Description

The invention relates to a luminaire for discharge lamps, in particular for a fluorescent lamp with the features according to the preamble of claim 1.

Luminaires of this type, which are designed for increased protection conditions, have such protective tubes that are overlapped at the ends by screw rings, which are screwed tightly and tightly to the sockets and which accommodate seals at their free ends and carry seals which bear against the protective tube OS 31 12 962, DE-OS 32 09 481 and AT-PS 382 226). Such luminaires have proven themselves, but their assembly is difficult: The fluorescent lamps have pairs of contact pins at the ends, which are inserted laterally into the voltage-carrying sockets, whereupon the lamp must be rotated by 90 ° so that the contact pins get into the contact-making position of the socket and further the lamp is prevented from sliding out of the socket by itself. A certain amount of force is required for this rotary movement and also for the lateral insertion, this presupposes that the lamp can also be properly gripped manually. However, the protective tube prevents this manual access. So far it has been used to make the protective tube about 20 to 25 mm shorter than the lamp itself, so that when mounting at least on one side of the lamp so much space is left between the protective tube and the socket, so with two fingers the lamp can be gripped, held and rotated by hand. So that the light is appropriately sealed with these short protective tubes, the screw ring must now be so long that it can grip the protective tube end reliably and tightly. As a result, however, the screw ring extends exactly over that area of the lamp in which the electrodes of the lamp are arranged and in which most of the heat is generated during operation. This axially long screw ring not only hinders the light, but also the heat radiation, for which reason metallic sleeves have been used here in known designs to promote heat dissipation, but this is a technically unsatisfactory solution.

The object underlying the invention is now such Avoid technically unsatisfactory solutions and still provide a protective tube that is as long as the lamp, so that short, sealing screw caps or screw rings can be used, so that the heat radiation in the electrode area of the lamp is not obstructed, whereby a measure must now be considered is so that the lamp located in the protective tube and now no longer accessible can be used in a conventional fluorescent lamp holder. To solve this problem, the invention proposes those measures which are the content and subject of the characterizing part of patent claim 1.

In this connection, the previously known fluorescent lamp according to US Pat. No. 3,673,401 should be mentioned. This fluorescent lamp has a protective tube with a cap arranged on the end face, which is penetrated by the contacting pins of the lamp, the edge of the cap, which engages over the lamp, being cut out in the manner of an annular groove into which the end edge of the protective tube is inserted. This creates two shoulder-like shoulders. The purpose of this measure, which is disclosed here, is to prevent fragments from flying around if the lamp explodes. The problem of how to insert a lamp in a protective tube into the socket according to the type described above is not pending here, since other sockets for fluorescent lamps are common in overseas countries, namely those in which the pins of the lamp are laterally inserted into the socket are inserted, passing over resilient slats and thereby reaching a contact-making detent position. The fluorescent lamps used in these sockets therefore do not need to be turned. Starting from the problem on which the present invention is based, this US Pat. No. 3,673,401 offers no direct suggestion, although it is not overlooked that a fluorescent lamp accommodated by a protective tube is connected in a rotationally fixed manner to this by means of this previously known construction. However, the previously disclosed, rotationally fixed connection between the lamp and the protective tube cannot be used to solve the problem according to the invention, since the step-like and circumferential shoulders mentioned practically prevent the arrangement of a sealing screw ring. In the The seal provided for the screw rings is intended to shield the actual holding space with the live parts from the outside. This is not possible with the previously known construction, because for the sufficient sealing mentioned, the same geometric conditions would have to be present over the entire path length over which the seal with the screw ring is displaced axially. In the construction according to the invention, this is achieved by the bush-like plug. By the non-rotatably inserted, bush-like plug, the outer surface of the protective tube is not impaired in the region near the socket, so that despite this plug there is a constant cylindrical shape in the longitudinal direction of the protective tube, with which the seal of the screw ring can enter into a perfect operative connection, and indeed over the entire range of their axial adjustment, which is necessary when mounting the lamp. Before the lamp can be inserted into the luminaire or its sockets, these screw rings must be pushed on at the front and moved so far towards the center of the lamp that the contact pins of the lamp can be inserted into the socket from the side. If the lamp is inserted into the socket in this way and rotated into the contacting position thanks to the measure according to the invention, only then can the screw rings equipped with the seals be pushed against the socket and screwed to it.

To illustrate the invention, an embodiment is explained in more detail with reference to the drawing. 1 shows a bush-like plug in view, cut in half; 2 shows the view of the bush-like plug according to FIG. 1 (viewing direction arrow A); Fig. 3 shows a longitudinal section through one end of a fluorescent lamp with protective tube, screw ring and socket.

The socket-like plug 1 is made in one piece from an electrically insulating, heat-resistant material. It has a cylindrical wall 2 and a bottom 3, in the plane of this bottom 3 a collar 4 protrudes laterally and on the outside of the cylindrical wall 2 there are several circumferential, lip-like sealing strips 5. In the central region of the bottom 3, an elongated hole cutout 6 is provided here, the axial length of which corresponds at least to the usual spacing of the contact pins 7 at the respective ends of a fluorescent lamp 8. In the transition area between the outside of the cylindrical wall 2 and the contact surface of the collar 4, a shoulder 9 is provided, which can be formed all around, or which can be formed by a plurality of bumps distributed along the circumference. On the inside of the cylindrical wall 2 there are a plurality of axially parallel ribs 10 with a leading edge 11 tapering outwards in a wedge shape. A number of free openings are also left in the bottom 3, which are arranged here in alignment with the ribs 10. Instead of a single elongated hole cutout 6, two individual cutouts can also be provided in the bottom 3 for receiving the contact pins 7. The diameter of the plug 1 is about 3 times its axial length.

So much for the structure of the socket-like plug. Fig. 3 shows in longitudinal section its use in a fluorescent lamp with a protective tube 13. At the end of a lamp bar 14, not shown here, sockets 15 are arranged with the rotary star usual for such lamps, which also have a thread 16. In one end of the protective tube 13, the plug 1 shown in FIGS. 1 and 2 is inserted. This plug 1 rests with the collar 4 on the front edge 19 of the protective tube 13, which thus forms a stop for the plug. The cylindrical section with the sealing strips 5 protrudes into the protective tube 13 and, due to its elastic behavior and its dimensions, ensures that the plug 1 is held in the protective tube 13 in a rotationally fixed manner. The paragraph 9 at the location described above serves as a centering between the two construction parts 1 and 13 discussed.

In the protective tube prepared in this way, which carries such a plug 1 only at one end, the lamp 8 is now inserted from one end and angularly positioned relative to the protective tube such that the contact pins 7 provided in pairs protrude through the elongated hole recess 6 of the plug 1 . Then the screw rings 17 with their seals 18 are pushed onto both ends of the protective tube 13 and offset so far towards the center of the protective tube 13 that their outer edges are somewhat offset from the front edge 19 of the protective tube 13.

Due to the described and explained arrangement of the plug 1 in the protective tube 13, the lamp 8 is now connected to this protective tube 13 in a rotationally fixed manner. The contact pins of the lamp 8 are now, as is known per se, retracted or inserted into the rotary star of the socket 15 and then the protective tube 13 is rotated, with which the lamp 8 is connected in a rotationally fixed manner until the lamp reaches its contacting position version 15 has reached. Then the screw rings 17 are screwed onto the threads 16 of the sockets 15. To replace a used lamp, the steps described above are done in reverse order.

The above-mentioned and explained ribs 10 with the leading edges 11 on the inside of the cylindrical wall 2 of the plug 1 on the one hand facilitate the insertion of the lamp 8 during assembly and also serve additionally as a centering means which holds the lamp 8 in the center of the protective tube 13.

Thanks to the invention, it is possible to make the protective tube 13 approximately as long as the lamp, so that only relatively short screw rings 17 can be used, so that the heat generated in the electrode region of the lamp can be radiated and dissipated almost unhindered. In order to enable circulation of the heated air within the space delimited by the sockets 15 and the protective tube 13, the openings 12 provided in the bottom 3 of the plug 1 at the edges serve to enable and allow this air movement.

The recess 6, which is designed as an elongated hole in the exemplary embodiment shown, forms a coupling member in connection with the contact pins 7 of the lamp for filming. This recess 6 can therefore have very different shapes, for example a cross shape, or openings can be provided in pairs, through which the contact pins 7 can be passed and which, due to their design, ensure that the lamp 8 is carried when the protective tube 13 is rotated.
