Definitions

  • a repeating pipette on which a suction device provided with a piston with a conical suction piece is to be arranged.
  • the piston can be moved back and forth in a cylinder of the suction device, so that liquids can be sucked in when the piston is withdrawn and dispensed when the piston is advanced.
  • the use of such a syringe-like suction device in conjunction with a repeating pipette is used in laboratory operation to remove liquids from a vessel and dispense them in a metered manner.
  • the liquids are usually organic and inorganic liquids, solvents, acids, alkalis and reagents, the volume of liquid drawn being in the ml order.
  • bottle dispensers are known, with which can be conveyed into an open additional vessel, with which liquid can then be removed. The handling of such bottle dispensers is cumbersome; they are also complex and expensive.
  • the invention has for its object to provide a suction aid for a piston-provided suction device with a suction piece for removing liquid from a vessel that is so deep that the bottom of the vessel cannot be reached with the suction piece.
  • a suction aid for a piston-provided suction device with a suction piece for removing liquid from a vessel that is so deep that the bottom of the vessel cannot be reached with the suction piece.
  • the suction aid provided according to the invention prevents the liquid from being transferred from the deep vessel into a flat vessel, which would be problematic in particular when processing aggressive substances.
  • constant handling should be made possible while maintaining the same suction conditions.
  • a device in which a liquid can be removed from a vessel by means of a suction device provided with a piston via a housing forming a removal chamber, a check valve and a tube.
  • a suction aid for a separate suction device such as a pipette or pipetting device.
  • it is a conveying device for a liquid dilution system, in which the suction device is attached in one piece to the removal chamber and the housing forming the removal chamber is arranged locally separated from the vessel.
  • Dosing devices are known from DE-U-19 54 583, GB-A-950,304 and DE-A-32 04 118, in which liquid is conveyed from a vessel into an intermediate chamber via a tube in order to be dispensed from there . In these metering devices, however, the liquid is conveyed upwards through the tube by manually compressing the elastic vessel.
  • the suction aid designed according to the invention allows liquid to be removed from a vessel that is too deep for the suction piece of a separate suction device such as a pipette or pipetting device.
  • the housing forming the removal chamber is used for liquid removal placed on the vessel, the tube being immersed in the vessel, expediently up to just above the bottom thereof; then the suction piece of the separate suction device is inserted sealingly into the inlet opening of the housing. If the piston of the suction device is now pulled upwards in a suction stroke, the vacuum generated in this way draws liquid from the vessel through the pipe into the removal chamber and from there into the suction device.
  • the removal chamber is connected on the one hand via the tube to the interior of the vessel and on the other hand via the inlet opening to the suction device, but is otherwise closed to the environment.
  • the check valve ensures that liquid that has entered the tube and the removal chamber during a suction stroke cannot flow back into the vessel.
  • the removal chamber is expediently filled with the liquid up to a level determined by the lower end of the suction piece. Then, with the suction device in the form of a pipette or pipetting device, liquid can be withdrawn continuously from the intermediate volume formed in the removal chamber, which is continuously topped up via the tube, so that the level of the liquid in the removal chamber remains practically constant.
  • a larger-volume suction device can be used once for the safe filling of the removal chamber.
  • the suction aid designed according to the invention is structurally simple and reliable. In particular, it makes expensive bottle dispensers or the like superfluous. Also a casting the liquid from the deep vessel into a flat vessel is no longer required.
  • the housing consists of a lower housing shell and an upper housing shell, which are tightly connected to one another.
  • the upper mouth of the tube or a tubular extension receiving the tube is arranged near the top wall of the upper housing shell.
  • the upper mouth thus forms an overflow for the liquid in the interior of the removal chamber, the level of the liquid located in the removal chamber being formed as a function of the respective immersion depth of the suction piece. In any case, this level is below the upper mouth of the tube or the tubular extension, while above the level of the liquid, the housing is filled with air.
  • the suction aid shown has a housing 1. This consists of a lower housing shell 2 and a liquid-tight flange-mounted upper housing shell 3. The interior between the two housing shells 2 and 3 forms a removal chamber 4. A tube 5 projects downward from the lower housing shell 2.
  • the lower housing shell 2 is arranged on the edge 6 of the mouth of a vessel 7 designed as a bottle.
  • a vessel 7 designed as a bottle.
  • liquid 8 with a level 9 which decreases with increasing liquid withdrawal.
  • the tube 5 extends to the bottom 10 of the vessel 7 and has circumferentially distributed, upwardly directed incisions 11. According to another embodiment, the tube 5 is so short that it ends above the bottom 10. This arrangement has the purpose of being able to remove liquid from the vessel 7 as long as there is still liquid in the vessel 7.
  • the housing 1 has an inlet opening 13 in the upper housing shell 3, specifically in the top wall 12.
  • the conical suction piece 14 of a syringe-like suction device 15, which is arranged on a pipette device or a repeating pipette, can be inserted through the inlet opening 13.
  • the inlet opening 13 is correspondingly conical and in this respect forms a sealing cone for the conical suction piece 14, which thus projects with its lower end to a certain depth into the removal chamber 4.
  • the tube 5 can be formed in one piece with the lower housing shell 2. Its mouth lies just below the top wall 12.
  • a tubular extension 17 is formed in the lower housing shell 2, which extends up to just below the top wall 12 and emerges downward from the bottom 18 of the lower housing shell 2 and has inwardly directed sealing projections 19.
  • the tube 5 is inserted liquid-tight. Its depth of use can be set within limits, depending on how far the tube 5 is inserted into the tubular extension 17.
  • the tubular extension 17 has, below its upper mouth 16, an inwardly, upwardly concave, shell-like profile 20 with a central passage 21.
  • the upper side forms a valve seat 22 for a spherical valve body 23, which seals the interior of the tube 5, if one follows suction force directed downwards or a pressure force directed from above occurs.
  • a floating out of the valve body 23 from the mouth 16 is prevented by an extension 25 projecting into the mouth 16 on the top wall 12 of the housing.
  • the top wall 12 can also serve directly as a stop for the valve body 23 in order to hold it in the tubular extension 17 above the valve seat 22.
  • the suction piece 14 of the suction device 15 is inserted into the inlet opening 13.
  • a negative pressure is created in the removal chamber 4, through which liquid 5 is sucked out of the vessel 7 via the tube 5.
  • the valve body 23 lifts from its seat 22, and the liquid rises through the tube 5 and flows from the upper mouth 16 into the removal chamber 4.
  • the first suction stroke of the suction device 15 is not sufficient to fill the removal chamber with liquid up to the level 24 and also to draw liquid into the suction device 15, then a second or several suction strokes would have to take place.
  • the pressure stroke directed into the removal chamber 4 then ensures that the valve body 23 is pressed against its valve seat 22 and thus the tube 5 remains filled with liquid. Accordingly, the level 24 is maintained once it is reached. The resulting overpressure in the removal chamber 4 is relieved by a vent valve 45.
  • vent valve 45 can, however, be avoided if, after the first suction stroke, the suction piece 14 of the suction device 15 is removed from the inlet opening 13 and then the piston of the suction device 15 is returned to its starting position in a pressure stroke.
  • FIG. 2 shows a corresponding embodiment with the same reference numerals, but the check valve with the valve body 23 'is arranged at the lower end of the tube 5.
  • the valve body 23 ' is arranged in an attachment piece 27 which has lateral openings 28 for the entry of the liquid.
  • the top piece 27 can be removed, so that the length of the tube 5 can also be adapted to the depth of the vessel in this embodiment.
  • a valve seat 35 for the valve body 23 ' created above the openings 28 by tapering the attachment piece 27, which has enough space within the attachment piece 27 and below the lower tube end to lift off.
  • the tubular extension 17 arranged on the lower housing shell 2 is connected to the tube 5 by a close fit. In this context, too, there is a possibility of adjustment given to the bottle depth by pushing the tube 5 differently into the tubular extension 17.
  • the lower level 24 is shown as the minimum level corresponding to a maximum length of the extension 14. Furthermore, an upper level 29 below the upper mouth 16 of the tube 5 is indicated corresponding to a minimum length of the extension piece 14.
  • FIG. 3 shows a top view of the inlet opening 13. It has a flange-like edge 30 and is penetrated on the inside by a seal 31 in the form of a membrane which has star-shaped incisions 32, 33 and 34 extending from its center.
  • a seal 31 in the form of a membrane which has star-shaped incisions 32, 33 and 34 extending from its center.
  • a shell 40 is provided which is open at the top. From it, the downward tube 5 starts.
  • the check valve with the valve seat 22 and the spherical valve body 23 is located below a conical or conical wall part 41 of the shell 40 and below a central through opening 37.
  • the shell 40 has a slightly conical connecting piece 39, which goes down from the through opening 37 and in which the check valve 22, 23 is arranged.
  • the tube 5 is pushed onto this connection piece 39 in a sealing manner.
  • an insert 42 which is adapted to the respective wall parts is arranged. It forms a sealing seat for the suction piece 14 of the suction device 15 provided with a piston.
  • the lower edge 43 of the insert 42 also forms an abutment or a holding element for the valve body 23 if it floats. Its diameter is larger than the passage diameter of the lower edge 43.
  • connection piece 39 The space formed by the connection piece 39, the valve 22, 23 and the insert 42 forms the removal chamber 4, via which liquid can be sucked out of the tube 5 into the suction piece 14 of the suction device 15.
