Abstract

The package has a laterally folded bag (10). For tearing open, tearing lines (22) are provided which begin at the handle (18) and initially run congruently. In the upper wall parts (14a, 14b), the tearing lines diverge towards the corners (23) in order to end in the end wall (12) or to converge again. For tearing open, the four-layered region (21) of the handle (18) is pulled. The tearing then takes place in a defined manner, there being produced along the upper wall (14) a removal opening which can extend into the end wall (12). …<IMAGE>…

Description

The invention relates to a pack of the type specified in the preamble of claim 1, namely a pack with a rectangular gusseted bag.

Packs for diapers, sanitary napkins and other flexible packaged goods are increasingly being designed in such a way that the packaged goods are introduced into a bag in a compressed state and the bag is then closed. Gusseted bags can be used as bags for such packaged goods. These are bags that are made from tubing with folded gussets. When the bags are opened, the end walls of the bag emerge from the side folds. A perforation is provided on the bag to remove the contents of the pack. Such a perforation is usually located on one of the main walls of the bag. The user can reach into this main wall and pull out a tab delimited by the perforation. In the case of compressed packaged goods, however, the pack then bends and deforms because the main walls absorb the tensile stresses exerted by the packaged goods.

A package is known from EP 0 349 050 A2 in which compressed packaged goods are contained in a gusseted bag. A perforation delimited by tear lines is provided as an opening device on one of the end walls and extends only over part of the width of this end wall. When the tab is pulled open, the side regions of the end wall are retained, so that the bag essentially retains its rectangular configuration and the end wall continues to keep the packaged goods compressed. The packaged goods can be removed through the opening that is formed, with lateral deformation. A disadvantage of this pack is that it has to be opened to open the end wall of the bag in order to grasp part of the tab delimited by the tear lines and then to open it. A handle can be attached to the tab, but this requires additional manufacturing and material use. However, the handle does not guarantee that the tear line is defined. The bag material can therefore tear outside the tear line. Because of the remaining parts of the end wall, it is difficult to remove the objects from the bag.

The invention has for its object to provide a package of the type specified in the preamble of claim 1 in such a way that it can be opened easily and in a defined manner, the tearing of the tear seams at an easily accessible location being carried out in a simple manner and with high accuracy.

This object is achieved according to the invention with the features specified in claim 1.

The pack according to the invention has a gusseted bag with a grip part. Such a gusseted bag is made from a tube of film material or paper material, which is provided with gussets in a known manner. This tube is first welded or sealed in the transverse direction along two connecting seams. These connecting seams delimit the handle part, in which a handle recess can be made at the same time or later. The bag is then spread open at its lower end in order to introduce the filling material. Then the bottom wall of the bag is closed. Such a side-gusset bag has a handle part which projects upwards from the packaged goods space and consists of extensions of the side walls. The handle part is essentially two-ply, but has four-ply areas at its ends, in which the folded extensions of the end walls are located. In such a bag with a projecting handle part, the tear lines are provided on the handle part and in the wall parts of the top wall. To open the bag, the grip part is gripped with both hands, one hand engaging the main part of the grip part, while the other hand engages the tearable part of the grip part. The opening of the tear-open thus takes place by gripping a single (multi-layer) wall which is formed by the handle part. This enables the tear lines to be defined in a defined manner. After the tear lines along the handle part are torn open, the tearing process continues in the single-layer wall parts of the top wall. This creates a tear tab in the top wall, which extends to the end wall of the bag. The contents of the bag can be pulled out through the generally triangular opening which is exposed by this tear-open tab. However, the tear tab can also extend into the end wall of the bag. The part which extends into the end wall can have a triangular, parabolic or other configuration, parts of the end wall generally being left intact in order to withstand the pressure of the compressed packaged goods.

By partially opening the top wall of the bag, its resistance to compressed packaged goods is not significantly reduced. On the one hand, the main walls of the bag absorb the essential tensile stresses, and on the other hand only an approximately triangular opening is created in the upper wall, so that the remaining wall parts can still transmit tensile forces.

The gusseted bag of the pack according to the invention can consist of plastic film, in particular polyethylene film, or also of paper that is provided with a hot melt coating. In both cases, the transverse connecting seams can be produced thermally in a simple manner. After the tear-open tab has been torn off, the bag maintains its shape because the opening extends in a defined form only over those wall parts which do not absorb any significant forces in response to the force of the compressible packaged goods.

The pack shown in FIG. 1 in the filled and closed state has a side gusset bag 10 which is generally cuboid or rectangular in shape and has two parallel main walls 11, two end walls 12, a bottom wall 13 and an upper wall 14. The bottom wall 13 is closed by a lower connecting seam 15, in which folds 16 of the end walls 12 are integrated. Another type of bottom folding can also be provided.

The top wall 14 consists of two wall parts 14a and 14b which represent extensions of the main walls 11 and which are connected to one another by an upper connecting seam 17 which extends from one end wall 12 to the opposite end wall 12. Raised from the upper connecting seam 17 in the manner of a rooster comb is the rectangular handle part 18, which is provided with a punched-out grip 19 and is delimited at the upper end by a further connecting seam 20. The handle part 18 consists of the two extensions of the main walls 11 and the upper wall parts 14a and 14b and it is generally in two layers. At the ends, however, the grip part 18 has four-layer sections 21, in which the folds of the side folds 24 of the former side fold fold tube are located.

To open the closed bag tear lines 22 are provided, which are shown in the drawings by dotted lines. These tear lines 22 can be formed from perforations, weakening lines or, to be explained later, from the weakened edges of welding or sealing surfaces.

This section 22a runs in the two-layer region of the handle part 18 along the boundary to the four-layer region 21. The four-layer region 21 thus forms a stiffened handle, which is part of the subsequent pull tab. At the upper end of section 22a is a tear notch 23 to facilitate scribing. In section 22a, the tear lines 22 run congruently to one another in both layers. At the foot of section 22a, namely at the connecting seam 17, the tear lines 22 diverge in the form of the diverging sections 22b, which each lead to the upper corner regions of the packing space, i.e. to the upper corners 23 of the relevant end wall 12.

In the embodiment of FIGS. 1 and 2, further sections 22c of the tear lines 22 extend from the corners 23 into the end wall 12. These sections 22c converge and they can be connected to one another in a transition section 22d. If the transition section 22d is present, the tear-off tab 25 delimited by the tear lines 22 is torn off from the bag 10 as a whole. However, if the tear-off tab is to remain on the bag, the sections 22c are not connected to one another, which is indicated in the drawings by a dash-dotted line 26.

Fig. 2 shows the tearing of the tab 25, which is detected in the four-layer area 21 and pulled off. The packaged goods 27 are then exposed for removal. The packaged goods 27 consist, for example, of baby diapers, which have been introduced into the bag 10 in a compressed state, the compression pressure between the end walls 12 of the bag being effective. It can be seen that the triangular shape of the opening 28 in the top wall 14 allows this top wall to transmit longitudinal forces between the end walls 12 and that by tearing off the tab 25 the bag shape is not changed. The part of the opening 25 located in the region of the end wall 12 also allows wall regions to remain over the entire height of the end wall.

Die Abschnitte 22b der Reißlinien 22 verlaufen eng benachbart zu den Kanten der dreilagigen Abschnitte 32.In the embodiment according to FIG. 3, the tear lines end at the corners 23 of the bag, so that an opening is only created in the upper wall 14, but not in the end wall 12. FIG. 4 shows a part of the bag hose from which the bags 10 5, wherein the portions 14b and 14c of the perforation are already attached to the flat tube in the bag making machine. The side gussets 24 are then folded in and the connecting seams 17 and 20 are produced on the tube which has been laid flat and has gusseted side gussets. 5 only serves to explain the different positions and folds of the bag. The hose or pouch is never in the condition shown in the figures when it is manufactured. 4 and 5 are shown to illustrate the bag structure. From Fig. 5 it can be seen that in the handle 18 there is a two-layer area and at the ends a four-layer area 21, which is caused by the folding 30 of the extension of the material of the end wall 12. Folds 31 are also located under the ends of the top wall parts 14a and 14b. There, these two-layer folds 31 and the wall parts 14a and 14b each produce triangular three-layer regions 32. The sections 22b of the tear lines 22 run closely adjacent to the edges of the three-layer sections 32 .

While the sections 22b and 22c of the tear lines 22 are already attached in the bag tube, it is expedient to produce the sections 22a only on the finished handle, that is to say during or after the production of the connecting seams 17 and 20. In this way, the sections 22a can better in mutual agreement.

In the exemplary embodiment in FIG. 6, the two uppermost layers of the three-layer regions 32 are welded or sealed to one another, which is indicated by the hatching. A line of weakness usually forms at the edge of a welding area or weld. By welding the area 32 together, either over the entire surface or along a line, a weakening line 22b is created, so that the application of a perforation is not necessary. Another advantage is that the top wall does not contain any holes at this point, so that the package remains watertight. The sections 22a, on the other hand, can be produced as perforations. A weld seam or welding surface for connecting the two upper layers of the three-layer region 32 can be made by inserting a welding tool into the gap in the fold 31 and pressing another welding tool from the outside against the wall part 14a or 14b of the upper wall 14.

In the embodiment of FIG. 7, the tear lines consist of perforations. In order to avoid that water can reach the packaged goods directly from the outside, these perforations are arranged over the fold 31, i.e. the edges 33 of the fold 31 project further inwards than the sections 22b. Water that penetrates through the perforation is kept away from the packaged goods by the fold 31.

In all of the exemplary embodiments, the section 22b of the tear lines runs along or at least in the vicinity of the edge of the fold 31. As a result, the tearing process is carried out through the edge of the fold.
