Die Ofenwagen sind an ihren Längsseiten mit Sandschürzen ausgerüstet, die in mit Sand gefüllte Rinnen im Ofenfundament eintauchen, um eine Dichtung zum Unterwagenkanal zu schaffen. Dabei ist ein größerer Abstand zwischen den Ofenwagenzügen erfoderlich, um eine Sandzuführung zur dort befindlichen Sandrinne zu ermöglichen. Wie sich herausgestellt hat, ist dies in bezug auf die Strömungsverhältnisse im Brennkanal ungünstig. Zudem vermehrt die Vielzhal von Sandrinnen bei mehrsträngigem Betrieb die ohnehin schon vorhandenen Undichtigkeiten zwischen Brennkanal und Unterwagenkanal und führt zu Problemen in der Aufheizzone des Ofens. Mehrsträngige Tunnelöfen ohne Zwischenwände werden deshalb seit längerem nicht mehr gebaut.It is known that several kiln car trains pass through a correspondingly multi-strand tunnel kiln in parallel next to one another without partition walls.
