Definitions

  • the invention relates to display devices of the type in which the information is displayed on a flat screen, the type of information to be displayed being selected by the operator.
  • the visualization of information such as the variables and operating parameters of the various on-board equipment is carried out by means of traditional instruments such as graduated dials, counters, displays, etc., but also , increasingly, by images obtained using cathode ray tubes, plasma screens, light emitting diodes, light emitting panels or liquid crystal.
  • image display devices make it possible to present several parameters on the same surface, either simultaneously or successively, or even at the operator's request, which reduces the number of traditional instruments on the dashboard. .
  • image devices also have the advantage of being able to be placed at a distant distance, on the one hand, from the apparatuses of which they display the parameters and, on the other hand, from electronic circuits which control the development of the images and / or display of information, which facilitates its placement in the place best suited for the operator.
  • An object of the invention is therefore to provide a flat screen display device which allows the operator to select only the type of information he wishes to display, for example that relating to the engine or that relating to the hydraulic circuits. , etc., by pressing one of the keys associated with the screen, each key corresponding to a certain kind of information.
  • Another object of the invention is then to provide a flat screen display device in which the number of selection keys does not constitute a limitation of the display possibilities of said device, this by providing several meanings per key, meanings which are successively displayed on the screen at the operator's request.
  • Another object of the invention is therefore to produce a flat screen display device in which an emergency operating mode is provided.
  • the volume available in the aircraft close to the pilot to have such a display device is low.
  • Another object of the invention is to provide a flat screen display device which is compact.
  • This separation of the displays and of the corresponding control circuits is provided so that the device has two operating modes, one said to be normal during which the information is only displayed by the liquid crystal matrix and the other said to be emergency during which information is only displayed by the first dedicated liquid crystal part.
  • FIG. 1 shows, on the one hand, the various elements which constitute a display device according to the present invention and, on the other hand, their assembly together. It includes a chassis 1 which serves to support elements 2 to 11 as well as electronic circuits arranged on printed circuit boards 12, 13 and 14.
  • the chassis 1 has a bottom 15 secured to a base 11 which is used for fixing the display device.
  • the bottom 15 serves as a centerpiece to a rigid parallelepiped structure made using spacers 16 and separation plates formed by the printed circuits 13 and 14. These spacers 16 can end in threaded rods such as those referenced 17 or tapped holes (not shown) so as to allow rigid assembly of the various elements together.
  • the threaded rods 17 have a sufficient length to allow the threading, for their support, of a lighting plate 2, seals 3 and 6, a flange 5 and a bezel 7.
  • the flange 5 surrounds a flat screen 4 formed by liquid crystals and serves as a support.
  • the bezel 7, provided with a glass plate (not shown) accommodates the six keys 9 of a keyboard 18, the support 8 of which is constituted by a printed circuit. Nuts such as that referenced 20 are screwed onto the threaded rods 17 so as to fix the elements 2 to 8 on the chassis 1.
  • the chassis 1 containing the printed circuit boards 12 to 14 and supporting the elements 2 to 9 is introduced into a cover 10 which provides protection. This gives a relatively small display device, for example 188mm x 165mm on the front and 230mm in depth.
  • the front face of the display device according to the invention will now be described in relation to FIG. 2. It consists of the bezel 7 inside which appears the liquid crystal screen 4.
  • This screen is divided, from the point view of the type of crystals, in two distinct parts, an upper part 21 consisting of dedicated liquid crystals and a lower part 22 consisting of non-dedicated liquid crystals which are arranged in matrix form, the latter occupying most of the screen .
  • the upper part only allows viewing of a certain number of figures defined by construction, for example the alphanumeric characters in the case of FIG. 2.
  • This upper part is itself divided into two parts, one assigned to information relating for example to one of the two engines of an aircraft and the other to those relating to the second engine.
  • This upper part is reserved for displaying information in emergency mode, during which the other part of the screen is not used.
  • the bottom 24 of this part 22 is assigned to the display of the meaning of the keys 9 of the keyboard 18, keys which are arranged in the frame 23 of the bezel 7. It is then understood that one can visualize easily the different meanings of each of the keys 4 according to the needs of the operator.
  • the lower part 22 does not display any information while the upper part 21 gives indications presented only with alphanumeric characters, these indications corresponding to all or part of those of the lower part 22.
  • the information which is displayed in the upper part 21 is that of the speed of the turbines (34000 and 34100 rpm) and their temperature (640 ° C and 645 ° C).
  • the screen can display information resulting from a processing of the parameters, for example an indication of correct operation or of fault.
  • the general layout of the electronic circuits which are necessary to display the measurements and parameters of the different elements of an aircraft is given by the diagram in FIG. 3.
  • the measurements and the parameters are first formatted, in particular coded in digital form, in a data concentrator circuit 30.
  • the signals supplied by the concentrator 30 are then processed in control circuits 32 and 33 which elaborate the signals to be applied to the dedicated liquid crystals 21 as regards the circuit 33 and to the non-dedicated liquid crystal matrix 22 as well as to the keyboard 18 as regards the circuit 32.
  • connection 31 can be provided to a second data concentrator (not shown) which is part of a second display device, which achieves redundancy, therefore increased operational safety.
  • This arrangement makes it possible to display in the first display device information which is normally displayed by the second and vice versa, this in particular in the event of failure of one of the two display devices.
  • the data concentrator 30 will not be described in more detail since the various circuits which compose it are known elsewhere. The same applies to the control circuit 33 for dedicated liquid crystals 21.
  • the control circuit 32 for the non-dedicated liquid crystal matrix 22 is described below in detail using FIGS. 4 and 5.
  • the control circuit 32 comprises a symbol generator 35 which receives the signals from the data concentrator 30, a program memory 36, two image memories 37 and 38, an interface circuit 39 with respect to the matrix liquid crystal 22, a decoding circuit 40 of the key of the pressed keyboard associated with a state memory circuit 41 of the keys of said keyboard, an OR circuit 42 whose inputs are connected to the keys of the keyboard, a link circuit bi -directional 43 of the serial type connected to the second data concentrator mentioned above, a clock circuit 44 supplying synchronization signals to the memories 37 and 38 and to the interface circuit 39 and a demultiplexer circuit 45 arranged, on the one hand between the generator of symbols 35, and, on the other part, elements 36, 37, 38, 40, 42 and 43.
  • the memories 37 and 38 are of the random access type and in fact each comprise two memories, one A of large size, for example 256,000 bytes of memory and the other B of smaller capacity, for example 256 memory points but capable of operating at very high speed.
  • the memory A is used to record, in digital form, the image to be displayed on the matrix 22 while the memory B is used to transfer, in serial form, the information constituting the image recorded in the memory A.
  • the manner in which the information is transferred from memory B to the interface circuit 39 and is processed in said circuit 39 will be explained in relation to the description of FIG. 5.
  • the two memories 37 and 38 are necessary to obtain several intensities in each of the fundamental colors red, green, blue in the case of a color screen. With two memories, four different intensities can be obtained depending on the value 0 or 1 of the two binary digits which constitute the color intensity information. Each memory 37 or 38 therefore records the same image to be displayed but with a specific value for its intensity for each color point.
  • the operation of the circuit of FIG. 4 is then as follows.
  • the symbol generator 35 records part A of memories 37 and 38 an image to be displayed on the liquid crystal matrix or more exactly records for each point of red, green or blue color its intensity.
  • the memories 37 and 38 are read in synchronism and the binary digits read in A are recorded in the memory B.
  • the content of each memory B is then transferred into the interface circuit 39 in serial form at the rate of the pulses supplied by the clock circuit 44.
  • the clock pulses are also applied to the interface circuit 39 to perform certain functions which will be described in relation to FIG. 5 and to the liquid crystal matrix 22 for successively selecting the points of the matrix.
  • left (G) and right (D) we select, for example for each line first the points of odd order, then the points of order peer.
  • the interface circuit 39 in FIG. 4 comprises two shift registers 50 and 51, two multiplexing circuits 52 and 53, a memory 54, and a control circuit 60.
  • the liquid crystal matrix 22 divided into two parts G and D and its addressing registers 55 to 58 of the double type.
  • the shift registers 50 and 51 and the multiplexer circuits 52 and 53 have the role, in combination with the memory 54, of reordering the information contained in the memories 37 and 38 so as to allow the display of the image on the liquid crystal matrix 22 by left or right half and by points of even or odd order.
  • each shift register 50 and 51 comprises sixteen positions
  • each demultiplexer circuit 52 and 53 is of the 4/1 type
  • the memory 54 comprises eight registers 61 to 68 to 189 positions each in the case where the number of points per line, that is to say columns of the matrix 22 is 756.
  • the number of positions of each of the address registers 55 to 58 is also 189.
  • the contents of the memories B are transferred in series by packet of sixteen digits in the associated shift register 50 or 51.
  • the multiplexer circuit 52 By the effect of the multiplexer circuit 52, the point N ° 1 of the first line of the image from memory 37 is transferred to register 61, point No. 2 in register 62, point No. 3 in register 61, point No. 4 in register 62, and so on to point No. 378 (half of 756).
  • the registers 61 and 62 being full, the transfer takes place in the registers 63 and 64 so that the points of odd order are directed towards the register 63 and the points of even order towards the register 64.
  • the points of the first line of the image of the memory 38 are directed towards the register 65 or register 66 for the points 1 to 378 according to whether they are respectively of odd or even order then towards the register 67 or 68 for points 379 to 756 according to the same criterion.
  • the reading of the memory 54 is carried out by pair of registers, first 61 and 65 which correspond to the points of odd order 1 to 377 (left side G of the matrix), then the registers 63 and 67 for the points of odd order 379 to 755 (right side), then registers 62 and 66 for even order points 2 to 378 and finally registers 64 and 68 for points 380 to 756.
  • the information read in the memory 54 is transferred to the double register 55 with regard to that contained in the registers 61 and 65, in the double register 57 for that of the registers 62 and 66 and in the double register 58 for that of the registers 64 and 68.
  • each of the double registers 55 to 58 is then combined sequentially with the addressing signals of the rows and columns to display the correct color intensity at the point of the liquid crystal matrix selected by the addressing signals.
  • These row and column addressing signals as well as all the other signals which are necessary for the operation of the various circuits 50 to 54 are produced by a logic control circuit 60 which also receives clock signals from the symbol generator 35 (FIG. 4).
