Definitions
- the functionality comprises two essential criteria, namely the tightness, the most important task of each closure and the snap effect, the characteristic of a snap closure. Every snap hinge closure achieves the required tightness today, but the snap action is very different with the different closures. This is understandable if you know how complex the interaction of the different Forces and how this is influenced by the geometry of the closure and its hinge. The force for producing the snap action is always also caused by the elasticity of the bending. It is possible to use a spring element or to design the geometry of the closure in such a way that the spring action takes place through elastic deformation of parts of the closure.
- the first variant which works with spring elements, has been known for many years and has a toggle lever as a spring element.
- the second variant works with so-called tensioning straps, which connect the cap and the lower part to one another and with at least one film hinge in between, via which the two parts are pivotally connected to one another.
- the object of the present invention is to show the designer means which allow him to create closures even when using tensioning straps, which enables almost any desired characteristic with regard to the snap action to be achieved.
- This configuration leads to the spring elements acting like a spring bar in the attachment area on the parts of the plastic closure and acting like a tensioning band in the central area.
- the snap hinge closure has a cylindrical shape, it is advantageous to decrease the thickness of the spring elements at the points farther away from the film hinge than at the closer sides from the attachment points towards the center in the longitudinal direction. This allows the different swivel distance compensate for which the individual phases of a belt move depending on the distance from the pivot axis.
- FIG. 1 shows a rear view of a one-piece plastic closure with a lower part 1 and a cap 2 connected to it in an articulated manner.
- the parting plane between cap 2 and lower part 1 is denoted by T.
- the cylindrical closure shown in the drawing has a film hinge 3, which connects the two closure parts and protrudes slightly from the two vertically superimposed jacket walls of both closure parts 1 and 2. This protrusion of the film hinge 3 is unavoidable if the closure is to be injected in the fully open position. Otherwise, the jacket walls of the lower part and lid would touch when fully open.
- the two lateral spring elements 4 can be seen to the left and right of the film hinge 3.
- the spring elements 4 are integrated in the jacket walls of the two closure parts, that is to say the spring elements are aligned with the outer surface of the jacket walls of both closure parts in the closed position of the closure and go to the attachment points 5 directly into the jacket walls of both closure parts.
- the spring elements 4 have two different areas with different functions. This can be seen most clearly in FIGS. 2 and 3. Directly from the corresponding jacket wall of the lower part 1 or the cap 2, the two regions 40 and 40 'of the spring element emerge with the same wall thickness. These areas essentially work as spring bars fixed on one side, which build up bending forces in particular when the lock is actuated and thus deform elastically.
- the magnitude of the bending forces are dependent on the one hand on the selected material, which here is preferably polypropylene and the geometric conditions, namely the width, length and thickness of the thick regions 40 and 40 ', of the spring elements 4.
- This thinned area 41 has the same function as the known tensioning straps, namely the transmission of tensile force from one closure part to the other.
- the elastic change in length that occurs is minimal.
- An additional element in order to vary the snap action is to have the transition from thin-walled area 41 to thick-walled area 40 or 40 'curved or inclined.
- the one drawn in the sealing jacket wall The course of the transition from thin to thick wall thickness is a simplification that only approximates the actual conditions.
- the curved course shown in dashed lines in the drawing corresponds more closely to the realities.
- the total wall thickness of the spring elements 4 can also be varied from the side lying higher on the film hinge 3 to the remote side. This changes the balance of power again.
- the designer is now able to make this complex adjustment only on the actual hinge. Corresponding corrections are thus predictable in their effect.
- Appropriate interchangeable inserts on the injection mold make it possible to produce a closure of the same shape with different closing characteristics. This makes it possible to meet customer requirements in a very specific way without having to produce a completely new injection mold every time.

Abstract
Description
Functionality, workability and aesthetics are the three main points for the commercial success of a plastic closure. The fourth point is the price, which is still significant, but there are hardly any major differences as long as it is one-piece closures that can be manufactured with injection molds without a slide.
The functionality comprises two essential criteria, namely the tightness, the most important task of each closure and the snap effect, the characteristic of a snap closure.
The first variant, which works with spring elements, has been known for many years and has a toggle lever as a spring element. The second variant works with so-called tensioning straps, which connect the cap and the lower part to one another and with at least one film hinge in between, via which the two parts are pivotally connected to one another.
In the present invention, in particular from the EP-A-0'291'457 of the applicant, from which a one-piece snap hinge closure made of plastic with a lower part and an articulated cap is known, each having a jacket wall, which in the closed The position of the closure is congruent vertically one above the other and is connected to one another via at least one film hinge lying in the parting plane and two integrated into the jacket walls of both parts, the snap effect spring elements which are arranged on both sides of the film hinge.
The object of the present invention is to show the designer means which allow him to create closures even when using tensioning straps, which enables almost any desired characteristic with regard to the snap action to be achieved.
Diese Aufgabe löst ein Kunststoffverschluss gemäss Oberbegriff mit den kennzeichnenden Merkmalen des Patentanspruches 1.This object is achieved by a plastic closure according to the preamble with the characterizing features of
This configuration leads to the spring elements acting like a spring bar in the attachment area on the parts of the plastic closure and acting like a tensioning band in the central area.
If the snap hinge closure has a cylindrical shape, it is advantageous to decrease the thickness of the spring elements at the points farther away from the film hinge than at the closer sides from the attachment points towards the center in the longitudinal direction.
This allows the different swivel distance compensate for which the individual phases of a belt move depending on the distance from the pivot axis.

Andernfalls würden die Mantelwände von Unterteil und Deckel in vollständig geöffnetem Zustand sich berühren.1 shows a rear view of a one-piece plastic closure with a
The two lateral spring elements 4 can be seen to the left and right of the
The spring elements 4 have two different areas with different functions. This can be seen most clearly in FIGS. 2 and 3. Directly from the corresponding jacket wall of the
The magnitude of the bending forces are dependent on the one hand on the selected material, which here is preferably polypropylene and the geometric conditions, namely the width, length and thickness of the
Between the thickness ranges of the spring elements 4 just described there remains an
An additional element in order to vary the snap action is to have the transition from thin-
However, the total wall thickness of the spring elements 4 can also be varied from the side lying higher on the
In contrast to the usual spring elements, which could hardly be varied and in which the snap action depended almost exclusively on the geometry of the two locking parts, namely the lid and the lower part, the designer is now able to make this complex adjustment only on the actual hinge. Corresponding corrections are thus predictable in their effect.
Appropriate interchangeable inserts on the injection mold make it possible to produce a closure of the same shape with different closing characteristics. This makes it possible to meet customer requirements in a very specific way without having to produce a completely new injection mold every time.
