Abstract

In a telemetry method for measuring the duration of a period, an increased measurement resolution is achieved by the fact that firstly clock pulses are counted over the duration of one period of the signal to be measured for determining an approximate duration of the period, that then a table containing this period duration count is read out in order to obtain a number of measurement periods which is allocated to a period duration range, the number of measurement periods being selected in such a manner that counting of the clock pulses by means of the counter does not quite lead to a counter overflow even with the longest duration of a period in this range of period durations, and that then clock pulses are counted over the number of period durations of periods of the measurement signal so that finally the count obtained, together with a coding of the number of measurement periods, can be transmitted to a telemetry receiver. <IMAGE>
