Description

The invention first relates to a method for eliminating faults on machines for strapping packages according to the preamble of patent claim 1.

Steel strapping or thermoplastic plastic strapping are primarily used as strapping means, but also wire, strands, cords or the like. into consideration. If for the sake of simplicity the term "strap" is used below, a strapping means is generally addressed.

Modern strapping machines have become very powerful in terms of their clock frequency and their low susceptibility to faults in recent years. Nevertheless, it cannot be avoided that tape run disturbances occur. If a malfunction occurs that requires manual intervention to remedy the malfunction, the machine must be opened and the belt run must be properly restored at the relevant fault location. This generally presupposes that the tape is pulled out of the tape guide channel transversely in the region of the interference zone, cut off and reinserted into the tape channel after the other defects have been eliminated. To do this, a frontal intervention in the machine is required, which is why is particularly difficult because it is the machine area that points in the direction of a packaging line. For this reason, it is necessary for most troubleshooting to shut down or partially dismantle the packaging line in order to be able to carry out the necessary troubleshooting work. This is particularly time-consuming and cumbersome because of the poor accessibility. In addition, troubleshooting requires considerable knowledge and skills of a special kind that untrained operating personnel do not have.

The invention is therefore first of all based on the object of proposing a method for the elimination of malfunctions of tape running errors, which allows the troubleshooting to be carried out in a considerably shorter time than previously and in particular does not require an intervention in a packaging line. Technically inexperienced personnel should also be able to do this.

The invention solves this problem primarily and essentially with a method which is characterized in that the strapping means located in the machine in the event of a malfunction is at least substantially completely pulled out of the machine by the strapping means roll moving against the feed direction of the strapping means.

The main advantage of the method according to the invention is that the machine is disregarded of malfunctions that do not affect the belt run, or of atypical malfunctions - the machine no longer needs to be opened at all. The main idea of the new process is not to prepare the belt - as before - with regard to its flawless operation at the point of occurrence of the fault, but rather to process all of the belt material in the machine if the machine itself does not do so by repeating the last one At least largely withdrawing the work cycle of the rectifiable error from the machine.

The invention is based on the knowledge that in the majority of all malfunctions the belt itself (belt errors can also arise during the manufacture and / or storage of the belt) is responsible for the accident or has been damaged due to the accident. According to the invention, since the belt is at least approximately completely out of the machine - i.e. is pulled out of all belt running sections of the machine, it can then be conveyed back into the machine with the belt beginning correctly restored.

Another major advantage is that in a simple manner, such malfunctions can be easily rectified in which the tape is affected several times. If you imagine, for example, that the beginning of the tape would not have been reliably fed to the sealing unit and that it would be damaged, this error can cause further belt damage elsewhere in the machine. Up to now, therefore, it has often been necessary to carry out error elimination at at least two points on the machine, while the entire belt is now being pulled out of the machine, possibly cut off, and a new intact belt section can be fed again. This can also be done quickly by technically inexperienced personnel.

A further considerable advantage is that it is not necessary to look for belt defects in the complicated belt path within the machine, but that such defects can be examined on the belt pulled out of the machine. Incidents in which, after the tape has been removed from the machine, a renewed malfunction when the tape is reinserted are extremely rare. The method according to the invention is consequently suitable for eliminating the majority of tape run disturbances in the simplest way.

The invention is concerned not only with eliminating faults that have already occurred, but also with avoiding such faults from the start where possible. For this purpose, the invention provides that in the event of a network interruption or an interruption in operation of the machine that exceeds a preselected period of time, the strapping of the strapping means moving against the feed direction of the strapping means To pull strapping at least out of the strapping stock. This process step avoids operational disruptions due to deformations of the strapping material, which can occur in the event of a long interruption in operation. In particular within a strapping material store, the strap suffers plastic deformations in its loop-shaped state during long storage, which can lead to malfunctions. The invention avoids such disturbances by emptying the tape store. The method step is particularly advantageous to apply to box belt stores in which the strapping material is loosely inserted.

Further method features result from the subclaims and from the following description of the method using an exemplary machine.

Bezüglich der Merkmale der Unteransprüche ist die Fehlerbehandlung für zwei unterschiedliche Problemfälle hervorzuheben:With regard to the characteristics of the subclaims, the error handling for two different problem cases should be emphasized:

If it is found that the beginning of the belt - that is the front end of the belt to be fed into the machine - is undamaged, the belt is not pulled out completely from the machine, but is only pulled back into a position which enables the machine itself, the belt to shoot again. Only if the beginning of the tape is damaged and therefore with a fault that occurs when the tape is fed again must be calculated, the tape is removed completely from the machine so that it can be shot again (by cutting the tape) after making a smooth tape start.

In the drawing, a strapping machine is shown schematically, which is designated in its entirety with 10. On the machine housing 11 there is an essentially closed band guide channel 12, through which and around a packaged product, not shown, a strapping means 13 is fed to a closure unit 14.

The strapping means 13 - usually a band made of steel or thermoplastic material - is stored outside of the machine housing 11 on a strapping means roll 15. In the exemplary embodiment, the strapping roll 15 is physically designed as a belt drum 16, which is rotatably supported on a shaft 17. The shaft 17 is assigned a brake 18 and a drive motor 19 for the strapping winding.

Reference numeral 20 designates a strapping material store which, in the exemplary embodiment, is designed as a box strap storage device with a clear internal width which is only slightly larger than the strapping means 13. A fill indicator 21 in the form of a control serves to control the fill level of the strapping material store 20 a two-armed lever 23 loaded by a spring 22, which can actuate a switch 24. The strapping means 13 is conveyed into the strapping means store 20 with the aid of storage filling conveyor rollers 25. Behind the strapping material store 20 in the conveying direction of the strapping means at the front are strip retraction rollers 26, which in turn have upstream tape insertion rollers 27. The rollers 25, 26 and 27 mentioned are designed as pairs of friction-driving rollers.

The first time, or after a malfunction has been rectified, the band feed from the strapping roll 15 to the sealing unit 14 is such that the beginning of the strapping is inserted between the rollers 25. A mechanical drive ensures that the beginning of the strapping is further conveyed between the weft rollers 27. Before they shoot the beginning of the band through the strapping channel 12, however, the strapping agent reservoir 20 is first filled with a strapping agent supply, while initially only the storage filling conveyor rollers 25 are driven.

On the strapping agent inlet side, a band indicator 28, designated 28, is provided on the outside of the machine housing 11. It has the task of determining whether or not there is strapping in this area of the strap guide on the machine exit side.

In the embodiment between the retraction rollers 26 and the weft rollers 27, a belt edge tester 29 is provided which - e.g. by means of infrared radiation - when retraction of the strapping means 13, which will be described later, has to determine whether the passing start of the strap is damaged or not.

Another sensor, not shown, is also located on the closure assembly 14 to determine whether or not the beginning of the tape has taken up its lockable position after the insertion.

The machine shown as an embodiment or its electronic control, which is housed in a switch box 30, is otherwise designed so that it tries to repeat the last process in the event of a tape guiding disorder occurring at the push of a button. If, after repeated repetition, this does not lead to the elimination of the fault message, there is a fault to be rectified in the sense of the invention.

In this case, the strapping means 13 is pulled out of the machine, based on a preferred control automatically by means of the motor 19. In this case, the brake 18, which controls the moment of inertia of the strapping winding during the normal operating sequence when unwinding the strapping means 13 and prevents uncontrolled running of the strapping means, is released and then the strapping middle winding 15 rotated against the tape feed direction. As a result, the strapping means 13 is first withdrawn from the strapping means storage 20 - if it is filled - and then from the rest of the machine, in particular the strapping channel 12.

Whether or not the strapping means 13 is pulled completely out of the machine depends on whether or not the strap edge sensor 29 detects damage to the beginning of the strapping means. If he determines that the beginning of the belt is essentially undamaged and is therefore suitable for further use, the free belt section remains between the rollers 25 and 26 and is thus available for renewed insertion (drive of the storage filling conveyor rollers 25). If, on the other hand, the strap edge sensor detects significant damage to the beginning of the strap, this leads to a control of the motor 19 such that the entire strapping means 13 is completely withdrawn from the machine.

Provision is also made here that the strapping roll 15 does not "spin", which is done in a simple manner in that as soon as the band detector 28 has determined that the beginning of the band has left the machine, the brake 18 is applied again.

By cutting off the piece of tape that is no longer usable, a new section of tape that can be shot in is removed from the tape removed from the machine manufactured, which can then be reintroduced into the belt channel of the machine.

In order to avoid a typical malfunction, which can result from the strapping means 13 suffering from plastic deformations in the strapping means store 20 for a longer period of time, provision is made to empty the strapping means store 20 as needed, i.e. the strapping means 13 from the strapping means store 20 at least by turning back the strapping means roll 15 pull out so far that it runs straight between the pairs of rollers 25 and 26. It can be assumed that there is no risk of belt damage in the remaining belt running zones of the machine.

The emptying of the strapping agent storage should take place in particular in the event of an interruption in the network, be it after the machine has been switched off or in the event of a power failure. Another application is when the machine no longer carries out a work cycle for a preselected time - for example about an hour - the strapping means 13 thus persists in the strapping means storage 20 partially compressed for a corresponding period of time. Then a strapping agent emptying should take place automatically. In any case, the strapping means 13, which is brought back onto the strapping 15, has time and opportunity there to change into a smoothed state.

Deviating from the exemplary embodiment shown, it would also be conceivable that the tape edge sensor 29, in the event of a damaged tape start being signaled, activates a cutting device integrated in the machine and that the cut tape end is ejected from the channel. In this case, manual handling of the tape is completely unnecessary.
