cover shell 14 are also part of the elastic locking system, since these edges 35, 37 contribute to the cover shell 14 being in the locked state cannot be accidentally released from the support plate 11 without the use of force from the outside.

Due to the taper of the backrest 8, which can be seen in FIGS. 1, 2, 3, the embodiment described is the cheapest.
