Definitions
- the present invention relates to a Velcro zipper according to the preamble of patent claim 1, a flexible band provided with such a closure, and a use of the flexible band.
- a Velcro zipper has two flat closure parts, each of which has a pile, and which, when brought into contact with one another with slight pressure, adhere to one another.
- the locking parts brought into mutual engagement are able to withstand very considerable forces insofar as they run approximately parallel to their surface.
- the two closure parts can then be separated from one another again by lifting them off.
- Velcro zippers There are two types of Velcro zippers. In one type, for example in the one known under the brand name "Velcro", one closure part has a pile which consists exclusively of hooks and the other closure part has a pile which consists exclusively of loops. In the other type of Velcro zippers, both fastener parts have a pile that has both hooks and loops.
- the invention now relates to a Velcro zipper of one type or the other.
- the pile of the fastener parts is a relatively delicate element.
- the hooks which consist of a monofilament, can permanently deform under repeated pressure, for example against a hard surface.
- the loops of the loop pile can also be flattened over time on the relevant base fabric. In both cases, such "aging" phenomena mean that the two closure parts gradually become less grippy and do not adhere sufficiently to one another over time. The same applies if a Velcro fastener, the fastener parts of which are in engagement with one another, is exposed to pressure for a prolonged period.
- the proposed Velcro zipper has the features specified in the characterizing part of claim 1.
- the flexible band provided with such a Velcro zipper is defined in claim 6, while the use of such a band is described in claim 10.
- the Velcro zipper according to the invention can be used wherever Velcro zippers have been used so far. This applies in particular to the clothing industry, including the shoe industry.
- the Velcro zipper according to the invention opens up further areas of application which were previously not considered practical, for example the interchangeable attachment of an outsole to the insole of a shoe, or the releasable attachment of a base of a heavy device at a specific point. It should also be noted - as already mentioned at the beginning that the invention also extends to those Velcro zippers in which both closure parts have the same type of pile, namely a pile which has both loops and hooks.
- the Velcro zipper shown in FIGS. 1-5 is attached to a flexible band 11, for example by sewing or gluing. It has two closure parts 11 (Fig. 2) and 12 (Fig. 3). Both closure parts have a base fabric 13 which is provided with a pile. In the case of the closure part 11, this is a hook pile 14 in this example and a loop pile 15 in the closure part 12. However, the pile of both closure parts does not cover the entire width of the base fabric 13 but is divided into two pile sections 14a, 14b and 15a, 15b, respectively, which the two Cover edge areas of the base fabric 13. Between the pile sections 14a, 14b and 15a, 15b, a band-shaped spacer 16 is attached to the base fabric 13, for example wise by gluing.
- the spacer 16 is made of a pressure-resistant material and consists for example of a solid and flexible plastic band.
- the spacer 16 has a thickness which is slightly smaller than the associated pile 14 or 15. In the present case, the spacer is smaller by the amount than the associated pile 14 or 15, that is sufficient to bring the pile of the two closure parts into sufficient engagement with one another (cf. also FIG. 12).
- the closure part 11 is fastened to one side, leaving a rounded band tongue 17 (FIG. 4) near the end of the band 10.
- the closure part 12 is fastened at a distance from the closure part 11 on the other side of the band 10.
- the closure part 11 is also considerably shorter than the closure part 12. The reason for this arrangement (which is not shown to scale in FIG. 1), as will be shown, will be seen in the preferred use of the band 10.
- the spacer 16 in the closure part 11 is longer than the pile sections 14a, 14b and protrudes beyond these pile sections at both ends.
- the end regions 16 'of the spacer 16 in both Fig. 4 and Fig. 5 are chamfered, that is, of continuously decreasing thickness, so that they do not end in one step.
- the strip 10 shown can thus be wound up with the closure parts 11 and 12, for example, on a supply reel without substantial discontinuities.
- FIG. 6 If one observes FIG. 6, one recognizes a winding 20, indicated only schematically, of flat structures wound on a winding core 21 with the aid of the band 10 as a winding band in a scale formation (not shown in FIG. 6, designated 22 in FIG. 13).
- the winding tape 10 was drawn off from a supply roll 23 during the winding-up process and passed between a pair of rolls 24 braked here to the roll 20.
- the path of the winding tape 10 is indicated by the dash-dotted line 25.
- the sheet 20 is no longer supplied with flat structures and the winding tape 10 has already wrapped around the roll 20 at least once more.
- the closure part 12 is fastened on the winding tape 10 on the side facing away from the winding 20 and has a length which exceeds that of the winding circumference.
- the closure part 11 is fastened on the side of the winding tape 10 facing the winding 20, so that only the end of the winding tape 10 visible in FIG. 6 is to be placed on the previously wound additional turn and pressed lightly, and the entire winding 20 is fixed .
- the side view of the winding 20 fixed with the winding tape 10 according to FIG. 10 shows that the tape tongue 17 at the end of the winding tape 10 remote from the winding core is stiffened by the extension 16 'of the spacer 16 via the closure part 11 (FIG. 2) and therefore protrudes from the winding circumference.
- the band tongue 17 thus forms a convenient handle for separating the closure parts 11 and 12 from one another.
- FIG. 11 shows that the length of the pile sections 15a and 15b of the closure part 12 (FIG. 5) far exceeds that of the closure part 11, which is not visible here. Part of the pile sections 15a and 15b is therefore freely accessible from the outside. But even if the winding 20 is supported or draw on its circumference on the ground would roll, these pile sections 15a, 15b would not be damaged, because the spacer 16 arranged between them largely keeps the compressive stress emanating from the weight of the roll 20 away from the pile sections 15a, 15b.
- FIG. 13 shows another advantageous property of the winding tape described here, for example, or of the spacers present between the pile sections 15a, 15b and the pile sections 14a and 14b.
- the spacers 16, which - in the present example - as mentioned - consist of a solid but flexible plastic band and at their ends 16 '(see FIGS. 4 and 5) have a continuously decreasing thickness, form an ideal slip for a flat, spatula-like tool 28, with which the process of releasing the Velcro zipper can be initiated without damaging the pile sections.
- closure part 12 provided with the loop pile sections 15a and 15b is longer than the closure part 11 provided with the hook pile sections 14a, 14b, it is of course also possible to make both closure parts 11, 12 of the same length, or the closure part 11 with loop pile and to provide the closure part 12 with hook pile.
- the arrangement of the spacer (s) 16 is also adapted to the intended use in the example described.
- two spacer strips could also be attached to the edge regions of the band 10 and the space between these spacer strips could be occupied by a single pile section.
- both closure parts are of equal size, round or square and are to be anchored on a firm, flat substrate, it is advantageous to provide a spacer strip in the edge area along the entire circumference of the closure parts, which strip can optionally be supplemented by a further spacer in the middle, while the area left free by the circumferential spacer strip is to be covered with one (or more) pile section.
Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to a Velcro zipper according to the preamble of patent claim 1, a flexible band provided with such a closure, and a use of the flexible band. As is known, a Velcro zipper has two flat closure parts, each of which has a pile, and which, when brought into contact with one another with slight pressure, adhere to one another. The locking parts brought into mutual engagement are able to withstand very considerable forces insofar as they run approximately parallel to their surface. The two closure parts can then be separated from one another again by lifting them off.
There are two types of Velcro zippers. In one type, for example in the one known under the brand name "Velcro", one closure part has a pile which consists exclusively of hooks and the other closure part has a pile which consists exclusively of loops. In the other type of Velcro zippers, both fastener parts have a pile that has both hooks and loops. The invention now relates to a Velcro zipper of one type or the other.
In the known Velcro zippers, the pile of the fastener parts is a relatively delicate element. In particular, the hooks, which consist of a monofilament, can permanently deform under repeated pressure, for example against a hard surface. The loops of the loop pile can also be flattened over time on the relevant base fabric. In both cases, such "aging" phenomena mean that the two closure parts gradually become less grippy and do not adhere sufficiently to one another over time. The same applies if a Velcro fastener, the fastener parts of which are in engagement with one another, is exposed to pressure for a prolonged period.
It is therefore an object of the invention to improve a Velcro zipper of the type mentioned at the outset in such a way that the pile of both closure parts, whether in the released state or in mutual engagement, remains largely protected against excessive pressure, so that the pile does not suffer any damage.
To solve this problem, the proposed Velcro zipper has the features specified in the characterizing part of claim 1.
The flexible band provided with such a Velcro zipper is defined in claim 6, while the use of such a band is described in
Advantageous embodiments of the Velcro zipper are described in the dependent claims 2 to 5 and the tape in the dependent claims 7 to 9.

Even if the invention is described below on the basis of a flexible band and in particular one which is used as a winding band for windings made of flat structures, for example prints reiproducts such as newspapers, it is understood that the Velcro zipper according to the invention can be used wherever Velcro zippers have been used so far. This applies in particular to the clothing industry, including the shoe industry. In addition, the Velcro zipper according to the invention opens up further areas of application which were previously not considered practical, for example the interchangeable attachment of an outsole to the insole of a shoe, or the releasable attachment of a base of a heavy device at a specific point. It should also be noted - as already mentioned at the beginning that the invention also extends to those Velcro zippers in which both closure parts have the same type of pile, namely a pile which has both loops and hooks.
The Velcro zipper shown in FIGS. 1-5 is attached to a
As can be seen in FIGS. 2 and 3, the
If one observes FIG. 6, one recognizes a winding 20, indicated only schematically, of flat structures wound on a winding
The same happens when the
In the section of Fig. 8 shows that the
It can be seen from FIG. 9 that when the winding
The side view of the winding 20 fixed with the winding
The front view of FIG. 11 shows that the length of the
Finally, FIG. 13 shows another advantageous property of the winding tape described here, for example, or of the spacers present between the
The
While in the example described the
The arrangement of the spacer (s) 16 is also adapted to the intended use in the example described.
For the same purpose, two spacer strips could also be attached to the edge regions of the
If the closure parts of the proposed Velcro zipper are to be given a shape deviating from the elongated shape due to the intended use, the shape of the spacers and the pile sections must also be adapted to the intended use. If, for example, both closure parts are of equal size, round or square and are to be anchored on a firm, flat substrate, it is advantageous to provide a spacer strip in the edge area along the entire circumference of the closure parts, which strip can optionally be supplemented by a further spacer in the middle, while the area left free by the circumferential spacer strip is to be covered with one (or more) pile section.
