  • a security door comprising a major sheet metal tray which itself comprises a panel, side and end walls standing from the panel, marginal portions inturned from the walls and overlying the panel and spaced therefrom, and terminal re­entrant portions turned from the marginal portions toward the panel, elongate frame members disposed within the tray and alongside the respective walls, the members having slots receiving the respective terminal re-entrant portions and bevelled edges permitting the members to be applied laterally into the tray so as to interengage with the walls and terminal re-entrant portions thereof, and a minor sheet metal tray which itself comprises a panel and side and end walls standing from the panel, the minor tray being so dimensioned that the panel thereof closes an opening bounded by the terminal re-entrant portions of the major tray and the walls of the minor tray are received in the slots of the frame members alongside the terminal re-entrant portions of the major tray.

  • An elongate slot 15 is provided alongside one bevel 13 and in one adjacent side of the profile. On the side of the slot 15 remote from the bevel 13 there is a ledge 16 from which the said one adjacent side of the profile is relieved until a further elongate rib 17 is provided.

  • a seal 21 is provided between the panel 19 and the ledges 16 to prevent the egress of a high pressure foam 22 injected into the space between the panels 2 and 19 and bounded by the members 10 and 11. Once the foam has set the members 10 and 11 are positively in engagement with the walls 3 and 4 of the tray 1.
  • the rib 17 also locks into the set foam. In most cases this provides the door with sufficient rigidity.
  • the ends of the members 10 and 11 may be secured to each other prior to the fitting of the tray 18 with or without the later injection of a settable foam.
  • spacer blocks may be applied to the corners of the tray 1 prior to the application of the members 10 and 11.
  • the ribs 12 are provided on the members 10 and 11 in order to provide recesses into which the sheet steel of the wall 3 can be distended when screwing a lock faceplate to the member 1.
  • the recess is also used to receive one leg of each hinge, one rib 12 being cut away as required and the leg of the hinge being inserted through a slot cut in the steel and between the member 10 and the wall 3 of the tray 1.
  • hollow members 10 and 11 may each be replaced by a length of timber of rectangular cross-­section of suitable dimensions.
  • the cross-section is provided at two adjacent corners with bevels equivalent to the bevels 13 and 14 and for the same purpose and a slot is routed-in equivalent to the slot 15.
  • the strength of the door is derived mainly from the "wrap-around" feature of the side walls 3 and end walls 4, the marginal portions 5 and 6, and the terminal re-entrant portions 7 and 8 of tray 1 with respect to the frame members.
