Abstract

Bei einem Verfahren zum Betrieb eines ICR-Spektrometers, dessen Meßzelle (1) mehrere symmetrisch zu einer zur Feldrichtung eines homogenen Magnetfeldes parallelen Achse (2) verlaufende, als HF-Elektroden ausgebildete Seitenwände (3, 4), sowie, ent­ lang der Achse gesehen, beiderseits der Zelle angeordnete, elektrisch isolierte Trapping-Elektroden (5, 6) aufweist, an welche Fangpotentiale mit der Polarität der zu untersuchenden Ionen angelegt werden können, um ein Austreten der Ionen aus der Meßzelle (1) in Achsrichtung weitgehend zu verhindern, werden zur Minimierung der achsparallelen Komponenten des in der Meßzelle (1) auf die Ionen wirkenden elektrischen HF-Feldes auf beiden Seiten der Meßzelle (1) an mindestens eine Trapping-­ Elektrode (5) zusätzliche elektrische HF-Signale angelegt. Dadurch wird im Inneren der Meßzelle (1) annähernd ein Verlauf der elektrischen HF-Feldlinien erreicht, wie er bei einer theo­ retischen, in axialer Richtung unendlich ausgedehnten Meßzelle (1) auftreten würde. Auf diese Weise werden axiale Beschleuni­ gungen der Ionen in der Meßzelle (1) durch das elektrische HF-­ Feld, die in der Regel zum Verlaust dieser Ionen aus dem Meß­ ensemble führen, vermieden.
