Abstract

A method is specified for the continuous marking of articles (1) which are moved in their longitudinal direction, by means of which method annular features which are limited in the axial direction are applied by means of paint jets (2) on to the surface of the article (1). The paint jets (2) emerge under pressure from two nozzles (6, 7), which are arranged parallel to one another and oscillate continuously about an oscillating axis (5). If it is intended to use only one nozzle (6), the other (7) is closed by means of a 2/3 way valve (20). At the same time, a bypass (18) is opened, via which the paint quantity intended for the switched-off nozzle (7) is led away. The paint jet (2) of the nozzle (6) which continues to be used then remains unchanged.

Description

A- 14 65 660).The invention relates to a method for the continuous marking of material moving in its longitudinal direction, by means of which annular features limited in the axial direction are applied to the surface of the material by means of color jets, which are under pressure from at least two parallel nozzles which continuously oscillate about an oscillation axis emerge and hit the surface at a right angle to the direction of movement of the material and in which the nozzles are supplied with paint by a common pump via a supply line (DE-A-14 65 660).

"Langgestrecktes Gut" im Sinne der Erfindung sind beispielsweise elektrische Leitungen, wie beispielsweise Steuerleitungen, oder auch isolierte Adern von Nachrichtenkabeln, auf die sich die folgenden Ausführungen - stellvertretend für alle anderen Anwendungsfälle - beziehen.“Elongated goods” in the sense of the invention are, for example, electrical lines, such as control lines, or also insulated wires of communication cables, to which the following statements - representative of all other applications - relate.

Color coding of wires is required for communication cables so that individual wires can be easily identified for installation. For example, in the case of four wires to be twisted into a four, rings are sprayed onto their insulation on three of these wires, each wire being labeled differently. The fourth wire remains free. The three wires can be marked in such a way that the first wire is single rings, the second wire is double rings in short distance and the third wire double rings with a greater distance or that the wires are provided with features of different colors. The individual features are applied at equal intervals from one another.

In the aforementioned DE-A-14 65 660 a method is described in which a device known under the trade name "Colomat" is used. With this device, the features are sprayed onto the conductors of the conductors immediately after the insulating material has been applied to the conductors. The color jets hit a relatively hot insulation so that the dye dries quickly and bonds firmly to the insulating material. In this known method, two nozzles arranged parallel to one another are used, which produce two things on the insulation of a wire, which are at a fixed distance from one another. If this type of marking of the wire is to be changed to only one ring, then either a new nozzle system with only one nozzle must be used or the ink supply to one of the two nozzles must be interrupted. Changing the nozzle system is time-consuming, production must be stopped and a second nozzle system entails higher costs. If the ink supply to one nozzle is interrupted in a nozzle system with two parallel nozzles, problems also arise since the entire amount of paint conveyed by the common pump is now supplied to the one nozzle which is still open. The wavelength of the ink jet is increased due to the then increased exit velocity of the ink jet. This leads to an inadmissible change in the characteristics sprayed onto the wire.

The invention has for its object a method for applying features to a wire using at least two parallel nozzles having nozzle system to specify, in which it is ensured in a simple manner that the quality of the sprayed features is not changed even if one of the nozzles is switched off from the paint supply.

This object is achieved in a method of the type described in accordance with the invention in that when one of the nozzles is switched off from the supply line, a bypass connected to the same is simultaneously opened, via which the quantity of paint intended for the switched-off nozzle is discharged.

When using this method, the amount of paint that is fed to the individual nozzles remains constant. This applies in particular when the ink supply to one of the nozzles is interrupted, since the amount of ink intended for this nozzle is discharged via the bypass. The exit velocity of the color jets from the nozzles remains unchanged regardless of how many nozzles are supplied with paint, without having to change the power of the pump, for example. Accordingly, the quality of the ring-shaped features sprayed onto the wire is retained, regardless of whether only one feature or two or more features are sprayed on simultaneously.

Advantageous embodiments of the invention emerge from the subclaims.

The method according to the invention is explained with reference to the drawings as an embodiment.

The device shown in the drawings works with nozzle systems in which two nozzles are arranged parallel to one another. However, nozzle systems with more than two parallel nozzles could also be used, which are supplied with paint by a common pump via a feed line.

In the device according to FIG. 1, two nozzle systems A and B are arranged on opposite sides of a wire 1 passing through in the direction of arrow P so that they are shifted in the axial direction relative to one another in such a way that the ink jets 2 of the nozzle system A on one side of the wire 1 applied features are supplemented by the color jets 3 of the nozzle system B to full rings 4. The nozzle systems A and B oscillate at an adjustable frequency around the oscillation axes 5, so that the color jets 2 and 3 emerging from the nozzles 6 and 7 of the nozzle system A or the nozzles 8 and 9 of the nozzle system B oscillate with a predetermined amplitude and wavelength.

The nozzle bodies 10 and 11 carrying the nozzles 6 and 7 or 8 and 9 are connected via feed lines 12 and 13 to a reservoir for paint, from which they are supplied with paint by means of a pump. The storage container and pump are not shown for the sake of simplicity. The feed lines 12 and 13 can be flexible. The color shells 14 and 15 arranged on the side of the wire 1 opposite the nozzle bodies 10 and 11 serve to collect the continuously oscillating color jets 2 and 3 and to return the excess amount of paint into the color reservoir.

The nozzle system B can be moved parallel to the wire 1 according to the double arrow 16, around the half rings generated by the color jets 2 and 3 of the nozzles A and B. to be able to cover. A flash of light strobe 17 serves to control the overlap of the half rings to form the closed rings 4 during manufacture, in which the wire 1 is pulled off at a very high speed in the direction of the arrow P. During the oscillation around the oscillation axes 5, the nozzles 6 to 9 execute an oscillating movement, the limits of which are shown in broken lines in FIG. 2 for the nozzle 6 of the nozzle system A. The color jet 2 emerging from the nozzle 6 executes sinusoidal paths with uniform, continuous vibration, as are also shown in FIG. 2. In this way, a half ring is produced, for example, by the nozzle system A on one side of the wire 1, which is then supplemented by the ink jet 3 of the nozzle system B to form the full ring 4.

With the described method, two features can be sprayed onto the wire 1 as rings 4 at the same time. If, with the same device, without changing the paint supply and without changing the nozzle systems A and B, only one feature is to be sprayed on, the procedure is as follows:

In FIG. 3, a section from FIG. 1 is shown schematically in a further enlarged illustration, in which only the nozzle system A is taken into account for the sake of simplicity. The color shell 14 is also drawn here as if the vibration system 10 extends into the same. The paint is fed to the nozzle system A via the feed line 12 and divided into the two nozzles 6 and 7 in the same. Of the two nozzles 6 and 7 which are initially in use, the nozzle 7, for example, is to be switched off from the ink supply. For this purpose, a bypass 18 is connected to the feed line 12, which is opened at the moment when the nozzle 7 is closed. In the exemplary embodiment shown, the bypass 18 guides the color in the same amount as it was intended for the nozzle 7 directly to the ink tray 14. However, the bypass 18 could, for example, also lead to the ink reservoir and return the amount of ink derived directly to the same.

The bypass 18 must be dimensioned or the cross section adjusted before the entire device is started up. This cross section is to be chosen so that the same amount of paint that would be given to the nozzle 7 if it were open is discharged. This ensures that the amount of paint that is fed further to the nozzle 6 remains the same, so that the exit velocity of the ink jet 2 from the nozzle 6 is not changed. The amplitude and the wavelength of the color beam 2 of the nozzle 6 are thus retained, so that the only annular feature which is now sprayed onto the wire 1 can be produced as a closed, sharply contoured ring 4. To set the bypass 18, a throttle valve 19 can be arranged in the same, by means of which the cross section or the amount of paint to be discharged via the bypass 18 can be set in a particularly simple manner.

If the nozzle 7 is to be separated from the ink supply, this can basically be done by means of a valve which is then closed. At the same time, the bypass 18 could be opened via a further valve. The two valves must then be coordinated so that they are closed or opened at the same time.

In a preferred embodiment, a 3/2-way valve 20 is used for closing the nozzle 7 and opening the bypass 18, in which the opening for the nozzle 7 and the one for the bypass 18 are closed simultaneously by moving the valve body or a corresponding control member be opened. In Fig. 3 the valve 20 is shown as a solenoid valve which has an armature 21 which in Direction of the double arrow 22 is movable and closes the opening for the bypass 18 in one end position, while the opening for the nozzle 7 is closed in the other end position. At the same time, the other openings are released. The armature 21 can be excited by the coil 23 and brought into the respective position. It is only indicated schematically in FIG. 3. Guide elements for the anchor 21 have been omitted for the sake of simplicity.

The embodiment of the valve 20 as a solenoid valve is the simplest. However, the directional control valve could also be designed as a pneumatic or hydraulic 3/2-way valve 20, which in each case has three ways, namely route I for supplying the paint, route II for removing the paint through the nozzle 7 and the route III for removing the paint through the bypass 18. The "2" stands for example for the two positions of the armature 21 of the solenoid valve shown.

If the nozzle 7 is switched off from the ink supply and this state is maintained over a long period of time, the ink contained in the nozzle 7 and its feed line must be removed as far as possible so that the nozzle 7 does not become blocked. The same applies in principle to the bypass 18 if the bypass 18 is separated again from the ink supply or is not required for the removal of the ink. Both the nozzle 7 and its feed line as well as the bypass 18 are therefore expediently cleaned after the ink supply has been switched off, so that they are available for further use. The nozzle system can then be switched back to both nozzles 6 and 7 to produce two rings 4 without interruption.

Claims (6)

  1. Process for the continuous marking of an elongated product (1) moved in its longitudinal direction, by which annular marks, limited in the axial direction, can be applied to the surface of the product (1) by means of colour jets (2) which emerge under pressure from at least two nozzles (6, 7; 8, 9), arranged parallel to each other and oscillating continuously about an oscillating axis (5), and meet the surface of the product (1) at right angles to the direction of movement thereof, and in which the nozzles (6, 7; 8, 9) are supplied with colour from a common pump (A, B) via a feed line (12, 13), characterised in that, if one of the nozzles (6, 7; 8, 9) is switched off from the feed line (12, 13), at the same time a bypass (18) connected to the same is opened, via which bypass the amount of colour intended for the switched-off nozzle (6, 7; 8, 9) is led away.
  2. Process according to Claim 1, characterised in that the amount of colour flowing via the bypass (18) is adjustable.
  3. Process according to Claim 1 or 2, characterised in that a 3/2-way valve (20) is used for the switching off of the nozzle (6, 7; 8, 9) and the simultaneous opening of the bypass (18).
  4. Process according to Claim 3, characterised in that a solenoid valve is used as the valve (20).
  5. Process according to Claim 3, characterised in that a pneumatically operated valve is used as the valve (20).
  6. Process according to one of Claims 1 to 5, characterised in that the nozzle (6, 7; 8, 9) and the bypass (18) are cleaned in the respectively switched-off state.
