Abstract
Description
The invention relates to a dampening solution or a dampening solution for use in offset printing.
In offset printing, aluminum plates that have a hydrophilic surface (non-printing areas) and have an oleophilic layer on the image areas (printing areas) are clamped onto a printing cylinder, which is often provided with a nickel layer. The hydrophilic and oleophilic areas lie in one plane (planographic printing). In addition to the ink (oil-based), a so-called fountain solution is required for printing, which keeps the non-image areas hydrophilic, so that the ink is only accepted by the oleophilic image areas and transferred to the paper via the rubber blanket. To improve the printing result, substances are usually added to the fountain solution, e.g. optimize the viscosity, pH value and compatibility with the printing ink and counteract disturbances that can be caused by the regionally different water, paper or microorganisms.
The pH range which is most favorable for printing is between 4.7 and 5.3 and is normally achieved by buffer substances such as e.g. B. citric acid / citrate maintained. From US-A 4 548 645 it is also known, see Sal ze from polycarboxylic acids and organic bases, such as amines. However, the dampening solutions used so far show signs of corrosion on the printing presses, particularly the plate and blanket cylinders with nickel plating are affected, which can result in considerable downtimes and repair costs.
There has therefore been no shortage of attempts to reduce or eliminate corrosion on the machine parts, in particular the nickel-coated cylinders of the printing presses.
A 35 36 485 describes a dampening solution which contains copper ions in addition to the usual constituents water, viscosity-increasing substances, buffers based on citric acid, surfactants and fungicides to reduce the signs of corrosion. This dampening solution can reduce the nickel removal as long as copper ions are present.
With these dampening solutions, the copper deposits as an electrochemically noble metal on the less common, commonly used aluminum carrier, which can lead to toning during printing; furthermore, the copper ions, which are only present in small quantities, are removed from the fountain solution and are therefore lost to the corrosion protection.
A 0 108 883 describes a method for avoiding corrosion on printing press cylinders, wherein 1 H-benzotriazole is added to the dampening solution as a corrosion inhibitor. Here, the pH should be kept at 5.5 and higher.
The task was to provide a dampening solution with which one can work in the pH range from 4.7 to 5.3, which guarantees corrosion inhibition, particularly in the long term, and which does not reduce the printing quality of the aluminum printing plates.
The above object is achieved by a dampening solution for offset printing, containing viscosity-regulating hydrophilizing agents, buffer substances and optionally solubilizers, wetting agents, defoamers and biocides, the characteristic feature of which is that it is a combination of at least one triazole and at least one non-hydroxylated dicarboxylic acid and optionally contains their salts.
Suitable triazoles are e.g. B. aromatically substituted triazoles and those containing electron donors. 1 H-Benzotriazole and tolyltriazole are preferred. Tolyltriazole is particularly preferred. Combinable dicarboxylic acids and their salts in the sense of the invention can be aliphatic or aromatic.
Besonders geeignet sind Dicarbonsäuren mit 4 bis 10 Kohlenstoffatomen. Bevorzugt sind z. B. Glutarsäure, Bernsteinsäure, Adipinsäure, Benzol-1,2-dicarbonsäure. Nicht geeignet sind hydroxylierte Dicarbonsäuren. Gut eignen sich auch Aminodicarbonsäuren, z. B. Aminobernsteinsäure, und verzweigte Dicarbonsäuren, z. B. Methyladipinsäure.Dicarboxylic acids with 4 to 10 carbon atoms are particularly suitable. Z are preferred. B. glutaric acid, Succinic acid, adipic acid, benzene-1,2-dicarboxylic acid. Hydroxylated dicarboxylic acids are not suitable. Aminodicarboxylic acids, e.g. B. aminosuccinic acid, and branched dicarboxylic acids, e.g. B. methyl adipic acid.
The triazoles are used in a ratio of approximately 2: 1 to 1:20 with the dicarboxylic acids, preferably 1: 1 to 1:10. For a dampening solution concentrate, the mixture is added so much that it contains 0.3 to 5% by weight of triazole and 1 to 15% by weight, preferably 2 to 10% by weight, of dicarboxylic acid.
B. Lösemittel, Sequestrierungsmittel, Tenside, vorzugsweise in nichtionischer Form, Netzmittel, Entschäumer, Biocide u.a.Solubilizers can be used to dissolve triazole and dicarboxylic acids in the fountain solution used. The dampening solution normally contains hydrophilic thickeners suitable for adjusting the viscosity important for printing and for forming a protective layer when the machine is at a standstill, e.g. modified starch or cellulose, polyols, polyglycols or similar substances commonly used for this purpose. Other additives which improve the printing properties can also be used, e.g. B. solvents, sequestering agents, surfactants, preferably in non-ionic form, wetting agents, defoamers, biocides, etc.
Ammonium salts of the general formula R n H m N⁺X⁻ are preferably added to the dampening solution, where n 1-4, m 0-3, (n + m) 4 and R is alkyl and / or aryl, but preferably alkyl. The anion is preferably from derived from a carboxylic acid. In this embodiment, the corrosion-reducing effect is particularly evident, particularly over a longer period of time.
Buffer mixtures are necessary to keep the pH range optimal. According to the invention, the non-hydroxylated dicarboxylic acids with their salts and / or other weak acids and / or their salts are used for buffer formation. Such acids are in particular monocarboxylic acids or inorganic acids. An excellent buffer effect is obtained, especially if the dissociation constant is between 5 · 10⁻⁴ and 8 · 10⁻⁵ in the first stage.
The particular advantage of the combination of triazole and dicarboxylic acids according to the invention can be seen in the fact that after a significantly reduced initial removal, the further nickel removal comes to a standstill or almost completely.
In order to additionally subject the printing machine parts consisting of unprotected iron parts to corrosion inhibition, a corrosion inhibitor for iron is added to the dampening solution in cases where this additional protection is desired or is unavoidable. The addition of phosphoric acids, such as orthophosphoric acid or polyphosphoric acid and / or their salts, has proven particularly useful here. Orthophosphoric acid is preferably used.
By adding these inhibitors based on phosphoric acid or phosphate, the corrosion of the nickel-plated parts is increased slightly, but by adding the ammonium salts mentioned it is brought back to a constant final value below 1 g / m².
Depending on the composition, the dampening solution is offered to the user in solid, semi-solid or moist-pasty form, which he then dilutes with the appropriate amount of partially or fully demineralized water. The fountain solution used in printing in the machines usually contains 0.5 to 5.0% by weight, preferably 1.0 to 3% by weight, of the fountain solution according to the invention.
The invention is described below with the aid of selected examples. However, there is no restriction to the examples.
Preliminary tests had shown that the determination of corrosion as a weight loss can only lead to misleading assessments in practice after a specified immersion time in the fountain solution.
Die Nickelschichtdicke betrug 50 µm.The tests were therefore carried out on nickel-plated test sheets with a surface area of 58 cm², whereby they were alternately exposed to the air (70 times at room temperature) and the dampening solution to be tested (70 times at 20 ° C) within one minute. The nickel layer thickness was 50 µm.
Wet water containing 2% by weight of the recipes given in the following examples was used.
The components are given in parts by weight in the examples. The dicarboxylic acids were used in comparable molar amounts.
The removal of nickel (corrosion) by treatment with dampening water from Examples 1 to 4 as a function of time is shown in FIG. 1. From this diagram it is surprisingly and clearly evident that when using citric acid, which is usually present in damp waters, as well as tartaric acid (Comparative Examples 1 and 2; hydroxylated carboxylic acids), the nickel removal at the start of the action is already higher than when using adipine according to the invention - or benzene-1,2-dicarboxylic acid (Examples 3 and 4: non-hydroxylated dicarboxylic acids). However, the corrosion-inhibiting effect can be seen particularly clearly and surprisingly over a longer period of time. The corrosion comes to a standstill after a short time, while in the comparative examples 1 and 2 the corrosion increases continuously. The corrosion of comparative examples 1 and 2 - extrapolated to days or weeks, as is to be done in practice - is ten orders of magnitude higher than that of the invention.
The solutions of Examples 5 to 7 were used as in Examples 1 to 4 in 2% solution in distilled water for the corrosion test. The corrosion results obtained were summarized in Figure 2.
It can be seen from this diagram that the addition of phosphoric acid increases the nickel corrosion somewhat compared to Examples 3 and 4, but that here too the combination of tolyltriazole with the non-hydroxylated dicarboxylic acid, succinic acid, has a clear advantage over citric acid. The corrosion of the nickel also comes here after an initial decline stop (long-term inhibition). When tolyltriazole is combined with citric acid, on the other hand, there is a steadily increasing removal. This also applies when using 1 H-benzotriazole. The printing properties of the plates when using a fountain solution according to Example 7 are good.
If 0.3 part by weight (pbw) of dioctyldimethylammonium chloride is added to the formulation of Example 7, a further reduction in the removal is obtained in accordance with the diagram shown in FIG. The addition clearly shows an additional corrosion-inhibiting effect. A rectified effect can also be achieved with dibutylammonium caprylate.
A dampening solution concentrate according to Example 1 prepared with 5.1 pbw of pimelic acid or 3-methyladipic acid instead of citric acid and adjusted to pH 5.0 results in a 2% dilution with deionized water, a nickel removal curve corresponding to Figure 1, which runs on the zero line, i.e. no nickel is removed.
A dampening solution concentrate according to Example 2, but produced with 5.7 pbw of aminosuccinic acid instead of tartaric acid and brought to
The invention provides improved dampening solutions for printing practice. They have a very good buffering capacity and provide even moistening with low water requirements. The freewheel behavior is very good, the amount of waste is low. There is no smearing, sticking or foaming. The corrosion protection for nickel is very good, and iron corrosion when phosphoric acid and / or phosphates are added is also greatly reduced.
