Abstract

A covering for an opening in road surfaces, squares or the like comprises a frame and a cover. The cover has a conical, downwardly and inwardly inclined contact surface by which the cover is supported on a bearing surface provided on a support flange of the frame. The bearing surface is also conical and inwardly inclined. At the bearing surface are provided spaced, circumferentially distributed wedge-shaped grooves, which cooperate with lugs on the cover. By means of the inwardly and downwardly inclined surfaces of the lugs and grooves, a self-centering of the cover is obtained. The centering is guided by the lugs. Claims (5)

  1. A covering for an opening in road complexes, squares, courtyards and bases, with a frame (1) and a cover (2) or a grate inserted in the same, which has, on its bottom side, ribs (15), as well as with effective means (7,16) between the frame (1) and the cover (2) or grate for fixing the mutual position of the cover (2) or the grate and the frame (1), wherein a contact surface (11) of the cover (2) or the grate, as well as at least one bearing surface (10) on the inner side of the frame (1), are constructed as conical, downwardly and inwardly directed fitting faces, characterised in that the means consist of noses (16), arranged on the periphery of the cover (2) or grate and integrally connected to the ribs (15), as well as grooves (7) arranged on the frame (1) for accommodating the same, and the bearing surface (10) is formed by the upper side of a supporting flange (3).
  2. A covering according to claim 1, characterised in that the noses (16) have a roof-shaped front side (9'), which cooperates with a correspondingly formed roof-shape groove base (9).
  3. A covering according to claim 1 or 2, characterised in that the noses (16) and the grooves (7) have substantially vertical side walls (8',8).
  4. A covering according to one of claims 1 to 3, characterized in that the ribs (15) cross in the form of a grid.
  5. A covering according to one of claims 1 to 4, characterised in that in strips of the ribs (15) there are provided holes (20).
