- the invention relates to a fire, particularly a gas fire, adapted for reception into a recess in a chimney body, comprising an outer casing, a separate hearth unit adapted to be slid through the open front of the casing and a flue gas circulation box provided with a squall-diverter, said box engaging with a flat portion between the upper wall of the casing and the upper surface of the hearth unit when the hearth unit is slid in and then connects on the one hand with a flue gas outlet of the hearth unit and on the other hand communicates through an aperture in the upper wall of the casing with a pipe in the chimney channel opening into the top of the recess.
- Such fires are generally used for replacing "open hearths" bricked up in a chimney body.
- the removal of the open hearth to be replaced results in a recess into which the outer casing of the new fire is positioned and secured.
- the design is such that the flue gas circulation box first has to be placed on the hearth unit and thereafter is slid integrated with the hearth unit into the outer casing which has been placed before.
- An onerous problem therewith constitutes the provision of a gas tight connection of the flue gas circulation box with the pipe in the chimney channel.
- the pipe provided at its lower end with a flange, is slid into the chimney channel through such distance that the lower end thereof does not hinder the sliding in of the outer casing.
- the outer casing After the outer casing has been placed one lowers the pipe with its flange onto the upper wall of the casing. Thereafter the flange has to be screwed to the upper wall of the outer casing around the aperture therein, by means of self tapping screws.

- the horizontal portion of the flue gas circulation box merges at the back into a portion extending downwardly through part of the height of the outer casing, said portion being provided with a horizontally extending connecting sleeve for a likewise horizontally extending flue gas outlet of the hearth unit, the flue gas circulation box and the pipe constituting a separate unit, the arrangement being such that this unit is adapted to be moved upwardly in the casing from the front and lower part thereof and that the pipe thereby may be entered into the aperture in the upper wall of the outer casing from a lower level upwardly.

- the flue gas circulation box 5 has a flat horizontal portion 12 which is open at the front end (to the right in the drawing) and at the back is connected to a vertical portion 14 through a slanting transitional portion 13.
- the vertical portion 14 comprises at the front a horizontally extending connecting pipe section 15 for the the likewise horizontally extending flue gas outlet 16 of the hearth unit which will be described below.
- the box For securing the box 5 within the casing 1 the box is provided at both sides with a connecting tab 17.
- the connecting tabs 17 correspond with supporting tabs 18 provided in the casing 1 and may be secured thereto by means of screws 19.
- the horizontal portion 12 of the box 5 has a vertically extending discharge pipe section 20 to which a discharge pipe 21 formed as a flexible tube of e.g. stainless steel is secured through a pipe clamp 22.
- Reference number 23 denotes schematically a so called squall-diverter which diverts the air flowing downwardly through the pipe 22 in case a downwardly directed wind gust occurs, towards the front of the horizontal portion 13 of the flue gas circulation box.

- the casing 4 is positioned in the recess 3 and secured if necessary. Thereafter the flue gas circulation box 5 is positioned, namely by raising it in the casing in a somewhat backwardly tilted position from the front end from below, such that the discharge pipe 21 is passed through the aperture 8 (having ample dimensions).
- a mounting support extending from the backwall 9 of the casing facilitates thereafter securing the box 5 in the casing by screwing together the tabs 17 and 18.
- the assembly may be completed in a simple manner by sliding the flue gas collecting box 6b and the hearth 6a as a unit, i.e. after previously the box 6b has been placed with its connecting pipe sections 26 on the outlet pipe sections of the hearth 6a from the front into the casing 4 whereby the outlet pipe section 16 slides into the connecting pipe section 15.
- Fig. 2 shows that the slanting transitional part 13 of the flue gas circulation box 5, the slanting portion 27 of the flue gas collecting box 6b and the slanting backwall 24 of the hearth 6a have equal gradients and that channels 29 and 30 are provided between said parts.
- Said channels originate in the chamber 31 below and behind the hearth and at the upper end merge with a horizontal channel 32 between the horizontal portion 12 of the circulation box 5 and the upper wall 33 of the hearth 6a, said channel opening at the front through a grid 33a in the room to be heated.
- (Cold) air may be induced from the front from below along both sides of the centrally placed burner block 35 by a blower 34 positioned in the chamber 31 and may be blown through the channels 29, 30 and 32.
- the air is heated in the channels 29, 30 and 32 by the walls delimiting said channels so that at the front hot air is blown through the grid 33a.
- the air flow is indicated by arrows shown by dot and dash lines, the flow arrows for the combustion air being indicated by broken lines and the flue gas flow being indicated by fully drawn arrows.
