  1. A suspension assembly comprising, for suspending any shaped member from any support, a head (21) capable of being fixed to the support to be equipped therewith, a base member (22) capable of receiving the shaped member to be suspended and a rod (23) connecting said base member (22) to said head (21), said rod (23) being coupled to said head (21) by way of journals (30) extending transversely with respect thereto and mounted pivotably on said head (21), the head (21) having two limbs (36) in parallel relationship with each other, the journals (30) extending from one of said limbs (36) to the other transversely with respect thereto, being engaged pivotably in apertures (41) in said limbs (36), and the rod (23) extending freely between said limbs (36) parallel thereto, characterised in that, the two limbs (36) of the head (21) being connected to each other by a transverse portion (37), said transverse portion (37) has a recess (43) which, being of sufficient width for the rod (23) to pass therethrough, extends generally parallel to said limbs (36), and the journals (30) extend freely from one thereof to the other.
  2. A suspension assembly according to claim 1 characterised in that the rod (23) is in engagement with a cross piece (32) whose ends form the journals (30).
  3. A suspension assembly according to claim 2 characterised in that the cross piece (32) is of a gutter-like shape.
  4. A suspension assembly according to any one of claims 1 to 3 characterised in that the distance separating the two limbs (36) of the head (21) from each other is at most equal to treble the diameter of the rod (23).
  5. A suspension assembly according to any one of claims 1 to 4 characterised in that the bottom (44) of the recess (43) is of the same profile as the rod (23) and its centre (C2) is substantially level with that (C1) of the apertures (41) in the limbs (36).
  6. A suspension assembly according to any one of claims 1 to 5 characterised in that the rod (23) is a screwthreaded rod and it is in screwthreaded engagement with the cross piece (32).
  7. A suspension assembly according to claim 6 characterised in that, by means of a boss (34) which, in projecting relationship from its outside surface, extends between the limbs (36) of the head (21), the cross piece (32) transversely has a threaded aperture (33).
  8. A suspension assembly according to claim 7 characterised in that at the edge of its aperture (41), one of the limbs (36) of the head (21) has a cut-out portion (42) for the boss (34) of the cross piece (32) to pass therethrough.
  9. A suspension assembly according to claim 8 characterised in that said cut-out portion (42) extends at the side of said aperture (41) which is opposite to the transverse portion (37).
  10. A suspension assembly according to any one of claims 1 to 9 characterised in that the head (21) is in the form of an omega-shaped stirrup.
  11. A suspension assembly according to claim 10 characterised in that the limbs (36) of the head (21) are each respectively provided at right angles along their free edges with co-planar fixing lugs (38).
