Abstract

Aluminium-free envelopes for all kinds of containers and bottles of hydrophobic, virtually water-resistant and alkali-resistant crepe paper having fibres running transversely to the crepeing and having an extension transverse to the longitudinal direction of the container or of the bottle of between 10 and 20% and having a crepe height of between 0.20 and 0.30 mm and a thickness of between 0.20 and 0.35 mm, which rests against the curved surface of the vessel or of the bottle virtually without folds and is then stuck on or pressed on.

Description

Through disposable bottles and through the recycling of containers and bottles, wrappings made of aluminum (Al) foils attached to them, by dissolving them with alkaline cleaning liquids or by hydrolysis, lead to the formation of water-soluble aluminates, such as Na [Al (OH) ₄], and thereby to stress the environment, especially water.

If aluminates from wastewater are precipitated with aqueous ammonia, NH₄OH, before being discharged into the receiving water, a poorly filterable hydroxide, Al (OH) ₃ is formed. The use of this precipitant leads to a further pollution of the watercourses by the nitrogen component.

Stirring with carbon dioxide, CO₂, is technologically complex. The result is a gel-like precipitate that is difficult to drain.

These disadvantages caused by the formation of soluble Al compounds and by the need for treatment stages are avoided by the aluminum-free coatings of the invention.

The patent specification DE-C-156604 describes a method for producing bottle and tube sleeves from corrugated cardboard softened with glue vapors.

In the steamed state, these sleeves are completely wrapped around the bottles and vessels. to make them shockproof for handling.

This older state of the art could not be used in practice, because tearing and wrinkling cannot be avoided.

Due to the thickness of the cardboard there is only a low permeability for the softening water. As a result, the drying becomes irregular and this is too slow because of the amount of glue water.

A considerable disadvantage is that when the coating is removed in the alkaline phase, a finely divided, fibrous, pasty mass is formed which is poorly and only slowly filterable.

In contrast, the wrapper of the invention consists of thin crepe paper with a thickness of only 0.20-0.35 mm. Softening with water is not necessary. Rather, the adaptations of the wrappings to the vessels and bottles are achieved by means of elasticity due to the specific fiber orientation and the defined stretching transverse to the longitudinal direction of the vessels.

The coverings of the invention are practically wrinkle-free and crack-free, and they can be dried uniformly by quickly diffusing out the small amount of water from the glue dispersion.

When detached for disposal, this covering only remains as a unit around the neck of the vessels and can therefore be easily removed. The defined crepe height also allows printing before gluing.

The invention relates to a method for producing aluminum-free casings for all kinds of vessels and for bottles according to the preamble of claim 1 (see DE-C-156604).

It is the object of the invention to produce aluminum-free envelopes with the method of the invention, which allow technologically simple disposal.

The solution to the problem of the invention is defined in the characterizing part of claim 1.

This is characterized in that hydrophobic, practically wet-strength and alkali-resistant crepe paper with a course of the fibers transverse to the crepe and with an elongation transverse to the longitudinal direction of the vessel or bottle between 10 to 20% and with a crepe height between 0.20 to 0.30 mm is used for a thickness between 0.20 to 0.35 mm and the crepe paper is glued on before pressing.

The further and preferred embodiment of the solution according to the invention is defined in the subclaims.

The achievement of the object of the invention is also characterized in that crepe paper with an elongation transversely to the longitudinal direction of the vessel or bottle is used between 12 to 14%.

The method of the invention is also characterized in that the crepe paper is used with a crepe height between 0.25 to 0.27 mm and a thickness between 0.26 to 0.30 mm.

The method of the invention is further characterized in that the crepe paper is used with a basis weight between 60 to 120 g / m² and in that it is used with a basis weight between 70 to 85 g / m².

This is also characterized in that crepe paper with a breaking load in the transverse direction for creping between 20 to 35 Nmm and / or with a breaking load in the longitudinal direction for creping between 25 to 35 Nmm is used.

This is also characterized in that crepe paper with a breaking load in the transverse direction for creping between 25 to 30 Nmm and / or with a breaking load in the longitudinal direction for creping between 28 to 30 Nmm is used.

This is further characterized in that crepe paper with a Gurley air permeability between 3.0 to 5.0 sec / 100 ml is used, and between 3.2 to 4.0 sec / 100 ml is used.

The method of the invention is also characterized in that the envelopes are printed on underprinting ink with printing ink or with heavy metal-free pearlescent pigment before being glued on.

This is further characterized in that the wrappings are glued to the bottle necks of beverage bottles such as beer bottles with a cylindrical shape, or with a conical shape, or with a continuous widening of the radius in the direction of the bottle bottom or the bulge, and in that the wrappings are spaced below a closure can be glued to this or to the lower edge thereof and in that the wrappings have a cut which projects beyond the closure at such a height that it is folded and glued practically tightly.

A technical effect of the aluminum-free envelopes of the invention is based on the combination of essential features by the firm pressure in the dry state on the different spatial shapes of the vessels of all types and bottles, while practically avoiding the formation of folds.

This technical effect is essentially caused by the elasticity of the wet-strength and alkali-resistant crepe paper, expressed as elongation in% to the vessels or bottles.

If this value is too low, wrinkling is not reliably ruled out, and this results in rejects in the filled bottles.

If this value is too high, there is no safe application of the coverings to the different surface of the tube and bottle necks.

Only the invented, selected critical area of crepe paper stretching allows the optimal suppleness to adapt to the different forms of the surface of the jars and bottles.

A longitudinal expansion of, for example, 14% means the expansion of the length from 100 to 114 mm.

Another technical effect of the aluminum-free wrapping of the containers and bottles is based on the height of the crepe of the wrapping. The crepe height is understood to mean the distance in mm between the upper and lower points, i.e. between the vaulted mountain and the vaulted valley.

If the critical range is exceeded, there is no sufficiently uniform printing of the envelopes in the printing press at the technical printing speed.

If the critical value is undershot, the longitudinal stretching or the transverse stretching of the crepe paper is not suitable for adaptation to the surface of the containers or bottles.

For example, there is a gap at the lower end that does not lead to sticking.

Another technical effect is formed by the weight per unit area. If this is too low, the crepe paper is not strong enough, if it is too large, the crepe paper lacks the elasticity to adapt to the surface of the containers or bottles.

Another technical effect is the air permeability of the crepe paper. If this is too low, the liquid, especially the aqueous, phase of the dispersion of the adhesive cannot diffuse out of the crepe paper in practice.

If the air permeability is too high, the crepe paper is not sufficiently strong in practice.

Air permeability is the Gurley measurement. Its definition is published in ISO standard 3687.

DIN 53104,Teil I
Bruchlast
DIN 53112,Teil 1.
Further terms of the casings for vessels and bottles of the invention mean the following definitions:
thickness
DIN 53105, part 1
Basis weight

Stretching the crepe paper of the invention means the increase in length in% of the length before stretching.

For gluing, known glue dispersions are used, the liquid and aqueous phases of which diffuse out of the crepe paper and evaporate.

The coverings are pressed on mechanically by means of brushes or sponges or rollers.

Aluminum-free envelopes according to the invention (No. 1 and 2) and those with unsuitable parameters (3 and 4) are described below:
Figure imgb0001

The comparison of the wrappings made of crepe paper according to the invention, Nos. 1 and 2, to unsuitable wrappings, No. 3 and 4, confirms that the technical suitability for achieving the object of the invention is surprisingly obtained from the combination of the parameters.

Only when this combination is invented as a selection of essential parameters can the object of the invention be reliably achieved.

The casings for all kinds of vessels and for bottles of the invention offer the technical advantage of substituting aluminum light metal foil with the same suitability for safe and permanent use for gluing and pressing onto the shaped surfaces of these objects.

The wrapping of the invention made of crepe paper prevents pollution of the environment, in particular of the watercourses, and thus also of the soils due to the rotting to the C source for the microbial decomposition to humus product.
