Definitions

  • the present invention relates to a wall tie.
  • Wall ties are assembling and securing means serving to secure for instance an outer and an inner wall of a house wall being composed of such two walls to each other.
  • Wall ties (see Fig. 7) are usually Z-shaped means made of suitable thick threads which during for instance building of a mortar bonded brick wall are laid in position in the two wall portions, namely with one branch of the Z-shape placed in position gripping into one of the wall portions while the other branch of the Z-shape is placed in position in the other wall portion.
  • the wall ties are kept in place by the curing or cured mortar or concrete if concrete forms the material of the wall, etc. In vicinity of openings for doors or windows more wall ties are often put in place.
  • Another kind of wall tie comprises a straight, snake or angle shaped metal means made of thick thread arranged to grip only into one of the wall portions and to protrude out on one side of the wall, being the side unto which insulating mats are to be secured.
  • wall ties may be poured into the wall material when making the wall.
  • the insulating mats are stuck unto these wall ties and are secured to them by means of a disc shaped means which usually comprise a bushing or tube shaped portion being dowel barbed. These may also be stuck through the insulating mats after these are fitted with through bores including the boring of holes for the dowels in the wall portion behind the mats for the sticking of the dowel portions into the single bored holes.
  • the bushing or tube shaped dowel may also be internal barbed for fixation of the shaft shaped means against being withdrawn.
  • a wall tie which is designed as a round bar which has a thread at both ends.
  • the wall tie may be screwed into a bush or dowel which has been previously mounted in a wall element.
  • a specially designed securing means for another wall element may be screwed on.
  • a wall tie which inside is designed as a thread which has one or more screw shaped fins on the outside.
  • the wall tie may be designed with flattened parts around which the wall tie may be folded.
  • This known wall tie may be fixed in a pre-drilled hole in a wall part, as it is knocked into the hole by means of a handtool. Hereby the material in the wall part is crushed within an area corresponding to the outer diameter of the wall tie. The wall tie is thus poorly anchored in the wall.
  • a wall tie which at one end is designed with a point and a steep thread so that it may be knocked into a dowel. Behind the thread the wall tie is designed with an attack means for a tube shaped mounting tool, and behind the attack means with a thread or bar shaped wall tie course length which may be absorbed in the mounting tool.
  • this known wall tie When using this known wall tie a hole in the wall part must first be pre-drilled. Then a dowel is placed on the wall tie, and the wall tie with the mounted dowel is knocked in place in the wall part by means of a handtool.
  • This known wall tie is troublesome to use, especially when it must be mounted in a wall part which is covered with an insulating mat or is hidden behind a front wall. If the pre-drilled holes are not of equal depth the wall ties will be unevenly mounted. The wall tie has a poor pull-out resistance.
  • the purpose of the present invention is to devise a wall tie which does not have the disadvantages of the known wall ties. This is achieved by shaping a wall tie like the kind referred to in the preface to claim 1 as specified in the characterizing part of the claim.
  • the wall tie according to the invention can be easily folded at certain areas.
  • the wall tie according to the invention can be folded at certain areas and at the same time is kept well anchored in the wall into which it is to be built in.
  • Claim 4 specifies a tool for mounting a wall tie according to the invention.
  • the wall tie according to the invention it is achieved that the disadvantage of wall ties sticking out freely for instance during transportation of pre-manufactured wall elements is avoided, and it is made possible that also freely protruding inconvenient wall ties are avoided when building double walls where it is wanted first to build either the outer or the inner wall and later to build the other wall portion of the double wall.
  • the wall tie is first going to be mounted when thus a mat is put in place put against a carrying wall portion, and without consume of time for via an untransparent insulating mat first to locate a drilled hole for its receiving of a dowel element which, thereupon, had to be stuck into this drilled hole.
  • the tool as specified in claim 4 may be tube shaped and comprise, for instance, opposed slots at one end of the tool thus being provided to be inserted over the free extending length of the wall tie.
  • the attrition may engage with the surface of attack or with the means of attack provided on the wall tie.
  • the inserting tool produces a rattle-over indicating that the wall tie is fully screwed in place.
  • the tool may then be totally or partly withdrawn.
  • the stem portion or extending length of the wall tie may be shaped according to the invention as given in claim 2 and/or in claim 3. On the one hand, in this manner a moduled protruding of the wall tie from the wall to which the wall tie is fastened is made possible, namely by exhibiting equally shaped portions for bendings or for being breaked on the other hand.
  • the wall tie is improved when it is fastened by pouring-in, and a moduled length adaption is simultaneously made possible, in which case also a nut may be screwed in place on the wall tie strictly taken. Furthermore, the wall tie also through the narrower shaped portions between the threaded length portions provides ample space for the positioning of disc means able to keep insulatingmats in place.
  • the threaded portions of the wall tie are in practice most easily manufactured in one working operation by roling-on of the thread being a cheap manufacturing method.
  • Figs. 1, 2, 3 and 4 shown embodiments of a wall tie 1 according to the invention are at the end, which are shown at the left hand side of the drawing, provided with wall engaging means shaped as screw-threads 2.
  • Fig. 1 they are shown as two-threaded having two different diameters of the two threads.
  • 3 refers to surfaces of attack for a mounting tool.
  • the embodiment according to Fig. 2 is only provided with single-threaded screw-threads 2, but, beginning at the tool engaging means 3 for a mounting tool, in direction towards the right hand side of the drawing, the wall tie is provided with constriction zones or peripherally arranged weakening lines 4. At these zones or spots 4 the right hand stem portion 6 of the wall tie more easily, and possibly through more than one bending operation, is brought to break-through.
  • the zones or spots 4 may be arranged at modular distances as from the left hand portion of the wall tie.
  • FIG. 3 A further embodiment of the embodiment according to Fig. 2 is shown in Fig. 3 of the drawing.
  • the difference lays at the right hand stem portion 6.
  • the weakening spots 4 are here substituted by spacings between the screw-threaded portions 5. It may be advantageous to let the outer most right screw-thread portion be shaped longer than the others, while it is more difficult to break the wall tie through there than at the other places, while, on the other hand, the screw-on-length of a screwed-on means, such as a nut or other fastening means for any given third means, then is better adaptable to such a purpose so that more possibilities for the usefulness of the wall tie are present.
  • a screwed-on means such as a nut or other fastening means for any given third means
  • a holding means 7 for an insulating mat as viewed towards the side of it is shown in Fig.5 of the drawing showing a radial attrition 8 serving to grip over the constriction zones or weakening spots 4 of the stem portion 6 of the wall tie respectively to grip in between the screw-threaded portions 5 of the wall tie.
  • a tube shaped mounting tool 10 is shown in Fig. 6 of the drawing.
  • the left end of the tool is provided with opposed slots 11.
  • the right end 12 can be stuck into the chuck of a drilling machine.
  • the mounting tool 10 may from the right hand side be inserted over the stem portion 6 of the wall tie 1 according to the invention. After mounting of the wall tie the mounting tool 10 when suitably withdrawn towards the right, but still sitting on the stem portion of the wall tie, i.e. with this portion of the wall tie being loosely held by the mounting tool, is able to bend the thus outer portion of the stem 6 in relation to the wall tie portion protruding from the wall respectively to break the wall tie stem portion end off.
  • a wall tie according to the invention may thus be usefully applied together with practically all used wall materials which could be brickstones, mortel, concrete, light concrete, wood, etc., and the use of the wall tie according to the invention provides as well an economic advantage as an advantage at its handling, and also the risks of wounding persons due to protruding means are lowered to an as optimum regardable minimum.
  • the tool engaging means 3 of the wall tie may be tooth shaped.
  • a shaping as a wing or more or less as a tooth, possibly together with one or more screw-thread portions, respectively with groups of these, referred to through 5, may incorporate a shaping ping with adaptable opblique surface sides of these shapes enabling a manufacturing by means of a single roling-on operation, and while still preserving the usefulness of the wall tie according to the invention.
