Definitions

  • the present invention relates generally to electrical branch connectors having two jaws to be brought closer to one another under the control of clamping means and capable of defining between them at least two parallel channels, one for a first cable, or main cable, from which the required branch must be established, the other for a second cable, or branch cable, to be connected to the previous one.
  • clamping means normally provide undifferentiated closing simultaneously of one and the other of the channels, at least one of their jaws carrying at least one contact piece capable of interfering with one and the other of these channels, and therefore with one and the other of the cables which are disposed therein, by then establishing an electrical support between them.
  • branch connectors are generally known by the names of branch connector with parallel jaws or branch connector with non-separate branched cable (s).
  • Branch connectors of this type are notably described in the French patent which, filed on September 26, 1972 under No. 72 33992, was published under No. 2,155,349 as well as in the first French addition certificate which, filed on July 11, 1986 under No 86 10170 and published under No 2.601.516, is attached, by way of addition, to the French patent filed on June 15, 1984 under No 84 09384 and published under No 2.566.191.
  • each of the jaws of such a bypass connector simultaneously interests both of the parallel channels that these jaws define between them, at least one of these jaws must be capable of a relative tilting movement with respect to the other during their tightening, for their adaptation to the case, which is in practice the most frequent case, where the cables to be clamped have different diameters.
  • the clamping means of these jaws usually comprising at least one axis, or assembly axis, this axis passes through one of them thanks to an enlarged passage in which it can effectively tilt when tightening the 'together.
  • clamping means comprise, parallel to each other, two assembly axes.
  • This arrangement which has the advantage of leading to relatively economical embodiments, has, as a corollary, for disadvantage, leading to a relatively inconvenient, even difficult, installation on the electric cables to be connected, branch connectors which it concerned.
  • the present invention generally relates to a provision making it possible to facilitate these operations.
  • a shim for an electrical connector having two jaws to be brought closer to one another under the control of clamping means and capable of defining between them at least two parallel channels
  • this wedge being generally characterized in that, intended to temporarily keep at least partially open one of said channels, it comprises, for this purpose, stop means evanescent, that is to say means which, on the one hand, when tightening the connector, are capable of temporarily, but firmly, forming a stop, and which, on the other hand, are capable of yielding to the beyond a certain threshold, when the jaws are subject to sufficient stress on the part of the clamping means, so that the connector is clamped in two stages; it also relates to an electrical bypass connector with which such a shim is associated.
  • the shim thus implemented according to the invention can be in very diverse embodiments, both for the branch connectors to be installed directly as well as for those to be installed remotely, and it can form a piece independent of the connector bypass with which it is thus associated or form an integral part of it.
  • this wedge allows, advantageously, to operate, tightening, in two stages.
  • the evanescent abutment means that the shim according to the invention comprises then coming to yield, this tightening then concerns one and the other of the channels of the bypass connector, and the final tightening of the latter is thus carried out, on the main cable than on the branch cable.
  • the latter comprising evanescent abutment means, that is to say means which, on the one hand, are capable of forming, temporarily, but positively, an abutment, and which, on the other hand part, are, despite this, capable of yielding beyond a certain threshold, even when the connector is tightened, no specific operation is to be performed for the intervention of these abutment means, the only tightening of the connector sufficient to this intervention.
  • the shim 10 is, in general, intended for equipping an electrical bypass connector 11 having two jaws 12A, 12B, which are to be brought together on the other under the control of clamping means, detailed later, and which are capable of defining between them at least two parallel channels 13, 13 ′, one for a first cable 14, or main cable, the other for a second cable 14 ′, or branch cable, to be electrically connected to the previous one.
  • this electrical bypass connector 11 is of the type that is the subject of the first French addition certificate No. 2,601,516 mentioned above.
  • the jaws 12A, 12B each form, parallel to each other, two cradles 16A, 16′A, 16B, 16′B, that, for the electrical bridging to be carried out between the cables 14, 14 ′, at least one these jaws 12A, 12B, and in practice each of them, carries at least one metal contact piece 17A, 17B, and in practice, arranged parallel to each other, transversely to the channels 13, 13 ′ , two such metallic contact pieces 17A, 17B, that, on the side of the channel 13 ′, the jaws 12A, 12B each have, in parallel to one another, and parallel to the channels 13, 13 ′, a backsplash , respectively 18A, 18B, and that, in the embodiment shown, the clamping means associated with these jaws 12A, 12B comprise a single assembly axis 19, which, formed of a bolt 20 with head 21 and threaded barrel 22, and a nut 23, extends between the channels
