Abstract
Description
The invention relates to a device for conveying and metering liquids which form gases during storage and / or conveyance by chemical decomposition, by means of a membrane pump, which conveys the liquid from a reservoir essentially upwards to a pressurized, closed system.
Disinfectant liquids that consist of or contain solutions of peracetic acid, sodium hypochlorite and hydrogen peroxide are frequently used in the food and beverage industry. These solutions are conveyed from storage containers, eg transport canisters, by means of membrane pumps and fed into closed systems to be disinfected. Since these liquids constantly develop oxygen, gas bubbles are constantly formed in the delivery system, which impair the functionality of the diaphragm pump or an effective delivery prevent. The manufacturers of the diaphragm pumps suitable for this purpose therefore prescribe to bleed the delivery system and the pump if necessary. This makes regular dosing of the disinfectant impossible.
The invention is directed to a device of the type mentioned at the outset which makes manual venting unnecessary. This object is achieved according to the invention by a device which, through a suction line, the lower end of which is immersed in the liquid and at the upper end of which the diaphragm pump is arranged, a return line arranged on the pressure side on or in the diaphragm pump, a first one arranged in the return line Shut-off valve and a delivery and metering line arranged on the pressure side of the diaphragm pump with a second shut-off valve arranged in the same and a metering valve provided at the end of the same, wherein the first and the second shut-off valve can be actuated alternately.
According to a preferred embodiment of the invention, the first shut-off valve is time-controlled. The second shut-off valve and the metering valve are preferably designed as check valves.
With the device of the invention, which uses commercially available components and is of simple construction, it is possible, for example in the start-up phase of a disinfection, to remove gas in the line system together with the liquid to be pumped from the system and to flush it back into the storage container by the first, Shut-off valve arranged in the return line is opened for a certain period of time and the second shut-off valve is closed for the same period of time. In particular, none of the aggressive disinfectants get into the environment.
Further advantageous embodiments of the invention result from the following description, reference being made to the drawing. It shows a schematic view of a preferred device of the invention.
The drawing shows a storage container (1) with the liquid (2) to be pumped and / or metered. A suction line (3) dips into the liquid at its lower end, at the upper end of which there is a diaphragm pump (6) equipped on the suction and pressure side with a check valve (4, 5) each. The diaphragm pump can also be equipped with a pressure relief valve, not shown. On the pressure side there is a delivery and metering line (7) on the diaphragm pump with a return line (8) branching off near the diaphragm pump. A first shut-off valve (9) with an adjustable timing is arranged in the return line. A check valve (10) and a suitably spring-loaded metering valve (11) are located above the branch of the return line (8). (12) denotes a closed system which is under pressure and into which the liquid (2) is to be fed.
If the dosing system has been idle for a long time, you can flush out gas that has accumulated in the diaphragm pump and the delivery line by opening the valve (9) for a certain, adjustable time, for example 10 s. Opening the valve (9) closes the check valve (10) and the spring-loaded check valve (11). The timing of the valve (9) is set based on experience; it is opened until experience has shown that the flushing out of gas accumulations in the system is complete. When the valve (9) closes, the Diaphragm pump (6) in the delivery and metering line (7) again pressure, whereby the check valves (10) and (11) open and the metering starts.
Numerous modifications to the device of the invention are conceivable. For example, in the diaphragm pump (6) via conductivity electrodes to determine whether larger amounts of gas have accumulated in the system. The measurement result is converted into a signal which causes the valve (9) to open automatically until the gas quantities are flushed out.
