Les 5-oxy-2-phénylazines de formule (I) où R désigne un alkyle, un alkényle ou un oxaalkyle contenant jusqu'à 12 atomes de C, A désigne un 1,4-phénylène, un trans-1,4-cyclohexylène ou un 1,3 cyclobutylène non substitué ou substitué par le fluor, Z' désigne -CH2CH2-, -CH2O-, OCH2-, -CO-O-, O-CO- ou une liaison simple, Q désigne -CH2- ou -CO-, X désigne N ou CH, E désigne -CH2CH2-, -C=C-ou une liaison simple, n désigne 0 ou 1, m désigne 0,1 ou, si n = 0, également 2, L1, L2 et L3 représentent chacun indépendamment H ou F, et où Y représente -CN, -NCS, F, Cl, -CF3, -CHF2, -OCHF2 ou -OCF3, conviennent en tant que constituants de milieux mésomorphes.
