Abstract

A radial press is described for workpieces with an essentially cylindrical outer surface, with a plurality of pressing jaws which are arranged in a circle around the axis of the outer surface of the workpiece, are guided on an axial abutment, are movable radially to this axis and the outer surfaces of which each have at least one control surface formed obliquely to the axis, and with a pressure ring which can be displaced axially relative to the pressing jaws by a hydraulic or pneumatic drive and the inner surfaces of which have control surfaces which come into engagement with the control surfaces of the pressing jaws when the pressure ring is displaced axially to close the pressing jaws, the pressing jaws moving radially inwards, initially with a rapid idle stroke and then with a slow power stroke. To avoid damage to the control surfaces, the pressing jaws are guided on the pressure ring with the control surfaces of the pressure ring and pressing jaws lifted clear in the range of the idle-stroke motion of the pressure ring.
