Abstract

A tool serves to grip and cut a loop of ribbon (2) placed around an object (17), the ends (3A, 3B) of which are passed through a lock (7) which joins them. One end (3B) of the loop is first connected to a ribbon supply. The tool constitutes a holder (5) for the lock (7), an opening (1) in the lock holder for the passage of the ends (3A, 3B) of the ribbon, a gripping device for the end of the ribbon connected to the ribbon supply, a holder for the free end of the ribbon, and a cutting device (13). The construction of the tool is simplified and the ribbon can be processed without waste, because the holding device comprises a clip (11) which presses one side of the free end (3A) of the ribbon against the other end (3B) of the ribbon supported by an abutment (4) and the cutting device (13) is mounted on the side of the clip (11) opposite the lock holder (5).

Description

The invention relates to a tool for tensioning and cutting a band loop around an object, the ends of which are passed through a lock provided for their connection and one of which is connected to a band supply, the tool being a holder for the lock, an opening in the lock holder for the passage of the band ends, a tensioning device for the band end connected to the band supply, a cutting device and a holding device for the free band end, which is formed by a clamp that presses the free band end on one side against the other, supported by an abutment of the tool .

In a known tool of this type (DE-B-1279801), the cutting device is arranged directly behind the lock holder so that the tape ends protruding from the lock can be cut as short as possible. This has the disadvantage that not only the tape end that is to be tensioned and connected to the tape supply has to be cut off, but also the free tape end, so that waste pieces arise. However, in some applications (e.g. in aircraft construction), the Waste generation prohibited because it could cause interference elsewhere.

In such cases, cable ties are therefore used whose band is integrally connected to the head (US-A-3154114), and the protruding end of the band is not cut off, although this is also undesirable. Insofar as a cutting device for cutting off the protruding tape end is provided in tools for processing such one-piece cable tapes (US-A-3154114), this cutting device is also arranged directly behind the head holder in order to ensure that the cut tape end protrudes slightly above the head. Basically, one-piece cable tapes have the disadvantage that they are more expensive because of the higher use of material than those which are composed of a section of an endless tape and separate heads.

The invention has for its object to provide a tool of the type mentioned that the processing of cable tapes using an endless tape allows the generation of waste.

The solution according to the invention consists in that the clamp is arranged directly behind the lock or the lock holder and the cutting device on the side of the clamp remote from the lock holder.

This solution allows the free end of the tape to end immediately behind the clamp and in front of the cutting device, so that none of it has to be cut off and consequently there is no waste.

Cutting a tape end only makes sense if the rest on the head is very short. Otherwise, the sharp cutting edge could cause injury cause. It was not to be expected that the arrangement according to the invention could cut short enough. Conventional holding devices for holding the free end of the band have a considerable length in the direction of the stretching of the band. This is because they are dimensioned for a full absorption of the maximum tension force. The invention has recognized that this is not necessary due to a peculiar effect. If namely - as presupposed by the invention - the free band end is pressed by the holding device against the band end connected to the band supply to be tensioned, the maximum tension to be held by the clamp occurs at the free band end only when the band to be tensioned Band end is pulled in the tensioning direction, and if consequently a frictional force is exerted on the free end of the band by the end of the band to be tensioned, which reduces the holding force required to hold the free end of the band.

On the basis of this inventive finding, it is based on the fact that a particularly small clamping device which is short in the direction of the tape can be used, and only a small distance between the lock and the cutting device is required to accommodate it. Therefore, the cutting device can be arranged on the side of the holding device facing away from the lock, and the cutting action can be limited to the end of the tape connected to the tape supply. This prevents waste from forming at the free end of the belt.

The clip is expediently designed in the form of a thin sheet in order to minimize the inevitable protrusion of the tape over the lock. For the same reason, the blade of the cutting device is arranged at a short distance behind the clamp or even immediately after it in a common guide.

So that the free end of the tape is not inserted too far and not too short into the tool, a stop is expediently provided behind the clamp. The cutter blade can serve as this stop.

In order to ensure that the belt is always pushed against the stop with sufficient, limited force, a slip clutch can be provided in the drive which is provided for folding the belt around the object to be bound, especially in the case of an automatically operated tool be.

In order to achieve a compact design and, at the same time, rapid automatic control of the tool, pneumatic control of the tool is expedient. A particularly fast actuation of the clamp can be achieved in that an existing pneumatic switching cylinder for controlling the clamp is pressurized with compressed air during the tape push, whereby it is held in place by means of a mechanical lock until the clamping position of the tape end is reached, in order to then trigger and to be suddenly moved with full force into the clamping position.

The invention is explained in more detail below with reference to the drawings. Figures 1 to 3 show a schematic representation of a part of the tool in three different states.

The principle of the strap and lock assembly, the tool assembly and the binding method follows the state of the art according to DE / PS 12 79 801. The cable strap forms a loop 2, the ends 3A and 3B of which are secured in the lock 7 by means of a pin 9.

The tool contains a holder for a band supply (not shown) and a guide channel 1 for the band 3, which is aligned in the tool end in a holder 5 for the lock 7 with the band opening provided in the lock opens so that the band end 3A advanced through the guide channel 1 passes through the lock, the object to be bound - in the example shown a cable harness 17 - is folded over and pushed back into the guide channel 1 of the tool through the lock opening.

The guide channel 1 forms an abutment 4 near its opening-side end on its upper side in the drawing, which is assigned to the end 3B connected to the band supply, on the opposite side a leaf-shaped clamp 11 is provided immediately behind the lock holder 5. which, together with the blade 13 of the cutting device, can be displaced transversely to the guide channel 1 in the direction of the arrow 19 in a guide which is formed on the one hand by the plate 6 of the lock holder and on the other hand by a guide edge 8 of the tool body. It is connected to an operation, not shown, which can be formed by a pneumatic switching cylinder when the tool is executed automatically. In the idle state, the clamp 11 is withdrawn from the guide channel 1 against the direction of the arrow 19. In the active position, it can be advanced in the direction of arrow 19 and pressed against the free end of the band 3A (FIGS. 2 and 3).

In the rest position, the blade 13 of the cutting device projects into the guide channel 1 according to FIG. 1, but leaves sufficient space for the band end 3B which is connected to the band supply and is to be tensioned. By means of a drive, not shown, it can be moved in the direction of arrow 23 against the abutment 4 in order to cut off the band end 3B to be tensioned (FIG. 3).

Das Werkzeug wirft in folgender Weise benutzt. The tool throws used in the following way.

The free end 3A of the band 3 is guided according to arrow 15 through the guide 1 and through the opening of the lock 7 (FIG. 1), around a cable bundle 17 located in front of the tool laid around and inserted again through the lock 7 into the guide 1 until it abuts the blade 13 forming a stop. This can be done by hand with manually operated tools. However, the invention is also applicable to automatic tools in which the band 3 is automatically placed around the cable bundle 17. As soon as the free end 3A abuts the blade 13, the clamp 11 is moved in the direction of the arrow 19 and the free end 3A of the band 3 is pressed against the adjacent end 3B, which is supported against the abutment 4 against the clamping force. The tape end 3B is then pulled back in the direction of the arrow 21 in order to thereby tension the loop 2 around the cable bundle 17. This is possible because the abutting surfaces of the belt are smooth and because the abutment 4 is also designed to be low-friction, for example as a flat metal surface. On the other hand, the end face of the clamp 11 can (but need not) be designed to be friction-intensive. After reaching a predetermined voltage, the pin 9 is pressed into the lock 7. By deep drawing, the pin forms a cup-shaped material area into the clamped and tensioned band ends, which extends into the upper bore, and the blade 13 is pressed against the band end 3B according to arrow 23 and the band 3 is thus cut off without waste (FIG. 3).

The introduction of the band 3, the laying around the cable bundle 17, and the movements of the clamp 11, the knife 13 and the retraction of the band 3 are expediently controlled pneumatically. In this case, a reduction in the working time can be achieved in that the pneumatic switching cylinder of the clamp 11 is pressurized with compressed air already during the tape feed and is temporarily held in place by means of a mechanical lock until the tape end 3A has reached the clamping position. In this way, the switching cylinder can fill with compressed air during the tape feed and its switching speed is increased after the mechanical lock is released.

In a simplified design of the tool, the clamp 11 and the blade 13 can be designed as a unitary clamping and cutting element which, in addition to the rest position, has two working positions, the first of which is a clamping position and the second a cutting position. In the clamping position, the cutting edge of the blade is pressed against or into the free end of the band at the point at which the clamp 11 acts in the figures, without cutting through it. When moving into the cutting position, a very short piece of the free end of the band and the end of the band connected to the supply roll are cut off. In this case, a fixed edge or the like arranged behind the blade is provided as a stop for the free band end. If this edge is arranged very close to the clamping and cutting element, the resulting waste can be kept so low that it is harmless or can easily be collected in the tool.
