Description

Une solution similaire est décrite dans le document DE-1 099 773.The present invention relates to watch cases and more particularly boxes comprising a middle-bezel, a crystal fixed to the middle-bezel and a bell-shaped cap. This cap has a lower opening and an upper opening. Such boxes are known. Document GB-102,641 thus describes a box provided with a cap covering the middle part and comprising two handles. The cap is made integral with the rest of the box by engagement of the bracelet strands in the handles. A similar solution is described in document DE-1 099 773.

The disadvantages of such boxes make them unattractive. Indeed, as the cap is not fixed rigidly and securely, it is liable to move slightly on the middle. Even more, the risk of having the cap torn off cannot be completely eliminated. Furthermore, as the cap is fixed after the glass has been assembled to the rest of the box, it is practically impossible to avoid a crack between the glass and the cap, which is not only unattractive, but also forms a space for the inside of which waste can be introduced during wear. This slit also increases the risk of snagging. In this way, a watch thus equipped, quickly presents an unattractive appearance to say the least.

The object of the present invention is to remedy these drawbacks. More specifically, the box as claimed, makes it possible to fix the cap on the middle part of the bezel in a particularly rigid manner, the middle part of the bezel, the crystal and the cap forming a solid whole and therefore durable, and no longer an assembly , giving a cheap box a rapidly unsightly appearance.

The invention will be better understood on reading the description which follows, made with reference to the drawing which represents two embodiments of the invention. More precisely :
  • - Figures 1 and 2 each show a sectional view of a box according to a first embodiment of the invention, the sections passing through three hours and six hours respectively; and
  • - Figure 3 is a sectional view passing through nine o'clock, of a second embodiment of the invention.

The box shown in Figures 1 and 2 comprises a piece 10 of organic material, forming both a bottom 12, a middle part 14, a bezel 16 and horns 17 intended to fix a bracelet to the box. This box further comprises a glass 18 and a cap 20. The glass 18 and the part 10 are made of materials which can be welded together. The part 10 can for example be made of one of the materials usually designed by ABS, ASA or SAN. These materials correspond respectively to a styrene butadiene acrylic, to a styrene acrylic ester and to a styrene nitrile acryle. In this case, the glass is made of a transparent acrylic resin (PMMA) commonly known under the brand "plexiglass". The glass 18 comprises a lip 22 of cylindrical shape, engaged in a groove 24 of the portion forming the middle part 14. The end of the lip 22 and the bottom of the hole 24 together form a ring 26, made of an alloy of the materials of the glass 18 and the part 10. This ring 26 is produced during the ultrasonic welding of the glass 18 to the part 10, which causes the materials at the end of the lip 22 and the bottom of the groove 24 to merge. Such a method is described in particular in Swiss patent CH-650 894, and is known to the person skilled in the art. It will therefore not be described in more detail here.

More specifically, the heel 28 and the portion forming a bezel 16 define an annular groove 30 whose bottom and upper flank are defined respectively by the body of the lens 18 and the heel 28 while the lower flank is defined by the upper face of the bezel 16.

La différence entre D et d est de l'ordre de 0,5 à 1 mm.The cap 20 is made of metal, for example stainless steel or aluminum. It has the general shape of a bell, comprising in its upper part a substantially cylindrical opening, of diameter d less than the diameter D of the crystal and more particularly of its part 28 forming a heel. The thickness of the cap 20 is approximately 0.2 to 0.4 mm. The difference between D and d is of the order of 0.5 to 1 mm.

The upper edge 32 of the cap 20 is rigidly held between the heel 28 and the bezel 16, which positions the cap 20 axially and radially. Furthermore, the external shape of the middle part 14 not being defined by a surface of revolution, in particular because of the horns 17, the cap 20 is also positioned angularly. In this way, the part 10, the glass 18 and the cover 20 form a whole assembled rigidly and in a non-removable manner.

The middle part 14 shows a projection 33 in its lower part, of height equal to the thickness of the cap 20. As the manufacturing precision of both the cap 20 and the middle part 14 is great, the connection between the latter practically does not present no slits or thresholds. It is thus possible to avoid the accumulation of dirt and reduce the risk of snagging.

In the solution described with reference to Figures 1 and 2, the box is provided with a single cap. It is obvious that it could include an additional cap, interposed between the upper cap and the middle part, as shown in FIG. 3. In this figure, we can see the part 10 with the parts forming the bottom 12, middle part 14 , and bezel 16. We can also see the glass 18 with its heel 28, defining the groove 30 with the bezel 16, as well as the projection 33.

This box has two caps 34 and 36, both in the shape of a bell and fitted one into the other 36.

These caps each have an upper edge respectively bearing the references 38 and 40. These edges are both engaged in the groove 30. The caps are thus positioned axially and radially. The angular positioning is defined by the shape of the middle part 16 which, in particular because of the horns 17, has a shape other than that of a figure of revolution.

The outer cap 36 includes cutouts 42 through which the intermediate cap 34 is visible.

If the two caps are made of materials of different color or appearance, which allows original aesthetic effects.

It is thus possible to use stainless steel caps, one polished, the other sanded. If the caps are made of brass, one could be golden, the other rhodium-plated. By playing on the shape of the cutouts and on the appearance of the caps, it is possible to make many variations.

Other variants not shown can also be envisaged. Thus, the cap or caps may include cutouts revealing the underlying middle.

It is also possible to provide housings in the middle part, in which decorative pieces, for example stones, are positioned. They are fixed by the cap which has openings the edge of which rests on the periphery of these stones.

Rather than being welded, the glass could also be glued. The bonding can also be used to improve the fixing of the cap to the middle part and / or of the two superimposed caps.

In each of these examples, there are the essential advantages of the boxes according to the invention, namely a cap fixed firmly, practically without risk of snagging, as well as the absence of any gap between the glass and the cap.
