The channel also contains a powerful light (10) which is located immediately below the cover, and the cover is made from a transparent material so that the light shines through it into the jets of water. The lower end of the channel has a perforated base (8) which is surmounted by a rotor (9) driven by the pump. The float itself is made from a rigid housing filled with a material such as a polyurethane foam.

Description

The invention relates to a light fountain which will find its application in particular in the decorative field to be placed in a basin in order to create a decorative illuminated water jet.

If the fountains have lost their primary role as a water point, they are still present in many places as a decorative element. In this context, their magnificence manifests itself in the form of a projection of water jet at great height. The geometry of the different water jets can be arranged to form a harmonious whole. Depending on the orientation of each of the pressurized water ejection nozzles, it is possible to bloom more or less the sheaves. In some cases, it is also possible to modulate the water ejection pressure to modify the height of the jet.

The collective equipment fountains are generally of the fixed type, that is to say that they comprise a basin at the center of which are placed water spray nozzles supplied by a pumping station which supplies itself in the basin. Thus, the assembly rotates in a closed circuit and only the water losses have to be compensated.

The nocturnal illumination of the fountain is generally ensured by means of projectors placed at the bottom of the basin or outside and which are directed towards the water jets. This arrangement is satisfactory because, if the entire fountain is lit, the basin constitutes an important decorative element which does not harm the aesthetics of the whole. A global illumination is therefore acceptable even if the defining element of a fountain is more especially the set of water sprays.

In a private setting, the realization of fountains is rare because very expensive. Indeed, it is first necessary to have a large surface pool to collect the projected water and the cost of such a construction is hardly compatible with the limited opportunities to offer its performance. It should also be noted in this regard that it is during evening invitations that the spectacle of a light fountain could be most appreciated.

The manufacturers of fountains have developed mobile equipment intended to be immersed in swimming pools. The solution offers many advantages, first of all, the swimming pool basin can be perfectly used for traditional nautical pleasures. No transformation or modification for an adaptation to the fountain is necessary. The conventional dimensions of a swimming pool are ideal for collecting water splashes.

These mobile fountains are formed by a float supporting a submerged pump which directs the pressurized water to a fountain nozzle. The whole is supplied by an electric cable crossing the basin.

To allow nocturnal illuminations, the buoy is also equipped with a projector fixed near the nozzle and which is directed towards the sheaves of water. Several drawbacks are linked to this construction technique. In particular, the lighting does not focus on splashing water but there is diffusion and, for example, the pumping device is visible as well as the bottom of the pool, which affects the aesthetics of the together.

The projector is not protected and if the fountain is handled without care, there is a risk of damage. These risks are all the more serious if there is a break in the watertightness of the projector, and the latter is directly supplied by the mains voltage, there is a danger of electric shock. Then, this arrangement requires regular maintenance of the projector in particular to remove the formation of foam which tends to cover it.

Although significant progress has been made with the development of mobile fountains, the auxiliary lighting device nevertheless raises some problems both in its operation and in the decorative effect it provides.

The main object of the present invention is to present a light fountain in which there is total cooperation of the lighting device with the pumping mechanism to form a harmonious whole.

In particular, the lighting is localized at the level of water sprays without any diffusion of light in the basin or in the organs of the fountain.

Special light effects can be produced by direct injection of light beams into the flow liquid.

Another object of the present invention is to present a light fountain which has great operational safety. The projector is fully incorporated in the fountain which forms a rampart and shelters it from external mechanical actions. In addition, special precautions are taken with regard to the electrical supply to the fountain to avoid any risk of electric shock.

The light fountain requires no maintenance, particularly with regard to cleaning the projector. A self-cleaning phenomenon is created to avoid any formation of foam on its surface, which would adversely affect the power of light emission.

The manufacturing technique used to build the light fountain of the present invention makes it possible to obtain a high quality and efficient product, this with a moderate manufacturing cost in order to allow a wide distribution of the product.

Other objects and advantages of the present invention will appear during the following description which is given only for information.

The light fountain intended to be placed in a basin to create a decorative illuminated water jet, which includes a float connected to an energy source by a cable, a pump which pumps water into a vein terminated by a perforated nozzle and a lighting projector, is characterized in that the projector is arranged in the liquid stream in the immediate vicinity of the nozzle.

The invention will be better understood on reading the following description accompanied by attached drawings, among which:
  • FIG. 1 shows diagrammatically, in section view, the light fountain according to a preferred embodiment of the invention,
  • FIG. 2 represents the light fountain in top view,
  • FIG. 3 shows diagrammatically, in section view, the internal constitution of the projector,
  • FIG. 4 represents the particular shape of the flanges used in the construction of the projector of FIG. 3.

The present invention relates to a light fountain intended to be placed in a basin to create illuminated water jets decorative.

The spectacle offered by a fountain is highly sought after ornamentally, which explains why many places have it.

Traditional fixed installations include a catchment basin for water projected by a nozzle supplied by a pumping station. This fixed design is perfectly suited to public works. On the other hand, in a private setting, the necessary dimensions of the pond are hardly compatible with the traditional extent of the gardens.

The fountain manufacturers have developed autonomous devices intended to be immersed, for example, in a swimming pool in order to transform the latter into a fountain basin. The advantage is that the operation is reversible and can be carried out very quickly. No transformation of the pool is necessary and even a shallow depth is suitable.

These stand-alone fountains include a float supporting a pump which draws water from the basin and delivers it to one or more ejection nozzles. The fountain is supplied by an external energy source by means of a cable.

To liven up the evenings, customers often ask the builders to add lighting to illuminate the spray of water. Manufacturers are therefore required to equip their float with an auxiliary projector directed upwards which illuminates the various water jets from the bottom.

Several drawbacks are linked to this lighting technique. First of all, the light rays coming from the projector do not concentrate on the water jets but scatter the light on the environment. Then, the projector is not mechanically protected against external shocks and during handling, it can easily be damaged.

Finally, there is very often a phenomenon of development of green foam on the surface of the projector which must be maintained regularly to maintain its characteristics.

The light diffusion is undoubtedly the most important defect because it makes the spectacle lose contrast. In addition, the swimming pool basin is partially lit, which constitutes a handicap since, in this function of fountain, it plays a technical and not an artistic role.

The present invention specifically proposes to provide a solution to these various problems by means of a particular arrangement of the various members.

Figure 1 shows schematically, in sectional view, the light fountain 1 produced according to a preferred mode of construction. The light fountain 1 comprises a float 2 intended to hold the whole of the fountain 1 on the surface of the basin in which it is immersed.

The float 2 is connected to an external electrical energy source by means of a cable 3. This cable 3 also ensures the ballasting of the float 2 and its anchoring in the center of the basin.

The fountain 1 also comprises a pump 4. This pump 4 is placed in a sheath 5 inside the float 2 which is crossed vertically by the sheath 5. The pump 4 draws water from the base of the float 2 and discharges it into the sheath 5 upward to create a pressurized liquid vein. The sheath 5 is terminated at its upper part by a perforated nozzle 6. The perforations 7 of the nozzle create as many water jets and act as ejection nozzles. Depending on the arrangement and orientation of the perforations 7, the development and the shape of the spray of water are modified. The perforated nozzle 6 is machined according to the desired aesthetic effect.

The suction of water at the base of the float 2 is done through orifices 8 which protect the turbine 9 of the pump 4 against the introduction of hard foreign bodies.

In addition, the light fountain 1 includes a built-in lighting projector 10. This projector 10 is disposed in the liquid stream 11 at the center of the sheath 5 in the immediate vicinity of the perforated nozzle 6. This particular arrangement provides a spectacular effect. Indeed, the light rays are trapped within the very spray of water, which provides a unique contrast. Unlike the annoyance caused by the use of an external projector, according to the invention, only the water jets are illuminated, no stray lighting appears.

The direction of the light rays coming from the optics of the projector 10 must correspond substantially to the axial direction of the perforations 7 of the nozzle 6, this to allow the light rays to be channeled in the water jets.

De préférence, les axes des perforations 7 de l'ajutage 6 doivent être orientés et concourrants avec le foyer de l'optique du projecteur 10.Preferably, the axes of the perforations 7 of the nozzle 6 must be oriented and concurrent with the focal point of the headlight optics 10.

It is also possible to use a transparent nozzle 6 to enhance the illumination of the spray of water. By taking for example a tinted plastic material for the manufacture of the nozzle 6, it is possible to create color phenomena since the light rays passing directly through the nozzle through the perforations 7 are not filtered unlike those which pass through the nozzle 6.

The float 2 is of annular shape as illustrated in FIG. 2 in plan view, it is crossed in its central part by the sheath 5. The float 2 has an external profile in the form of a double inverted truncated cone. The water level must substantially reach the point where the two truncated cones meet. This particular geometric shape provides good vertical flotation stability to the fountain 1. It is not very sensitive to wind and small waves.

With regard to the mechanical construction of the fountain, all of the internal members, whether it is the pump 4 or the projector 10, are fixed on tie rods 12. These tie rods 12 bear on the lower part directly on the shell 13 of the float 2. At the upper part, the tie rods 12 are supported on the perforated nozzle 6 which is thus applied against the sheath 5.

The sheath 5 does not apply directly to the shell 13 of the float 2 in the lower part of the fountain 1, but a suction flange 14 is interposed in the bottom of the shell 13. The pump 4 is centered on the flange 14 via the diffuser 23, the role of which is also to guide the streams of water leaving the turbine 9 towards the liquid stream 11.

The interior volume of the shell 13 arranged around the sheath 5 is filled with foam such as polyurethane foam for example.

The centering of the headlight 10 is automatically ensured since it rests on the same tie rods 11 which are used for fixing the perforated nozzle 6.

This comprises a sealed compartment 15 which contains the headlamp optics 26. The compartment 15 is formed by an outer ferrule 27 pinched between two flanges 17 and 18 applied towards each other by means of nuts 19 placed on the tie rods. The flange 18 is perforated and a glass 20 is interposed between the flange 18 and the ferrule 27 to allow the passage of light rays from the optics 26. Two elastomer seals 24, 25 seal between the ferrule 27 on the one hand and the flange 17 on the other hand and ice 20.

Un presse-étoupe étanche 21 relié à un câble électrique qui traverse le flasque 17 assure l'alimentation du dispositif d'éclairage de l'optique 26.A sealed cable gland 21 connected to an electric cable which passes through the flange 17 supplies the lighting device for the optics 26.

In the case where a set of three tie rods 12 is used to secure the various members, preferably, the shape of the flanges is profiled according to a triangular geometry as illustrated in FIG. 4 for the flange 18 so as to facilitate the liquid flow around the projector. Similarly, if four tie rods were used, the shape of the flanges would be profiled with four lobes.

The electric motor of the pump 4 and of the projector 10 is supplied by a cable 3 connected to the fountain 1 by means of a sealed coaxial connector 22 as illustrated in FIG. 1. This connector 22 allows the cable 3 to be disconnected when the fountain 1 is not in use. Preferably, the voltage used to supply the pump 4 and the projector 10 is very low, of the order of 12 volts, which eliminates any risk of electrocution accident even in the event of bursting of the bulb or accidental water inlet.

The projector 10 is entirely sheltered from external mechanical attack. In addition, the glass 20 is constantly washed by the circulation of water, which prevents the formation of opaque foam as is traditionally encountered with exterior projectors. No cleaning is necessary, which facilitates the maintenance of the assembly.

Other implementations of the present invention, within the reach of ordinary skill in the art, could also have been envisaged without departing from the scope thereof.
