Claims (9)

  1. A steam iron comprising a water reservoir (1), a vaporization chamber (3) heated by the electric resistance (4) of the iron soleplate (5), and a water distribution chamber (6) communicating with the reservoir (1) and comprising means (7) for allowing the water in said chamber (6) to flow into the vaporization chamber (3), to soleplate (5) being formed with orifices (9) for the passage of the steam produced in the vaporization chamber, characterised in that it comprises a device (10) sensitive to the pressure of the steam contained in the vaporization chamber (3) and acting on the pressure of the water contained in the distribution chamber (6) to increase said water pressure when the pressure of the steam increases.

An iron according to claim 1, characterised in that the pressure-sensitive device (10) comprises a member (11) which is movable in response to an increase in the pressure of the steam formed in the vaporization chamber (3), such member (11) being mounted movably in a water-filled compartment (12) communicating with the water distribution chamber (6).
  3. 3. An iron according to claim 2, characterised in that the water-filled compartment (12) is situated between the water reservoir (1) and the vaporization chamber (3), said water reservoir communicating with said compartment (12) through a non-return valve (14).
  4. 4. An iron according to claim 2 or 3, characterised in that the member (10) and the water compartment (12) are so dimensioned that movement of the member (10) produces inside the water compartment (12) a water pressure greater than the pressure of the steam formed in the vaporization chamber (3).
  5. 5. An iron according to any one of claims 2 to 4, characterised in that the top wall (15) of the vaporization chamber (3) comprises an aperture (16) in which an elastic diaphragm (17) is fixed in sealing-tight relationship, in that the bottom wall (18) of the water compartment (12) has an aperture (19) situated opposite the elastic diaphragm (17), in which aperture the top edge of an elastic bellows (11) is fixed in sealing-tight relationship, the edge of the bellows remote from the aperture (19) of the compartment (12) bearing on the diaphragm (17).
  6. 6. An iron according to claim 5, characterised in that the surface of the diaphragm (17) is larger than the section of the bellows (11).
  7. 7. An iron according to claim 5 or 6, characterised in that a substantially dish-shaped rigid element (20) is interposed between the bottom of the bellows (11) and the elastic diaphragm (17).
  8. 8. An iron according to any of claims 5 to 7, characterised in that the edge of the aperture of the top wall (15) of the vaporization chamber (3) comprises a curled edge (16a) to which the edge of the diaphragm (17) is secured.
  9. 9. An iron according to claim 7 or 8, characterised in that the dish-shaped element (20) has a peripheral collar (20a) which bears on the edge of the diaphragm (17).
