Claims (6)

  1. A machine for lining or stripping the two opposite faces of the web (1a) of a beam (1), both of these operations requiring heat to be applied thereto to act on a binder interposed between the beam (1) and its linings, the machine being characterized in that it comprises, on a frame (20), a support (2) for supporting the beam (1) in a position where its web (1a) is vertical, said support being disposed between two horizontal jaws (3, 4) that are at least as long as the lining to be installed on the beam (1), said jaws being coupled to drive members (21) for moving them towards each other and away from each other in motion perpendicular to the web (1a) of the beam (1), and for maintaining them in position clamped against the web (1a) with a determined force, the jaws being provided with heating and cooling means (3a, 3b) for heating and cooling their facing surfaces (3a, 4a).
  2. A machine according to claim 1, characterized in that one of the jaws (3) is slidably mounted relative to the frame (20), the beam support (2) being mounted to be slidably movable relative to the frame (20) so as to be capable of being moved towards and away from the fixed jaw (3) during movement of the other jaw (4).
  3. A machine according to claim 1 or claim 2, characterized in that it includes a second support (8) for the beam (1) constituted by at least two arms (15) that are retractable between a first position in which they are beneath the first support (2) and a second position in which they are above said first support (2), each arm (15) including beam holding means (1) mounted to rotate relative to said arm (15) about an axis which is parallel to the axis of the beam.
  4. A machine according to any preceding claim, characterized in that the jaws (3, 4) are mounted to pivot relative to the frame (20) between a first position in which their active faces (3a, 4a) are vertical and facing each other, and a second position in which their active faces (3a, 4a) are horizontal and facing upward.
  5. A machine according to claims 2, 3, and 4, characterized in that the arms (15) constituting the second support (8) are fixed to the moving jaw (4), with the first and second positions of the arms (15) corresponding to the first and second positions of the moving jaw (4).
  6. A machine according to claim 4 or claim 5, characterized in that the moving jaw (4) is mounted on a carriage (14b) which is slidable relative to the frame (20) perpendicularly to the first support (2), the drive members being constituted by actuators (21) coupled between the frame (20) and said sliding carriage (14b), the jaw tilting drive means being constituted for the moving jaw (4) by a drive wheel (22) mounted to rotate on the carriage (14b) and co-operating with a stationary rack (23) fixed to the frame (20) whenever the carriage (14b) is displaced over the corresponding zone of the frame, and for the fixed jaw (3) by a resiliently extendable lever (24) coupled between the first and second jaws.
