- the invention relates to a cover for an opening in road systems, squares, courtyards and floors according to the preamble of claim 1.
- the invention relates to the field of devices such as those used in road systems, for example manhole covers for covering manholes, drains and channels.
- manhole covers for covering manholes, drains and channels.
- covers can also be used in squares, in courtyards and also in the floors of buildings and serve there as covers for manholes, inspection shafts and the like.
- covers are known in many designs and essentially consist of a frame and a lid or grate inserted in the frame.
- the frame serves as a border for the opening and also as a support frame for the lid or grate.
- the frame and the cover or the grate are preferably laid at ground level.
- the means for fixing the mutual position of the cover or grate and the frame, according to the characterizing features of claim 1, are designed such that they complement conventional constructions as it were and, in particular, frames designed according to the invention also readily can be combined with conventional lids without such means.
- the invention can be used in connection with grates as well as with lids.
- a lid or grate according to the invention offers the advantages of great dimensional stability and simple manufacture due to the structural connection of the fixing means with reinforcing ribs. Because the bearing surface for the cover or grate is formed by a support flange, the latter can be made less inclined, which reduces the risk of the cover or grate jamming.
- a cover is shown in the not yet installed state, which is composed of a frame 1 and a cover 2.
- the frame 1 is essentially a cylindrical tube piece, which surrounds the opening provided in the bottom and at the same time is storage of the cover 2.
- a support flange 3 is arranged on the inside of the cylindrical part 4 of the frame 1, which forms a support surface for the storage of the cover 2.
- a number of grooves 7 are incorporated, which are provided on the support flange 3 at regular intervals.

- Radially extending ribs 15 are arranged on the underside 12 of the cover 2.
- the ribs 15 end in a cam 16, which extends over the bearing surface 11 and has a wedge shape that corresponds to the wedge shape of the groove 7.
- the cam 16 has side walls 8 ⁇ and a roof-shaped end wall 9 ⁇ .
- the cams 16 fit into the grooves 7 in the support flange 3. This ensures that the cover 2 is positioned and centered precisely in the frame 1. A slight play is provided between the cams 16 and the grooves 7.
- the section shown in FIG. 2 shows two grooves 7 which only protrude to a small extent into the bearing surface 10 of the support flange 3.
- grooves 17 are provided next to the grooves, which represent an interruption of the bearing surface. Substances impairing the storage of the cover can collect in the channels 17.
- a groove 7 is shown on an enlarged scale.
- the support flange 3 is integrally connected to the cylindrical part 4 of the frame 1.
- the groove 7 is arranged, whereby it extends approximately radially extending side walls 8 and two end walls 9 converging in an arcuate shape.
- the side walls 8 and the end walls 9 can also be formed inclined downwards and inwards. This ensures that the cover 2 can only move until the cam 16 is clamped between the side walls 8 and end walls 9 of the groove 7. It is also possible that the side walls 8 ⁇ and end walls 9 ⁇ of the cams 16 are inclined downwards and inwards.
- the cylindrical part 4 extends over the contact surface 11 with an edge portion 18, the edge surface 19 of which is approximately flush with the surrounding base surface.
- the cover 2 inserted into the frame 1 on the support surface 11 has a cover height through which it is aligned with the edge surface 19 in the centered position.
- FIG. 4 shows a variant of the cover 2.
- This lid differs from that according to FIG. 1 in that the ribs 15 are designed like a grid and with crossing ribs. Recesses 20 are provided in the ribs 15, through which a reduction in weight is achieved.
- the cams 16 can be provided with the wedge-shaped ends.
- the grooves 7 are also to be arranged accordingly, ie in the case of a circular cover, the grooves 7 are no longer radial.
- the covers and thus also the cover 2 can have any shape, ie in addition to the round design can be oval, square, triangular, quadrangular, the grooves 7 are to be provided in accordance with the shape of the cover 2 and the position of the cams 16.
- the other parts of the cover 2 according to FIG. 4 correspond to those in FIG. 1.
- the knobs 16 extend over the downwardly and inwardly inclined bearing surface 11, to which the vertical cover edge 21 adjoins, which in its height is that of the edge part 18 of the frame 1 corresponds.
- ribs can also be different.
- further rib arrangements can also be selected, e.g. an annular rib in the center of the cover 2 with adjoining radially extending ribs.
- a grate with the same dimensions can also be used. Only passages between the ribs 15 are provided for the formation of a grate,
- the cover described is designed in such a way that the cover 2 is self-centering. This is achieved by the formation of the inclined surfaces 10 and 11. This centering also causes rotation, so that the cams 16 are centered in the grooves 7.
- the cover described has the property of largely eliminating the possibility that the cover or the grate 2 can be moved or removed from its position by traffic influences.
- the small movements that the bearing surface 10 of the frame 1 and the bearing surface 11 of the cover 2 perform against each other to a certain extent cause self-cleaning, so that problems with penetrating dirt can hardly occur.

Abstract
Description
The invention relates to a cover for an opening in road systems, squares, courtyards and floors according to the preamble of claim 1.
The invention relates to the field of devices such as those used in road systems, for example manhole covers for covering manholes, drains and channels. However, such covers can also be used in squares, in courtyards and also in the floors of buildings and serve there as covers for manholes, inspection shafts and the like. Such covers are known in many designs and essentially consist of a frame and a lid or grate inserted in the frame. The frame serves as a border for the opening and also as a support frame for the lid or grate. The frame and the cover or the grate are preferably laid at ground level.
From GB-A-1 397 554 a generic cover is known, in which the means for fixing the mutual position of the frame and the cover are designed as three sections of greater radius, each extending over about a sixth of the cover circumference, and corresponding sections in the frame .
The result of this is that the frame and lid must always fit each other in a form-fitting manner. In particular, it is impossible to use conventional round lids or grids. In addition, the shape is not very suitable for gratings - only one lid is described in the application mentioned.
In contrast, in the cover according to the invention, the means for fixing the mutual position of the cover or grate and the frame, according to the characterizing features of claim 1, are designed such that they complement conventional constructions as it were and, in particular, frames designed according to the invention also readily can be combined with conventional lids without such means. The invention can be used in connection with grates as well as with lids. In addition, a lid or grate according to the invention offers the advantages of great dimensional stability and simple manufacture due to the structural connection of the fixing means with reinforcing ribs. Because the bearing surface for the cover or grate is formed by a support flange, the latter can be made less inclined, which reduces the risk of the cover or grate jamming.

In Fig. 1, a cover is shown in the not yet installed state, which is composed of a frame 1 and a
In the
The
In the same way, a corresponding conical, downward and inward bearing
If the
In Figures 2-4 some details of the cover of Fig. 1 are shown.
The section shown in FIG. 2 shows two
In Fig. 3, a
The
The formation of the ribs can also be different. In addition to the rib arrangement shown in Figs. 1 and 4, further rib arrangements can also be selected, e.g. an annular rib in the center of the
The cover described is designed in such a way that the
Furthermore, the cover described has the property of largely eliminating the possibility that the cover or the
