The holding tabs (9) are bent towards the rear of the reflector (2) about a bending line running transversely to their longitudinal extension and, with the exception of their free end section (11) which points counter to the light exit direction and is spaced with respect to the outer edge of the reflector flange towards the optical axis, said tabs are doubled by folding with the flange (6) of the reflector (2). <IMAGE>

Description

The invention relates to a reflector for a vehicle headlight with the features:
the bowl-shaped reflector made of sheet metal has a circumferential, radially outwardly projecting flange on its outer edge,
- The flange corresponds approximately in size and shape to the lens covering the bowl-shaped reflector towards the front,
- The lens is placed on the flange of the reflector and firmly connected to it,
- The reflector has at least two retaining tabs on its back, which are firmly connected to the flange and whose free end section, which points towards the light exit direction and serves to support the attachment of the reflector, is spaced from the outer edge of the reflector flange and from the optical axis.

Such a reflector of a vehicle headlight is known from DE-OS 16 55 732. The optical unit consisting of reflector and lens is inserted in a bowl-shaped housing and lies with its peripheral edge on the outer edge region of the bowl-shaped housing. Lugs formed on the inside of the housing, which are engaged behind by the free end sections of the holding tabs, serve as fastening means for the free end sections of the holding tabs. Since the lugs of the housing and the free end portions of the retaining tabs lie in the projection surface of the lens or the flange of the reflector, they are of the The front of the headlamp cannot be seen and therefore does not enlarge the dimensions of the housing, which tapers conically from the rear of the headlamp. In such an embodiment, however, the retaining tabs have to be produced with a separate tool and, furthermore, their assembly is also complicated and time-consuming, since they can get caught in one another and have to be positioned exactly on the reflector flange. If the latter is not carried out properly, it is possible that the optical unit may be difficult or impossible to install.

From DE-OS 24 17 029 a reflector of a vehicle headlight is known, the retaining tab attached to the back of the reflector flange is coupled to an adjusting element.

Furthermore, a reflector for a vehicle headlight is known from DE-PS 34 25 646. Here, the outer circumferential edge region of the reflector is flanged towards its rear, and the flanged edge region has cut-out holding tabs. In this embodiment, however, the fastening means engaging on the retaining tabs lie outside the projection surface of the lens or the reflector flange and can thus be seen from the front of the headlight.

The object of the invention is to design the reflector described in the preamble of claim 1 in such a way that it and the retaining tabs used to fasten the optical unit are made in one piece, and it is as in DE-OS 16 55 732 and DE -OS 24 17 029 known headlights should be possible to place the attachment points of the retaining tabs in the vicinity of a plane passing through the center of gravity of the optical unit, which often has a correspondingly small distance from the flange of the reflector because of the relatively heavy lens. This object is achieved according to the invention in that
- The holding tabs are made in one piece by a corresponding free cut with the flange of the reflector,
the retaining tabs are bent towards the rear of the reflector about a bending line running transversely to their longitudinal extent,
- The retaining tabs, with the exception of the end section, are doubled by folding with the flange of the reflector.

With such an advantageous solution, it is also possible that the optical unit consisting of lens and reflector can be inserted into a shell-shaped housing, the outer circumferential edge of which rests on the edge region of the flange or the lens.

Furthermore, it is advantageous if the legs of the doubles are insolubly connected to one another; especially if this inseparable connection is made by clinching according to DIN 8593. In such a solution, the existing between the flange of the reflector and the retaining tab can not spring open, so that the connection to the elements supporting the reflector is rigid and stable. In addition, the non-detachable connection produced by clinching can also be produced when the reflector is shaped and punched out. In this context, it is advantageous if galvanized steel sheet is used to produce the reflector, since the cut surfaces which are created during the clinching are protected against corrosion by the zinc coating.

It is also advantageous if a threaded hole, which is made in the free end section of the retaining tabs and which consists of a thread formed by deformation of the edge of the threaded hole, the ends of which each have a corresponding cutting surface, is used for the supporting attachment of the reflector. Such one A threaded hole can be made when the reflector is formed and punched out.

In a particularly advantageous development of the invention, the edge of the reflector flange in the area of the holding tabs is offset radially inward by approximately the amount of the thickness of the holding tabs. Such a solution is particularly advantageous if the flange rests with its outer edge on the inside of a housing, because then, due to the double between the housing and the flange, there is only a very small or no gap through which dirt and spray water would otherwise get into the Inside of the headlamp could penetrate.

The invention is shown in the drawing, namely shows
  • FIG. 1 shows a horizontal longitudinal section along the optical axis of an auxiliary headlight,
  • FIG. 2 shows a partial view X of the holding flap made in one piece with the reflector flange on a larger scale,
  • Figure 3 is a view from the direction Y and
  • Figure 4 is a view from the direction Z.

The additional headlight essentially consists of a shell-shaped housing (1) made of plastic and an optical unit which is inserted into the housing and consists of a shell-shaped reflector (2) and the lens (3). The reflector (1) is made of sheet metal and has an opening (4) at the apex for receiving the incandescent lamp (5). The reflector has a rectangular light outlet opening which merges into a flange (6) projecting radially outwards. The flange (6) has one all around Edge area (7) flanged towards the light exit direction, on the inside of which the edge area (8) of the lens (3), which springs back toward the reflector, bears and is glued to it. The outside of the edge area (7) of the reflector (1) lies against the inside of the peripheral edge area of the housing (1). The end face of the edge area (8) of the lens (3) projects radially outwards from the flange (6) and bears against the end face of the peripheral edge area of the housing (1).

Arranged on the broad sides of the rectangular reflector (2) is a holding tab (9) made in one piece by a corresponding free cut with the flange of the reflector. The retaining tabs (9) are bent towards the rear of the reflector (2) around a bending line (10) running transversely to their longitudinal extent, which runs approximately in the plane of the end face of the peripheral reflector edge, and are folded by folding with the flange (6) of the reflector (2) except for the end section (11) of the retaining tab (9), which points on the back of the flange (6) against the light exit direction. The end section (11) of the retaining tabs (9) has a threaded hole (12) which consists of a thread formed by deformation of the edge of the threaded hole (12), the ends of which each have a corresponding cutting surface (13). A screw (16), which passes through the opening (14) of the housing (1), engages in the threaded hole (12) of the retaining tabs (9) and rests with its head on the base of a trough introduced into the outside of the housing. The duplications consisting of the retaining tabs (9) and the flange (6) are secured against springing open by the two legs of the duplications being connected to one another in a non-detachable manner. The permanent connection is made by clinching according to DIN 8593. The non-detachable connections (15) produced by clinching are located below the end face of the edge region (8) of the lens (3). This is possible because the push-through is carried out from the front of the reflector (2) and therefore there are no bumps on the front of the flange (6) of the reflector (2). In such a position of the non-detachable connection points (15), they are not visible from the outside, and are sealed against possible dirt and splash water because of the gluing of the lens to the reflector.

In Figure 3 it can be seen that the outer edge (7) of the flange (6) of the reflector (2) in the region of the retaining tabs (6) is offset radially inward by approximately the amount of the thickness of the retaining tabs (9).
