Description

The present invention relates to a percussion device for a firearm, in particular for revolvers or pistols, making it possible to adapt to two ammunition of different calibers, and more particularly to two ammunition, one of which is with central percussion and the other is with annular percussion.

The problem of percussion does not arise in the case of two ammunition with central percussion, since the striker can in this case keep the same position regardless of the type of ammunition used.

It is quite different when one wishes to use with the same weapon munitions of smaller caliber, which are annular percussion, such as ammunition of caliber 22 Long Rifle (approximately 5.5 mm). One could naturally dodge the difficulty by using two different weapons, but it is well known that the shooter very much prefers to use a single weapon to keep the same sensations.

To adapt the barrel part, in particular with revolvers, the change of ammunition implies either a change of the barrel itself for the weapons with interchangeable barrel, or the use of a reducing tube, introduced in the barrel of origin and usually fixed with a stirrup.

The adaptation of the other components of the weapon to switch to an annular percussion mode is more complex, because it is necessary to adapt the percussion device and / or the barrel of the revolver.

Several solutions have been proposed to adapt only the barrel, in order to keep the same percussion device, but such an assumption results in complex and generally unsatisfactory embodiments.

A special room There was thus proposed to use for the rimfire form of a piece of cylinder sliding impactors, said barrel piece being mounted in rear of the ejector (see, e.g. U.S. Patent No. 2 150 914); each sliding striker has an eccentric lug at its front end for annular percussion. The presence of such a removable piece, which moreover falls during the ejection of the sockets, is unsatisfactory, both in terms of manufacturing cost and in terms of practical use.

Related systems have also been proposed with a false cartridge (reducing cartridge) and incorporated percussion block, but such systems have substantially the same disadvantages as those which have just been mentioned.

It has also been proposed to use a special barrel smaller diameter bent chambers (see, e.g., French patent application No. 2,505,476): the inclination of the rear part of the room (4 to 5 degrees) allows automatically present the base of the ammunition in the annular impact position. However, in addition to the use of a special jumper for its mounting, the machining of such a barrel is difficult and involves a non-negligible manufacturing cost.

Other solutions have been proposed for adapting the barrel using a rear barrel block whose chambers are axial but of smaller diameter, by virtue of an oscillating striker with two positions associated with a seat with two passages (see for example the patent US No. 2,976,638). The striker itself can rotate around a transverse axis, in order to occupy either a high position for the central percussion, or a low position for the annular percussion. Such a design involves the production of parts of complex structure, the manufacturing cost of which is high, and the reliability of which is unsatisfactory due to the numerous manufacturing tolerances.

It has also been proposed to use a mounted striker mechanism tounant in the frame of the revolver, the carcass being specially designed to allow movement of the tip of the firing pin (see, e.g. U.S. Patent No. 3,050,894). In this mechanism, the striker body is housed in the carcass, and is itself positioned and locked either in the central percussion position, or in the annular percussion position. This arrangement implies the presence of a curved light (quarter circle) in the carcass to allow the tip of the striker to pass: by rotating the striker body, the tip is thus brought into one or the other of the two positions. desired. Mechanisms of this type have many drawbacks, the most serious of which is the risk of blocking the barrel: in fact, upon percussion, the primer or the base of the casing can penetrate the bent light by swelling , this swelling then risking blocking the rotation of the barrel. In addition, such mechanisms have a complex structure involving delicate assembly operations.

The prior art of the invention can also be completed by mentioning U.S. Patent No. 3,170,261, wherein is described a mechanism for either a single or simultaneous firing (three ammunition): In this mechanism, a stud integral with the barrel rotates a cylindrical seat, to bring the striker into an angular position such that its outline produces a single or simultaneous shot.

Finally, when it comes to a pistol, the cylinder head, barrel and recuperating spring are traditionally changed. We therefore offer a complete conversion kit, the cost of which is relatively high due to the number of parts to be changed, the most expensive being the cylinder head.

L'arrière-plan technologique de l'invention peut être enfin complété en mentionnant les brevets américains No 2 127 318, No 1 849 982 No 3 049 977 et No 1 373 888, les brevets allemands No 518 372 et No 298 815, et le brevet suisse No 534 854.The technological background of the invention can finally be completed by mentioning the US patents No. 2,127,318, No. 1,849,982 No. 3,049,977 and No. 1,373,888, German Patent No. 518,372 and No. 298,815 and Swiss patent No. 534,854.

The object of the invention is to propose a percussion device for a firearm making it possible to pass easily from a central percussion to an annular percussion, the structure of which is simple and offers great reliability.

In the case of revolvers, the invention aims to propose a percussion device mounted on the carcass of the revolver, and authorizing the use of conventional barrels with reduced axial rectilinear chambers.

In the case of pistols, the invention aims to propose a percussion device mounted on the breech of the revolver, and making it possible to keep the same breech for the two types of ammunition used.

- une assise cylindrique montée tournante dans un alésage de la carcasse ou de la culasse de l'arme, et dont l'axe de rotation est parallèle à l'axe du canon de ladite arme ;
- un percuteur pouvant coulisser dans un évidement cylindrique étagé de l'assise cylindrique, dont l'axe est parallèle à l'axe de rotation de ladite assise cylindrique mais décalé par rapport à celui-ci ;
It is more particularly a percussion device for a firearm, in particular for a revolver or pistol, making it possible to adapt to two ammunition of different calibers, one of which is with central percussion and the other is annular percussion, characterized in that it comprises:
- A cylindrical seat rotatably mounted in a bore of the carcass or the breech of the weapon, and whose axis of rotation is parallel to the axis of the barrel of said weapon;
- A striker which can slide in a stepped cylindrical recess of the cylindrical seat, the axis of which is parallel to the axis of rotation of said cylindrical seat but offset with respect thereto;
a stop member mounted transversely in the cylindrical seat, and against which the striker is held in abutment in the retracted position by an elastic means such as a spring or the like,
a locking member mounted transversely in the carcass or the breech of the weapon, and capable of locking the cylindrical seat in one or other of two positions thereof, corresponding to a central percussion or to a annular percussion.

According to a first variant, the cylindrical seat has a transverse hole, the central part of which opens into the stepped cylindrical recess of said seat, said transverse hole serving to receive the stop member of the striker; in particular, the stop member is a pin passing through a notch of the striker.

According to another variant, the cylindrical seat has a peripheral groove, a part of which opens into the stepped cylindrical recess of said seat, said peripheral groove serving to receive the stop member of the striker. Preferably, the stop member is an elastic ring, a portion of which passes through a notch of the striker; in particular, the elastic rod has substantially the shape of a horseshoe, with a straight central branch passing through the notch of the striker.

Depending on the case, the striker notch has a bottom extending to the rear end of the striker, or a rear edge defining a bottom, the length is slightly greater than the axial stroke of said striker. Preferably, the striker comprises a cylindrical main body extending forward towards a percussion rod, the notch of the striker being formed on said main body; in particular, a spring surrounds the portion of the percussion rod of the striker which is inside the enlarged part of the stepped cylindrical recess of the seat.

According to an advantageous characteristic, the locking member of the cylindrical seat is a screw received in a thread passing through the carcass or the breech of the weapon, and the end of which bears against the seat for locking of said seat in one of the two positions thereof. In particular, the cylindrical seat presents externally two flat lateral facets, against one or the other of which the head of a flat head screw can be applied, or even two conical recesses, in one or the other of which can be received the head of a needle screw.

Preferably, the front end of the cylindrical seat is a shoulder received in an associated circular recess formed in the carcass or the breech of the weapon; in particular, the shoulder has two peripheral notches to allow the rotation of the cylindrical seat using an associated tool.

In general, it is advantageous to provide that the passage for the cylindrical seat from one percussion position to the other takes place by a 180 ° rotation of said seat around its axis.

Le revolver ainsi équipé du canon 3ʹ et du barillet 4ʹ est illustré en figure 1B.In the partial section view of FIG. 1A, there is a revolver comprising a carcass 1, a sleeve or sheath 2, and a barrel 3, the rear end of which is screwed onto the carcass 1. This is a revolver of the interchangeable barrel type, that is to say one for which a set of several barrels and associated barrels is provided making it possible to modify the caliber and / or the length of the barrel, but it goes without saying that the invention does is by no means limited to this type of firearm as will become clear from the remainder of the description. The revolver is equipped with a barrel 4, the axial chambers 5 of which receive ammunition such as the bullet 6 of the central percussion type; it could for example be ammunition of 7.65 mm or 9 mm caliber. When it is desired to use this revolver with ammunition with annular percussion, the barrel 3 is replaced by a barrel 3ʹ adapted to the caliber of this new ammunition, likewise for the barrel which is replaced by a barrel 4ʹ whose chambers 5ʹ can receive 6ʹ ammunition, such as a 22 caliber Long Rifle ammunition (about 5.5 mm). It goes without saying that one could use a reduction tube (not shown here) threaded inside the barrel if it is a revolver which is not of the interchangeable barrel type. The revolver thus equipped with the barrel 3ʹ and the barrel 4ʹ is illustrated in FIG. 1B.

The description will now relate to the percussion device proper, which makes it possible to adapt to two munitions of different caliber, one of which is with central percussion (munition 6, FIG. 1A) and the other is with annular percussion ( 6ʹ ammunition, Figure 1B).

There is thus a cylindrical seat 7 rotatably mounted in a bore 8 of the carcass 1, and whose axis of rotation 9 is parallel to the axis 10 of the barrel of the revolver. The percussion device also includes a striker 11 capable of sliding in a stepped cylindrical recess 12 of the seat 7; the axis 13 of the striker 11 is parallel to the axis of rotation 9 of the cylindrical seat, but it is offset with respect thereto. The striker 11 comprises a cylindrical main body 14 extending forwardly by a percussion rod 15. There is provided a stop member, which is here a cylindrical pin 16 mounted transversely in the cylindrical seat 7, stop member against which the striker 11 is held in abutment in the retracted position (that shown in FIGS. 1A and 1B) by an elastic means such as a spring 17. The pin 16 is housed in a transverse hole 18, the central part of which opens into the stepped cylindrical recess 12 of the seat 7, as is better visible in the detail of FIG. 3A. The pin 16 passes through a notch 19 of the striker 11, said notch having here a bottom extending to the rear end of the striker. It goes without saying that one could provide a notch having a rear edge defining a bottom whose length is slightly greater than the axial stroke of the striker but, taking into account the space resulting from the cylindrical stop pin 16, it is simpler to provide a notch bottom opening in the manner of a flat, as shown in Figures 1A and 1B. So, the striker 11 is, in its natural position, in abutment against the pin 16; at the time of percussion, the striker leaves its support, and the percussion rod 15 strikes the base of the ammunition projecting from the front face of the cylindrical seat 7.

The seat of the percussion device can occupy two basic positions, one being assigned to central percussion (Figure 1A), while the other is assigned to annular percussion (Figure 1B). We pass from one to the other of these two positions by simply rotating the seat 7 around its axis 9, preferably at an angle of 180 °. It is naturally necessary to provide a locking member making it possible to properly lock the cylindrical seat 7 in one or the other of these two positions. As can be seen in FIGS. 3A and 3B, the cylindrical seat 7 has two planar lateral facets 20 on the outside, against one or the other of which can be applied the head of a flat head screw 21. Thus , to move from one percussion position to another, simply unscrew the screw 21, and turn the seat 7 by 180 ° so that the striker 11 is instantly in the central percussion position or in the annular percussion position . As can be seen in FIGS. 1A and 1B, the front end of the cylindrical seat 7 is in the form of a shoulder 22 received in an associated circular recess formed in the carcass 1 of the weapon. It is then interesting to provide that the shoulder 22 has two peripheral notches 23, only visible in FIGS. 2A and 2B, to allow the rotation of the cylindrical seat 7 using an associated tool, such as than a lug wrench.

Thus, when the user wants to switch from a central percussion mode to an annular percussion mode, he begins by dismantling the barrel and the barrel, which gives access to the front face of the percussion device, and more particularly to the pins of the shoulder of the cylindrical seat. He then unscrews the screw 21, then rotates the cylindrical seat 7 by 180 °, and tightens the screw 21 when the cylindrical seat is in its new position corresponding to that illustrated in FIGS. 1B, 2B, 3B. It then suffices to reassemble a barrel and a barrel corresponding to the new caliber, and the revolver is ready for its new use.

It goes without saying that various modifications can be made to the components of the percussion device of the invention, and in particular to the stop member against which the striker is held in abutment, as well as to the locking member making it possible to lock the cylindrical seat in a predetermined position. FIGS. 4A, 5A and 6A illustrate such possible variants. The percussion device thus comprises a cylindrical seat 24 which differs from the seat 7 in that it comprises a peripheral groove 25, a part of which opens into the stepped cylindrical recess 30 of said seat, said peripheral groove serving to receive the abutment member 26 of the striker, which here is an elastic rod, a central portion of which passes through a notch 27 of the striker 28. As is better visible in FIG. 6A, the elastic rod 26 has substantially the shape of an iron horse, with a straight central branch 29 passing through the notch 27 of the striker 28. It will be noted that here the notch 27 of the striker 28 has a rear edge 31 (FIG. 6A) defining a bottom of notch whose length is slightly greater than the axial stroke of said striker. As before, the striker 28 comprises a main body 32 cylindrical, extending forwardly by a percussion rod 33, the notch 27 of said striker being formed on said main body.

As can be seen in FIG. 5A, the cylindrical seat 24 has two conical recesses 34 on the outside (only one shown here), in one or the other of which can be received the head of a needle screw 35. It is preferable that these reception cones are provided sufficiently distant from the groove receiving the elastic ring, for example towards the middle of the cylindrical seat. Such a variant makes it possible to avoid the machining of lateral facets on the cylindrical seat.

As before, and as illustrated in FIGS. 4B, 5B and 6B, the operator can switch to annular percussion by dismantling the barrel and the barrel, by unscrewing the needle screw 35, by turning the cylindrical seat 24 by 180 °. by means of a lug wrench, by tightening the screw 35, and finally by reassembling the barrel and the barrel corresponding to the new caliber.

As has been said above, the invention applies to weapons with interchangeable barrel or using reducing tubes, but is in no way limited to barrel revolvers. The percussion device of the invention finds an extremely advantageous application in the equipment of pistols, as will be described with reference to FIGS. 7A and 8A, and 7B and 8B.

There is thus a pistol breech 36, with a carcass 37 at the front part inside which is disposed the barrel 38 adapted for ammunition with central percussion 39. As previously, there is also provided a cylindrical seat 40 rotatably mounted in a bore 41 of the breech of the pistol and whose axis of rotation 42 is parallel to the axis of the barrel of said pistol There is also a striker 43 which can slide in a stepped cylindrical recess 44 of the cylindrical seat 40, the axis 45 of which is parallel to the axis of rotation 42 of said seat but offset with respect thereto. There is also a stop member 46, here analogous to the pin 16 previously described, mounted transversely in the cylindrical seat 40, and against which the striker 43 is held in abutment in the retracted position by a spring 47. Finally, there is a locking member 48 mounted transversely in the breech of the weapon, and capable of locking the cylindrical seat 40 in one or the other of two positions thereof, corresponding to a central percussion or to an annular percussion. the member 48 is here a needle screw cooperating with conical recesses formed on the outer surface of the cylindrical seat 40, but it goes without saying that one could provide a flat head screw cooperating with one or the other. 'other of two flat side facets formed externally on the cylindrical seat. Similarly, the main body of the striker 43 has a notch 49 through which the transverse pin 46 passes, which notch has a rear edge defining a bottom whose length is slightly greater than the axial stroke of said striker. It goes without saying that one could also provide a notch having a bottom extending to the rear end of the striker, as illustrated in FIGS. 1A and 1B, but it is preferable to use a non-opening notch for better sealing and better mechanical resistance of the part, knowing that the striker is, for a pistol, significantly longer than for a revolver.

When the operator wishes to switch to annular percussion, he just has to change the barrel by placing in the carcass 37 a new barrel 38ʹ adapted to the caliber of a munition 39ʹ with annular percussion, after having turned the cylindrical seat 40 °. of the percussion device, as illustrated in FIGS. 7B and 8B. It can thus be noted that it becomes useless to change the breech 36 of the pistol, which represents a significant progress compared to existing techniques.

It goes without saying that the invention is in no way limited to the embodiments which have just been described, but on the contrary encompasses any variant incorporating, with equivalent means, the essential characteristics appearing in the claims.
