Abstract

901,620. Automatic speed control systems. TOKYO SHIBAURA ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. Oct. 17, 1960 [Oct. 16, 1959], No. 35546/60. Class 38 (4). A rotatable head 13 for reproducing a video signal from magnetic tape 7 is connected to amplifier 19 which separates a synchronizing signal previously recorded on the tape. The synchronizing signal is then passed through amplifier 21 to a frequency discriminator 22 producing an output representing deviations of the frequency of the signal from a reference frequency. The error signal is amplified and then applied to the coil 18 of an eddy current brake which is coupled to the tape. This enables the head 13 to register correctly with bands recorded on the tape despite alterations in the length of the tape due to changing atmospheric conditions.
