Definitions

  • the present invention relates to a tape drive device for magnetic recorder, and more particularly of the type with rotating heads, as well as a recorder provided with such a device.
  • Such recorders comprise one or more magnetic recording / reading heads, fixed on the periphery of a rotary element, coaxial with the axis of a cylindrical drum against the surface of which is helically wound a magnetic strip moving between a supply coil and a take-up coil.
  • the information is recorded on the tape according to oblique tracks whose inclination is a function of the ratio of the respective speeds of the tape and the head.
  • Recorders of this type include two families. In the first family, the heads are fixed on the periphery of a turntable, coaxial with the drum, and arranged in a slot provided in an equatorial plane of the drum; in front of the slot scrolls said magnetic strip wound helically on the drum. In the second family, the drum comprises a fixed lower part and a rotating upper part at the base of which the heads are fixed.
  • the positioning and unwinding of the strip relative to the drum, from the supply reel to the take-up reel, are carried out by sets of rollers and / or needles, respectively arranged upstream and downstream of the drum.
  • the translational drive of the strip is achieved by at least one capstan disposed downstream of the drum.
  • the voltage T2 is a function of the values of f and of ⁇ .
  • the value of ⁇ is generally fixed and imposed.
  • the value of f can vary, increasing, taking into account the conditions of humidity, temperature or pressure, or the surface condition of the strip for example, and take values such as the tension T2 is excessive, preventing the correct unfolding of the tape, or even damaging its physical integrity.
  • the tension T0 of the strip strand at the output of the supply coil is easily controllable, for example at using a belt tension sensor controlling the rotation of the supply reel, it is not the same for the tension T2 of the strip strand downstream of the drum, which is linked to a function of To, f and ⁇ and other parameters depending on the type of capstan disposed downstream of the drum and with which the known devices are provided.
  • FIG. 1A is shown schematically in top view, the tape path of a recorder provided with a known tape drive device.
  • T2 therefore depends directly on the coefficient of friction f, and can take excessive values, if the value of f increases.
  • FIG. 1C provided with two so-called wrap capstans, namely a first upstream capstan (b1, H1, b2) and d 'a second downstream capstan (b3, H2, b4), the two capstans rotating at the same speed and being of the wrap type.
  • T1 be the values of the tape tension respectively upstream and downstream of the first capstan (To being the voltage at the output of the supply coil)
  • T2 and T3 the values of the tape tension respectively upstream and downstream of the second capstan
  • ⁇ ' the angle of winding of the strip on one or the other of the capstans
  • f ′ the coefficient of friction of the strip on the respective capstans.
  • the control of the unwinding of the strip is only relative, taking into account the previous inequality relation (4), linking the values of the tensions, angles, and coefficients of friction.
  • Document FR 2 130 346 describes a recording-reproduction system on magnetic tape. The purpose of this system is to allow the use of compact and space-saving cassettes. To ensure good movement of the strip on the guide surface of the drum, this document recommends a slight increase in the strip tension obtained by a speed of rotation of the capstan located downstream (on the side of the take-up reel) greater than the speed rotation of the capstan located upstream (on the supply reel side). The belt tension is then well controlled upstream, but depends on external and random parameters downstream.
  • the present invention makes it possible to maintain optimum scrolling even with a significant winding of the strip around the drum. More generally, the present invention aims to remedy the drawbacks of the systems of the prior art by a tape drive device, simple in design and operation, and allowing good control of the tape tension downstream of the drum.
  • the device for driving a magnetic strip capable of running from a supply reel to a take-up reel along a determined path during which the strip is capable of winding at a given angle along a fixed element, (such as a cylindrical drum provided with rotating heads or a set of fixed linear heads), and sliding against the surface of the latter, comprising first and second drive means respectively arranged in upstream and downstream of said element, is characterized in that the drive means located downstream comprises a capstan and in that the drive means located upstream comprises a roller around which the strip is wound and the roller being driven in rotation so that its linear speed is greater at the linear speed of the strip and in the same direction as the latter and adapted to allow the strip to slide on said roller.
  • the friction coefficient on the one hand and the winding angle on the other hand, of the strip on the roller are substantially equal respectively to the friction coefficient on the one hand and the winding angle respectively.
  • the strip on the fixed element are substantially equal respectively to the friction coefficient on the one hand and the winding angle respectively.
  • the drive roller is linked to the capstan motor by mechanical transmission means.
  • the linear speed of the drive roller is approximately twice the linear speed of the strip, which gives equal sliding speeds, on the one hand between the strip and the fixed element (drum), and on the other hand between the strip and the drive roller.
  • the device of the present invention is described below in relation to a recording / reading apparatus with rotating magnetic heads, of the type known per se, and an exemplary embodiment of which is shown diagrammatically in FIG. 2.
  • the recorder / player comprises a cylindrical drum 1 consisting of an upper drum 2 and a lower drum 3, separated by a slot 4 arranged in an equatorial plane, perpendicular to the axis of the drum and approximately halfway up this last.
  • a disc-shaped element capable of being rotated around the axis of the drum.
  • the disc carries one, and generally several magnetic heads 6 arranged regularly on its periphery and projecting very slightly relative to the surface defining the wall of the drum.
  • the invention is also capable of applying to a recorder with rotating heads in which the upper part of the drum is rotary and carries the heads on its base; as with a recorder with fixed linear heads, said fixed element then consisting of a support in which the heads are arranged one above the other.
  • a magnetic strip 7 is capable of being wound helically around the drum 1 to form, when viewed from above, an omega.
  • a set of rollers 8A, 8B, 9A, 9B, 9C, 9D guide the strip 7 and maintain it according to this configuration during its running, from a supply reel 10 to a take-up reel 11 (known in themselves) of a cassette K.
  • the information is recorded / read from the tape in segments of tracks parallel and oblique to the axis of the tape.
  • the strip travels along the path shown in Figure 2 under the action of drive means consisting in this case of a capstan 12, known per se, for example of the type provided with a pressure roller and a roller driven in rotation by a motor, between which the strip is pinched.
  • drive means consisting in this case of a capstan 12, known per se, for example of the type provided with a pressure roller and a roller driven in rotation by a motor, between which the strip is pinched.
  • the recorder can also include so-called means for loading the tape from a position where the latter is in the cassette K to an operating position, corresponding to the strip path shown in FIG. 1.
  • Said loading means comprise means for moving the rollers 8 and 9.
  • the strip 7 is wound on the surface of the drum at a given angle ⁇ .
  • the recorder in Figure 2 includes only one capstan.
  • the device of the invention applies to recorders of the type described above, provided with first and second drive means, respectively arranged upstream and downstream of the drum.
  • a strip 7 travels from a supply reel BE to a take-up reel BR, along a path comprising successively (from upstream to downstream) a first drive assembly 13, a drum 1 provided with one or more heads and a second drive assembly 14.
  • the arrows indicated on the strip 7 show the direction of travel of the strip.
  • the second drive assembly 14 (or downstream assembly) consists of a capstan of the type known as a pressure roller, known per se, and comprising a drive roller 15 and a pressure roller 16 between which the strip is pinched.
  • the pressure roller is associated with a pressure member, such as a spring 17. The strip is driven without sliding.
  • the strip is wound helically around the drum 1 at a winding angle d , from a roller 18 for upstream scrolling and a roller 19 for downstream scrolling.
  • the strip slides on the drum 1, with a coefficient of friction f .
  • the first drive assembly 13 (or upstream assembly) comprises a driven roller 20 around which the strip 7 is wound at an angle ⁇ ', and a return roller 21 disposed upstream of the roller 20; at the exit of the latter, the strip is wound around the upstream winding roller 18.
  • the driven roller 20 has a speed of rotation such that its linear speed is substantially greater than that of the strip.
  • the strip slides on the driven roller 20, with a coefficient of friction f ′ .
  • the coefficients of friction f and f ′ are a function of the materials making up the strip, the roller 20 and the drum.
  • the roller 20 of the upstream drive assembly 13 is driven (via mechanical transmission members) by the motor of the roller 15 of the downstream drive assembly 14.
  • the driven roller 20 is secured to a pulley 22 on which a belt 23 also engages on a pulley 24 attached to the axis of the capstan roller motor 15.
  • the value of the linear speed of the roller 20 is of the order of approximately twice that of the linear speed of the capstan roller 15.
  • the tension of the strip has different values Ti along the strip path, namely successively T0 at the output of the transmitting coil (equal to the tension upstream of the driven roller 20), T1 downstream of the latter (equal to the tension upstream of the drum 1), T2 downstream of the drum 1 (equal to the tension upstream of the capstan roller 15), and finally T3 downstream of the latter.
  • the value of the winding angle ⁇ of the strip on the drum is given and imposed.
  • the value of the friction coefficient f is imposed, being mainly according to the materials constituting the strip and the drum and the surface condition of the latter.
  • T2 TO (9)
  • T2 is thus very easily determinable, which makes it possible to perfectly control the belt tension downstream of the drum.
  • the device also works when the strip runs in the opposite direction to that indicated in FIG. 2.
  • the scrolling is provided by the capstan roller 15, the driven roller 20 playing an auxiliary driving role.
  • the device according to the invention may include a downstream drive assembly of the so-called capstan type with winding (the band winding the capstan roller and being driven without sliding).
