  • Lors du conditionnement, les flans sont dressés pour être mis en volume et l'on recherche un maximum de mécanisation qui, comme on le sait, est d'autant plus simple que les mouvements de pièces pour le pliage sont orthogonaux et il faut à tout prix éviter les réglages angulaires.
  • Lors du transport des articles emballés, les contenants doivent occuper le minimum d'espace et se caler sans place perdue dans des caisses, boîtes ou conteneurs parallélépipédiques.
Several reasons combine to limit oneself, practically, to rectangular shapes:

Le fond est de type courant, composé de quatre volets rabattus et bloqués au moyen d'une patte insérée sous le dernier volet rabattu, grâce à des encoches. Aucune des faces de ce contenant n'est recouverte entièrement ou partiellement par des panneaux triangulaires.
  • FR-A-2 252 258 qui décrit un contenant prismatique dont une face est un fond sur lequel se retrouvent tous les moyens de fermeture, lesquels sont essentiellement constitués de pattes devant être insérées sous des rabats, cette mise en place étant facilitée par la présence d'encoches pour permettre de dresser les contenants de manière mécanique et automatique. Aucune des faces de ce contenant n'est recouverte entièrement ou partiellement par des panneaux triangulaires.
  • NL-A-74/08 072 qui décrit aussi un contenant prismatique obtenu par soudure d'une gaine tubulaire et qui ne peut être ouvert que par une coupure définitive interdisant plusieurs ouvertures et fermetures successives. L'invention décrite consiste, d'ailleurs, à faciliter l'écrasement du contenant vide afin qu'il soit moins volumineux quand on s'en débarrasse. Aucune des faces de ce contenant n'est recouverte entièrement ou partiellement par des panneaux triangulaires.
  • DE-U-05 558 qui décrit un contenant ayant la forme d'un parallélépipède rectangle. L'invention décrite permet d'accéder aux serviettes en papier après avoir arraché, suivant les lignes prédécoupées, une partie du contenant. Un couvercle étant fixé sur la face supérieure du parallélépipède permet une ouverture/fermeture multiple du contenant; dans la position fermé il recouvre entièrement la surface arrachée du contenat. Le couvercle ayant deux panneaux triangulaires, mais lesdits panneaux ne sont pas liés par des lignes de rainage communes.
