Definitions

  • the present inventions relate to a method of birth registration in animals, preferably dogs, and to an apparatus for carrying out the method.
  • the gestation period can vary by several days in dogs, for example, an exact date of birth cannot be determined, so that the person observing is forced to continuously observe the bitch over a period of several days.
  • the observation span also extends over night times.
  • the present invention is therefore based on the object of developing a method for birth registration in animals in such a way that monitoring of the birth is made considerably easier for a supervisor and takes place without problems for the parturient animal.
  • this object is achieved in that the air humidity suddenly increased by the amniotic fluid released at birth and an acoustic and / or visual signal is triggered immediately afterwards.
  • a device for carrying out the method is designed such that a moisture sensor is arranged within a litter box, dog house or the like, preferably in the ceiling area, which registers electrical changes with a sudden change in humidity operable evaluation device is connected and that the evaluation device is connected to a signal generator provided outside the whelping box, dog house or the like.
  • the signal transmitter can be provided in the breeding area, for example, so that a constant presence in the area of the animal is unnecessary for him.
  • an embodiment of the invention provides that the evaluation device is designed as a suitably trained microprocessor, which compares the humidity values determined by the humidity sensor at short time intervals with previous humidity values and thus determines a brief, sudden increase in humidity, which leads to an impulse to the signal generator .
  • a particularly inexpensive embodiment of the device according to the invention is realized by a further idea.
  • the humidity sensor consists of two identical resistors, each in a separate chamber. Each chamber has openings that connect the interior of the chambers and the inside of the doghouse or litter box. The area of the opening of the first chamber is smaller than that of the opening of the second chamber. If the humidity in the doghouse suddenly rises due to the release of amniotic fluid, the larger opening in the second chamber causes a greater amount of moisture mist than in the first chamber. The humidity-dependent, variable electrical resistance of the second chamber consequently reacts faster to the sudden increase in air humidity than the resistance of the first chamber, so that a corresponding electrical pulse is given to the downstream evaluation device.
  • FIG. 1 shows a dog house 11, in the interior of which a moisture sensor 12 is arranged in the ceiling area, which is connected to an evaluation device 13 via an electrical cable 15.
  • the device is supplied with power via a connecting cable 16.
  • the cable 15 can be designed in any length, so that birth monitoring is also possible at a greater distance.
  • the evaluation device 13 is connected to give signal generators 20, 21, which can be designed both as a visual display in the form of a light-emitting diode, glow or incandescent lamp and as an acoustic display in the form of a buzzer.
  • the evaluation device 13 is provided with a start switch 18 and a stop switch 19, with the aid of which the cable connections can be checked.
  • the entire device can be put into operation with an on-off switch 17, a control lamp being integrated in the on-off switch for checking the power supply.
  • the moisture sensor 12 which is shown in cross section in FIG. 2, consists of two identical resistors 26, 27, one of which is arranged in a separate chamber 22, 23. Both chambers 22, 23 are components of a housing and have openings 24, 25, which form a connection between the interior of the chambers 22, 23 and the interior of the dog house 11.
  • the base area of the opening 24 of the first chamber 22 is smaller than the base area of the openings 25 of the second chamber 23.
  • FIG. 2 A functional sequence of the device is described below using the circuit shown in FIG. 2:
  • the bursting of the bitch's amniotic sac releases warm amniotic fluid which pours onto the bottom of the litter box, dog house or the like.
  • the air humidity inside the whelping box suddenly increases by 10% relative humidity.
  • the invention takes advantage of this sudden rise in humidity to report the birth process.
  • the moisture sensor 12 which is formed as a variable electrical resistance and is dependent on air humidity, reacts to the sudden increase in air humidity by changing its electrical properties.
  • the resistance value of the resistor 27 increases up to 100%.
  • This change in resistance at input 3 of an integrated circuit (IC) 28 leads to a voltage rise. If this voltage exceeds a threshold value specified at connection 2 of the integrated circuit 28, the output 6 of the integrated circuit is switched through.
  • a downstream transistor 29 then turns on, so that a relay 30 picks up and the signal generator 21 is actuated.
  • the relay 30 is connected with a second pair of switching contacts 31 to bridge the transistor 29 as a latching relay.
  • two identical resistors 26, 27 are provided as moisture sensors. This measure allows humidity fluctuations, which can occur continuously and relatively slowly in dog houses, to act on the humidity sensor without a signal being triggered.
  • the circuit is supplied with power via a transformer 32 with a connected rectifier 33 and a voltage stabilizer 34.
  • the on-off switch is also provided in the feed line 36.
