Abstract

In a plate condenser (2) fluff from the process air settles, preeminently in the inflow region, on the plate surfaces arranged in the process-air circuit. To make it easier to clean the condenser plates (21), according to the invention there is a grating composed of strips (24) which cover the end edges of the plates and are connected to one another by means of narrow transverse ribs (25). These transverse ribs extend a short way in the direction of the process air between the plates (21) and are connected to one another at their ends by means of scraping lips (26, 32) arranged transversely thereto. The scraping lips are flush with the plate surfaces, but otherwise have a shape streamlined for the benefit of the process air. <IMAGE>

Description

The invention is based on a household tumble dryer with a condenser arranged in the process air circuit, which contains a plurality of stacked heat exchanger plates with cavities which are in a cooling circuit which is as hermetically sealed as possible against the process air circuit, with the respectively assigned cavity enclosing, accessible from an operating side of the dryer from the front edges of the plates against the process air flow.

Such a dryer is known from DE-PS 30 27 900. The process air upstream side of the heat exchanger plates is exposed to an increased degree to the action of fluff which is carried along in the process air stream from the laundry drum of the dryer. The fluff is deposited with the condensate on the relatively cool heat exchanger plates. While the condensate flows off the plates in the direction of flow, the fluff mainly sticks to the leading edge and in the front area of each individual plate. Gradually, a thick felt of deposited laundry fluff is created, which worsens the heat transfer from the process air to the condenser surface, so that condensation hardly takes place in this area. The result is a decreasing condenser performance. In the known tumble dryer it is provided that the entire block of heat exchanger plates can be made removable from the housing inside the tumble dryer so that it can be handled more easily for cleaning. For this purpose, cleaning under running water is provided. However, the adherence of the deposited lint is so great that the lint must be processed with additional tools (e.g. with a bottle brush) to remove it.

The invention has for its object to design the condenser in a tumble dryer of the type mentioned in such a way that the removal of the fluff deposited on the heat exchanger plates is facilitated without having to remove the plate stack of the heat exchanger from its housing.

According to the invention, this object is achieved in that a grating is provided from strips covering the end edges, which are connected to one another by narrow transverse ribs, which extend a short distance in the direction of the process air between the plates and are connected to one another at their ends by crosswise arranged stripping lips are that connect closely to the plate surfaces, but are otherwise aerodynamically shaped for the process air.

Behind the gratings, lint still settles on the plates in the inflow area, but an operator can pull the gratings as a whole component forward from the plates so that the wiping lips clean the inflow area of the plates from fluff. A fluff felt that has been deposited there is, in any case, removed in its entirety from the plate surfaces.

For easier handling when removing the gratings, they are connected with a handle. The handle should be placed in front of the front surface of a strip so that it does not stand in the direct air flow in front of the space between two plates.

To simplify production and for easier handling when rinsing, the gratings, the transverse ribs and the wiper lips consist of a one-piece molded plastic part.

The invention is explained below using an exemplary embodiment shown in the drawing. Show it:
  • 1 is a side view through a household clothes dryer with a plate condenser,
  • 2 shows the inflow area of the plate stack in a perspective view,
  • Fig. 3 shows a section through the plate stack in the flow direction of the process air between the transverse ribs of the gratings and
  • Fig. 4 shows a section through a plate stack according to FIG. 3 with a variant of the gratings.

The tumble dryer in FIG. 1 has a housing 10 with an internal drying space 11, which can be designed as a horizontally rotatably mounted drum. Between this and the rear wall of the dryer there is a supply air channel 12, in which the process air is heated by means of a heating device 13 and blown into the drying room by a fan 14 via a grid wall 15. At the front of the dryer there is a loading opening 16 for loading the laundry items to be dried. The loading opening is then closed by a door 17.

The process air blown by the blower 14 through the drying chamber 11 and the annular gap between the door and the outer frame of the loading opening 16 enters the exhaust air duct 19 through the fluff filter 18. From there, the process air reaches the condenser 2. The condenser is shown cut along the flow direction of the process air and contains heat-conducting plates 21 with cavities through which a cooling medium flows, for example fresh cooling air, transversely to the process air. The process air is indicated by a filled arrow on the warm side and by a dashed line on the cold side. longitudinal arrow shown. The warm and moisture-laden process air releases heat and moisture from the surfaces of the plates 21 and flows to the blower 14 in a cooled state. The moisture collects at the outlet of the condenser and flows off to the condensate collecting container 22, from which the condensate can be pumped out or removed manually.

At the front of the dryer housing 10 there is also a door or flap 23 which can be opened by the operator for the purpose of cleaning the condenser 2.

The plate stack partially shown in FIG. 2 is shown cut at the height of the column of superimposed transverse ribs in the direction of the process air. Warmed cooling air flows from the sectional plane of the plates 21, indicated by the striated arrow. The end edges of the plates 21 facing the process air are covered by strips 24 which are connected to one another by narrow transverse ribs 25. As a result, they form a grating that can be pushed over the plate stack from the front edge side of the capacitor. The transverse ribs 25 extend a short distance in the direction of the process air (filled arrow) between the plates 21 and are connected to one another at their ends by wiper lips 26 arranged transversely to the process air. The wiping lips close to the surfaces of the plates 21, so that when the gratings are pulled off, the wiping lips scrape over the plate surfaces and lift off any fluff that may be attached. So that the wiper lips 26 do not excessively impede the process air flow, they are shaped in a streamlined profile. The transverse ribs 27 arranged above the uppermost plate 21 form the outer end of the gratings and, in the example of FIG. 2, only carry wiping lips directed towards the plate 21 below.

In the condenser shown in FIG. 3 in the flow direction of the process air between two transverse ribs, the uppermost transverse rib 27 also has an upward wiping lip 26 in order to wipe off any fluff attached to the inner surface of the condenser housing 2. In this example of FIG. 3, the transverse ribs 25 and 27 are also not shaped like a window as in FIG. 2, but are shaped as filled strips. Their front leading edges between the strips 24 covering the end edges are also shaped to be aerodynamic.

For easy removal of the gratings from the stack of plates, a handle 28 is arranged on a strip 24 so that the tensile forces act uniformly on all parts of the gratings. The gratings are now removed from the plates for cleaning. The wiping lips 26 scrape the lint deposited in the inflow area from the plate surfaces. They either adhere to the front edges of the plates or to the wiping lips 26, from where they can be easily removed in each case. In addition, the gratings themselves will also be covered with adhering fluff that can be easily rinsed off under running water.

Another advantage for the designer of a condenser equipped according to the invention is that he can firmly integrate the entire condenser block in the housing of the tumble dryer, thereby opening up the possibility of considerably reducing the housing parts for the condenser block and the process air and cooling air guides. to seal better. This will significantly increase the efficiency of such a tumble dryer.

The gratings indicated schematically in FIG. 4 have springs 30, each with a common root 31, which holds the strips 24 together, as transverse ribs reaching between the plates 21 in the direction of the process air. The wiper lips 32 are connected to the ends of the springs 30 and are engaged in beads 29 in the operating position of the gratings. On the one hand, the gratings are fixed in their operating position and, on the other hand, sufficient force is exerted on the plate surfaces to scrape off the fluff. In addition, the wiper lips 32 immersed in the beads 29 are completely removed from the process air stream and therefore do not form any flow resistance.
