Abstract

A device for a loudspeaker (1) used at the same time to produce light effects has a membrane (2) and light sources (10). The opening of the membrane (2) is covered by a rotating perforated disk (5) and by a stationary perforated disk (6). The rotation of the rotating disk (5) produces the desired light effects by covering in a changeable manner the holes of both disks (5, 6). The rotation is effected by entrainment elements (11) secured to the membrane (2) and the free extremity of which lies on the rotating disk (4). The vibrations produced when the loudspeaker (1) is in operation cause said elements (11) to slide, their movement being transferred by frictional engagement to the disk (5), rotating the same.

Description

The invention relates to a device for producing light effects, with two coaxially arranged disks, one of which is driven to rotate by means of sound vibration actuated means, and at least one of which is illuminated by a light source.

Devices for producing light effects are known in which a light source is arranged behind a plurality of disks which can be rotated relative to one another, the disks being either transparent or provided with openings. With such a device, a flowing light effect can be generated.

At events where singing or music is transmitted via loudspeakers, it is often desirable to also create lighting effects. So far, this has been done by means of individual, mostly different colored light sources, which are arranged separately from the speakers and whose power supply is constantly changed. This requires a complicated electronic control.

From US-A-4 232 304 a device for producing light effects has become known which has two disks illuminated by a light source and driven to rotate in opposite directions. The disks are driven by a ratchet mechanism by means of a vibrating bearing shaft which is connected to an electrical coil which is arranged in the field of a permanent magnet. If electrical signals are fed to the coil, for example from the output of a radio, a record player or a tape recorder, the oscillating movement of the coil produces an axial vibration movement of the bearing axis and thus a rotary movement of the two disks. A disadvantage of this known arrangement is the complex design with regard to the structural design and the required space. The rotary movement of the two disks is dependent on sound vibrations, but to achieve these rotary movements not only a separate vibration system is required, regardless of the loudspeakers that reproduce the sound vibrations, but also complex construction elements are necessary to convert the vibratory movements into rotating movements.

It is an object of the present invention to improve a device for generating light effects of the type described in the introduction in such a way that the drive of the rotating disk is simplified and the device can be combined with a loudspeaker without the space required for the loudspeaker being significantly increased becomes. To achieve this object, the invention proposes that the two, having openings, disks are arranged at the opening of the diaphragm of a loudspeaker and that the means have at least one driver which is attached to the rotating disc or to the diaphragm and with its free End rests frictionally on the membrane or on the rotating disc, so that a rotation of the disc is caused by the vibrations of the membrane.

In the device according to the invention, as in that from US Pat. No. 4,232,304, acoustic vibrations are used to drive the rotating disk, but the drive is derived directly from the vibrations of the diaphragm of a loudspeaker and is carried out by drivers which cause the vibrations of the diaphragm of the loudspeaker by frictional engagement on the disc. It has been shown that, with a suitable design of such drivers, the desired rotary movement of the rotating disk takes place by frictional driving, in particular in the frequency range of the loudspeaker between 60 and 120 Hz.

The combination between the device for generating light effects and a loudspeaker has the advantage that it can be accommodated in a common housing, an enlargement of the housing accommodating the loudspeaker not being necessary. The device according to the invention can be used wherever loudspeaker transmissions are to take place and lighting effects are to be achieved, for example when singers or musicians appear, where a microphone transmission takes place, in discotheques or at similar events.

According to a preferred embodiment of the invention, the rotating disk covers the opening of the diaphragm of the loudspeaker, which results in the greatest possible effects.

In the context of the invention, the driver can consist of a wire bent in the form of a helical section. In this embodiment, the free end of the wire is tangential to or surface of the rotating disc, so that the conversion of the swinging movement of the loudspeaker diaphragm into a rotary movement of the rotating disc is ensured. For this purpose, the rotating disk on the side facing the membrane expediently has a ring on which the driver bears. This ring reinforces the disk in the area where the driver acts on the disk, so that deformations of the disk are avoided there, and ensures a completely flat contact surface for the driver, which is necessary for the device according to the invention to function properly. The driver can be glued to the membrane, preferably by means of an epoxy adhesive. In this way, a secure connection between the driver, which consists, for example, of a metal wire, and the membrane is ensured. According to a further feature of the invention the free end of the driver, which rests against the rotating disk, is provided with a cap made of sound-absorbing material, for example made of rubber or rubber-like material. This avoids disturbing noises that may otherwise occur when the driver moves the rotating disc.

According to another, particularly favorable embodiment of the invention, the driver can consist of a fiber bundle, preferably of carbon fibers, which is arranged obliquely to the axis of the membrane. This fiber bundle is preferably fastened to the rotating disk and rests with its free end on an outer ring of the membrane. Such a fiber bundle reliably transmits the vibrations of the membrane to the rotating disk, without disturbing noises or mechanical stress on the membrane or the disk.

The light source can be arranged within the diaphragm of the loudspeaker, the diaphragm preferably being provided with a light-reflecting coating. Such an embodiment has the advantage that no additional space is required for accommodating the light source, since in the large loudspeakers used in practice there is sufficient space within the membrane for accommodating the light source. In such a case, the membrane can also serve as a reflector. In this case, the light emitted by the light source emerges through the translucent openings in the disks, the desired lighting effects being brought about by the changing coverage of the two disks during the rotational movement of the rotating disk. However, the light source can also be arranged outside the membrane or the housing receiving the loudspeaker, so that the side of one of the panes facing the viewer is illuminated by a light source, for example a headlight. In this case, the other, rotating disk must be provided with a light-reflecting coating on its side facing the viewer. In this case too, the rotating movement of the rotating disk causes a different reflection of the light, as a result of which the desired light effects occur. Additional effects can be brought about by the fact that the rotating disk has at its edge a bend provided with openings and / or cutouts, to which light from at least one light source is directed.

The device according to FIGS. 1 to 3 has a loudspeaker 1 with a membrane 2. The edge 3 of the loudspeaker 1 and the outer ring 16 of the diaphragm 2 are fastened to a frame 4 which can form part of the housing 25 of the device. The membrane 2 is covered by a rotating disc 5 and by a fixed disc 6. Both disks 5 are provided with openings 18 and 19, respectively, this disk is expediently designed as perforated disks or as a speaker grille. The fixed disc 6 is supported with a flange 7 on the frame 4 and has a bearing pin 8 on which a bearing 8 of the rotating disc 5 is mounted, which rotates about the axis 17 of the loudspeaker 1 or the device. Light sources 10 are arranged within the membrane 2. During the rotating movement of the rotating disk 5, the alternating coverage of the opening 18, 19 in the two disks 5, 6 results in light effects to the outside. The openings in these panes also serve to allow the sound to emerge from the loudspeaker 1.

To achieve the rotational movement of the rotating disk 5, a plurality of drivers 11 are provided, each of which consists of a wire which is bent in the form of a helical section and at 12 on an annular part 13 protruding from the frustoconical part of the membrane 2 by gluing, for example by means of a Epoxy adhesive is attached. The free end of each driver 11 has a cap 14 made of a sound-absorbing material, which abuts a ring 15 which is arranged on the rotating disk 5 and projects in the direction of the membrane 2. Due to the vibrations of the diaphragm 2 occurring during operation of the loudspeaker 1, in particular at frequencies between 60 and 120 Hz, the drivers 11 move, which is transmitted via the caps 14 by frictional engagement to the ring 15 and thus to the disk 5, that this disc 5 rotates about the axis 17 without an electric motor or similar drive being required for this.

In the embodiment according to FIG. 4, drivers 21 also serve as a rotary drive for the disk 5, but are formed by brush-like carbon fiber bundles. Each of these carbon fiber bundles is fastened to the disk 5 with a holder 22, the axis of the respective carbon fiber bundle being arranged obliquely to the axis 17. The free ends of the drivers 21 formed by the carbon fiber bundles lie on an outer ring 16 of the membrane 2 at. This outer ring 16 can be relatively rigid, but transmits the vibrations of the diaphragm 2 to the drivers 21, of which three or four are expediently arranged at regular intervals around the circumference of the outer ring 16. Serving as the light source 10 in the housing 25, however, light-emitting diodes which are arranged outside the membrane 2 and are expediently in different colors. These LEDs are so inclined on the circumference of the housing 25 that they radiate in the direction of the axis 17 or the journal 8. The rotating disk 5 is provided on its circumference with a bend 23 and is formed in this area with openings and or or cutouts 24, as a result of which an alternating light incidence of the light emitted by the light sources 10 is achieved toward the inside of the disk 5. As a result, further effects can be achieved, in particular when light sources 10 of different colors are used. The light sources 10 are covered and thereby protected by the outer pane 6, which is firmly but detachably connected to the housing 25.

In a modified embodiment, no light sources 10 are provided within the membrane 2, but the device is illuminated from the outside, for example by means of at least one headlight 20 (FIG. 1), the light of which thus falls on the outside of the pane 6. The surface of the rotating disc 5 facing the disc 6 is then provided with a light-reflecting coating through which the light emitted by the headlights 20 is reflected, so that light effects also result.

The membrane 2 can also be provided with a light-reflecting coating for better utilization of the light emitted by the light sources 10.
