Abstract

The apparatus includes means (7, 12) for creating at least two air-drying movements or currents (Fa, Ff) in the washing drum around its side wall and its front and back, these currents being symmetrical with respect to the median transverse plane of the drum. One of the currents (Fa) leaves the side wall radially and re-enters axially through the back, while the other (Ff) leaves the side wall radially and re-enters axially through the front of the drum. <IMAGE>

Description

The present invention relates to a rotary drum device drying laundry by air circulation.

Known apparatuses with rotary horizontal drum drying clothes by circulation of hot air such as a tumble dryer or a washer-dryer with drum usually comprise a horizontal drum with a perforated rotating wall and lifting the wet clothes to dry for the 'expose to an axial current of hot air sent into this drum through an inlet sheath, by a fan. The hot drying air which is charged with humidity extracted from the damp linen is collected in an outlet duct to be either rejected outside the appliance or dehumidified by passage through a condenser and heated by an electric heating element before to be returned again to the laundry drum by this fan to start a new cycle, and so on until the end of the drying operation.

Known devices with a horizontal rotary drum drying linen by circulation of hot air include major drawbacks, the main ones of which are recalled below. In these known devices, the yield decreases when the load of laundry to be dried is reduced.

Indeed, when the load of linen is weaker, the surface of exchange between the hot air of drying and the wet linen decreases (this surface exchange being constituted by that of the linen to be dried) the relative share of air flow hot which crosses the drum without meeting the linen increases and is discharged in pure waste. The decrease in yield relatively lengthens the drying time.

In known open circuit devices, the entire air flow which feeds the laundry drum is discharged to the outside.

The large volume of air released from the device is an important vector for transporting dust. If the appliance is connected to a discharge duct outside the room where is stored this device, this sheath must be of large section to conduct this air flow. It is difficult to saturate this large air flow with humidity, resulting in a loss of efficiency. As the evaporation rate is proportional to the temperature difference between the drying air and the surface of the laundry and to the heat exchange coefficient, to obtain drying of the shortest possible duration, it is advantageous to increase:
  • the heat exchange coefficient, that is to say, the speed of air passage over the laundry, in other words the air flow rate, and / or
  • the temperature difference between the drying air and the laundry, i.e. the heating power up to the limit of the safety temperature allowed by the laundry.

Now known devices are defined so that the maximum temperature seen by a small given load of dry laundry remains below the safety temperature which is generally less than or equal to 105 ° C for cotton and 60 ° C for cotton. synthetic.

Under these conditions, it is understood that when these known devices are used at full load in the laundry, the operating temperature at the laundry is very below the temperature that the laundry could withstand, the drying time is thus relatively elongated compared to what it could be.

One of the known drying apparatus with an open air circuit is described in document US-A-2,543,579. This apparatus comprises, during drying of the laundry in its drum, a single stream of drying air which passes through this drum . This current of drying air drawn by the rotating drum comes from the external atmosphere, passes through heating elements to be brought to a drying temperature, enters axially into the laundry drum through a central opening of a full rear flange. of the drum to come into contact with laundry to be dried, bypasses the obstacle constituted by a full front flange of this drum, leaves laterally by perforations in the shell of the drum, follows the walls of a volute casing which surrounds this drum and passes through a fluff filter before escaping outside the device. This stream of drying air does not come into contact with parts of the laundry located in the vicinity of the full front flange of this drum which constitutes an obstacle which it bypasses. These parts of the laundry are not properly dried. Thus, the drying air flow is not exploited to the maximum.

Another known open circuit drying apparatus described in document AT-A-190,024 also comprises a single stream of drying air passing through its laundry drum, during drying. This stream of drying air coming from outside, heated during its passage through heating elements at the top of the device, is sucked either by a fan installed at the bottom of the device to pass diametrically through the laundry drum by entering and leaving it by perforations in the diametrically opposite upper and lower parts of its shell, or by a fan mounted in the rear of the appliance on the axis of rotation of the drum to pass through it drum by entering it through perforations in the ferrule and leaving it by perforations in its rear flange. Parts of the laundry in the vicinity of the side portions of the drum in the first case and those in the vicinity of the front flange of the drum in the second case are not in contact with the stream of drying air and are of this fact poorly dried. the drying air flow is then not exploited to the maximum of its drying power. Its performance is poor.

The aim of the present invention is to avoid these drawbacks and makes it possible to produce an economical device with a rotary drum which dries linen efficiently and quickly by air circulation.

According to the invention, an apparatus with a perforated rotary drum drying laundry by air circulation which enters through a flange in this drum and exits through the side wall of the latter, characterized in that it comprises at least means (12, 43, 72, 118) creating by an air outlet of this drum (3) through its side wall (8) a depression inside this drum (3) and a draft of air in this drum (3) through its front (9) and rear (10) flanges and its side wall (8), two movements or air currents (Fa, Ff) symmetrical with respect to its median transverse plane (14), one (Fa) leaving radially from the side wall and returning axially by the rear flange, and the other (Ff) leaving radially from the side wall and returning axially by the front flange of this drum and means creating a current d air (Fm) around this drum.

The invention is applicable to the dryer and to the washer-dryer.

A horizontal rotary drum device drying clothes by air circulation in the form of a dryer 1, produced according to the invention, is partially and schematically illustrated in FIGS. 1 and 2.

Le tambour à linge 3 comprend dans sa surface intérieure des nervures de soulèvement de linge 11.The dryer 1 comprises a preferably thermally insulating body 2, a horizontal laundry drum 3 driven in rotation about a horizontal axis 13 by means of an electric motor 4 and a belt 5. The dryer 1 includes, like dryers -washing of the examples illustrated in Figures 1 to 5 a front opening 6 for access to the laundry drum 3. For the example illustrated in Figure 7, a dryer includes an opening of top loading. The laundry drum 3 is provided with holes or perforations 7 both in its cylindrical side wall 8 and in its front 9 and rear flanges 10. The laundry drum 3 has, in its internal surface, laundry lifting ribs 11.

The line dryer 1 with a laundry drum 3 comprises, for rapid drying of the laundry, at least means creating, by an air outlet from this drum through the holes or perforations 7 in its side wall 8, a depression inside the washing drum 3 and an air draw in this drum through the perforations 7 of the front 9 and rear 10 flanges of the latter and the heating means.

The dryer 1 with horizontal washing machine drum 3 comprises, for gradually removing the hot humid air leaving the washing machine drum 3, means creating a current of air coming from outside, passing through the appliance through the space surrounding it. laundry drum.

In the example illustrated in FIGS. 1 and 2, the dryer 1 with a laundry drum 3 comprises as means creating a vacuum inside the laundry drum and a draft of air in this drum, in other words as means of creation of air movements or drafts, on the one hand parallel spaced fins 12 formed on the outer surface of the side wall 8 of this drum in the longitudinal direction of the latter and on the other hand perforations or holes 7 formed at both in the side wall 8 and in the front 9 and rear 10 flanges of this drum. These spaced fins 12 are parallel either to the generators of this drum or to the propellers chosen on the side wall 8 of this drum. During a rotation of the laundry drum 3, the parallel fins 12 create in the manner of a turbine by a centrifugal radial outlet of the air from this drum through the holes 7 of the side wall 8, a depression at the inside this drum 3. This depression generates a call in the drum 3 through the holes 7 of the front 9 and rear flanges 10, air being in the space surrounding the drum 3. It is thus created, in the drum 3 and around its two front flanges 9 and rear 10 and the side wall 8 two movements or drafts Fa and Ff symmetrical, with respect to its median transverse plane 14, formed on the one hand by air currents Fa exiting radially by the side wall 8 of the drum 3 and returning axially by the rear flange 10, and on the other hand by air currents Ff leaving radially by the side wall 8 of the drum 3 and returning axially by the front flange 9. These spaced fins 12 in rotation also constitute means creating around the drum in the direction of rotation of the latter, a third movement or air flow Fm formed by a mixture of air Fa and Ff.

In the dryer 1 heating means 15 and 16 constituted either by electric heating resistors or by sources of infrared radiation of a known type are some 15 mounted in the air currents Fa, preferably parallel to the rear flange 10 of the drum 3 and the others 16 mounted in the air streams Ff preferably parallel to the front flange 9 of the drum. When the heating means 15 and 16 are constituted by electric heating resistors, the air leaving the drum 3 is thus heated before being sucked back into this drum. When the heating means 15 and 16 are constituted by sources of infrared radiation, the wet linen is directly heated, through the perforations of the drum 3, by these sources of radiation.

In the example illustrated, between the heating means 15 and 16 and the rear 17 and front 18 walls of the body of the dryer 1 are mounted respectively thermally insulating plates 19, 20 and / or reflectors not shown which prevent significant losses. of thermal energy emitted by the heating means 15 and 16.

In the dryer 1, the means for creating a current of air passing through the device comprise on the one hand inside the body 2, a fan 22 and on the other hand openings 23, 24, 25 formed respectively in the lower part of the rear wall 17 and in the upper part of the front wall 18 of the body 2 of the washing machine 1. The fan 22 by sucking outside air Fe through the opening or openings d entry 23 into the washing machine 1 and by driving the air mixture Fm, Fe through the outlet openings 24 25 towards the outside, creates an air movement Fm, Fe passing through the dryer 1.

During an operation of the dryer 1, the laundry drum 3 rotates; its ribs 11 lift the damp linen and expose it to the air circulating in the drum, which takes moisture from the linen, its fins 12 create symmetrical movements or currents of air Fa and Ff constituted by a radial outlet from the hot air charged with moisture taken from the linen by the holes 7 of the side wall of the drum in the space surrounding this drum and a reentry in this drum 3 through the holes 7 of the flanges 9 and 10, air in this space which is heated by heating means 15 and 16 when these heating means consist of electric heating resistors, and its fan 23 draws in outside air Fe through the inlet opening or openings 23, adds it to the mixture Fm or Fa, Ff of hot air charged with humidity to renew the latter and discharges outside the device through the openings 24, 25 an amount of this set of mixed air Fm, Fe equivalent to that of the outside air Fe sucked in, and ev This gradually reduces the moisture extracted from the laundry until the end of the drying operation. A high-flow air circulation loop Fa, Fb, Ff and a discharge or dehumidification loop Fe at low flow are thus formed in the dryer 1. The flow rate of each of these loops is adjustable, which prevents the discharge of hot, unsaturated humid air outside the device. When the heating means 15 and 16 are constituted by sources of infrared radiation, the wet linen is directly heated by these sources while the air in the space surrounding the drum 3 before it is returned to this drum, does not not appreciably influenced by these sources of radiation. The air circulating in the drum 3 draws moisture from hot, damp laundry heated directly by these sources of infrared radiation. The dryer also includes at its lower part a tank 28 for receiving condensation water.

According to a first variant embodiment diagrammatically illustrated in FIGS. 3 and 4, a tumble dryer 30 comprises a preferably thermally insulating body 31, a front door 38, a laundry drum 32 similar to the laundry drum 3 of the above example. , held in a horizontal position by two sets of front and rear rollers 33 and 34, and rotated by an electric motor 35 through a transmission system 36 and a friction roller 37. The laundry drum 32 includes holes or perforations 39 both in its side wall 40 and in its front 41 and rear 42 flanges, and parallel fins 43 longitudinal or helically on its side wall 40.

These fins 43 create, during the rotation of the drum 32, a vacuum and an air draft inside the latter, which generates two movements or air currents Fa and Ff symmetrical with respect to a median transverse plane 44 of the drum 32 , formed on the one hand by air currents Fa exiting radially by the side wall 40 of the drum 32 and returning axially by the rear flange 42 and on the other hand by air currents Ff exiting radially by the side wall 40 of the drum 32 and returning axially through the front flange 41. These rotating fins 43 also constitute means creating a third movement or air flow Fm around the drum 32 in the direction of rotation of the latter, formed by a mixture of current of air Fa and Ff. Before entering the drum 32, the air streams Fa and Ff are respectively heated by heating means 45 and 46 when they are constituted by electric heating resistors. When these heating means 45 and 46 are constituted by infrared sources of a known type, the wet linen is directly heated by these sources while the air currents Fa and Ff do not undergo an appreciable influence from these sources.

The dryer 30 comprises in its lower part, below the drum 32, a condenser 48 which provides condensation and a progressive evacuation of the moisture extracted from the linen transported by the current Fm of air or air mixture Fa and Ff charged with moisture leaving the laundry drum 32.

In the example illustrated in FIGS. 3 and 4, the condenser 48 which is an air-cooled condenser sent by a blower 49 of the tangential turbine type comprises on the one hand parallel transverse fins of condensation 50 projecting inwards of the dryer 30 and orthogonal to the horizontal axis 52 of rotation of the laundry drum 32, and on the other hand parallel longitudinal cooling fins 53, projecting outwards from the dryer 30 and oriented parallel to the direction of the cooling air sent by the blower 49.

During an operation of the dryer 30, the laundry drum 32 rotates, its ribs 55 lift the wet laundry and expose it to the air circulating in this drum, which takes moisture from the laundry, its fins 43 create on the one hand symmetrical movements or streams of air Fa and Ff constituted by a radial outlet of the hot air charged with moisture taken from the laundry by the holes 39 of the side wall 40 of the drum in the space surrounding this drum, and reentry into this drum through the holes 39 of the flanges 41, 42, of air in this space, heated by heating means 45, 46, when these heating means are constituted by electric heating resistors and on the other hand, a movement or current of hot air charged with humidity Fm (coming from a mixture of hot and humid air Fa and Ff) around the drum 32, and force this hot air charged with humidity Fm to come into contact with the condenser fins 50 of the condenser 48. The humi Dity extracted from the laundry is thus condensed and discharged to the outside of the dryer 30 by a pipe not shown or stored in a removable receptacle not shown. To avoid a significant loss of thermal energy emitted by the heating means 45, 46, insulating plates 56, 57 are mounted between the latter and walls of the adjacent bodywork 31.

Le sèche linge 58 comprend un tambour à linge 65 tournant autour d'un axe horizontal 66.According to a second alternative embodiment, diagrammatically illustrated in FIGS. 5 and 6, a dryer 58 comprises a bodywork 59 similar to that 31 of the first variant, preferably thermally insulating, and comprising a front access opening 60 and a condenser 61 with air cooling sent by a turbine blower 62 in the lower part of the body, below the laundry drum 65. The condenser 61 is provided with condensation fins 63 parallel, orthogonal to the axis of rotation 66 drum, projecting towards the inside of the body 59 and cooling fins 64, parallel, projecting towards the outside of the dryer 58. The dryer 58 comprises a laundry drum 65 rotating about an axis horizontal 66.

Means for creating a vacuum and a draft of air inside the laundry drum 65 or means for creating air currents are formed on the one hand by a ring of spaced apart longitudinal fins, parallel 72 rotating concentrically around this laundry drum 65 and on the other hand by holes or perforations 67 both in the side wall 68 and in the rear 69 and front flanges 70 of this drum 65. During operation of the tumble dryer 58, the laundry drum 65 rotates at a speed of the order of 50 revolutions / minute, lifts the damp laundry by its ribs 73 and exposes it to the air circulating in the drum, and the crown of fins parallel 72 rotates at a speed of the order of 500 revolutions / minute concentrically with this drum 65 and creates through the side walls 68 and flanges 69, 70 provided with holes or perforations 67, a depression inside this drum 65 generating two movements or air currents Fa and Ff symé triques with respect to a median transverse plane 74 of the laundry drum 65 formed by streams of hot air charged with moisture extracted from the laundry Fa, Ff emerging radially from this drum through the side wall 68 and by streams of air Fa, Ff heated by the heating means 76, 77 when these means are constituted by electric heating resistors, entering axially in this drum through the flanges 69, 70. This ring of fins 72 in rotation also constitutes means creating in the space surrounding the laundry drum 65 and the ring of fins 72, a movement or stream of air Fm formed of a mixture of hot air charged with humidity extracted from the linen Fa, Ff so that this mixture of hot air charged with humidity is forced to come into contact with the condensation fins 63 of the condenser 61 and to get rid of its humidity there. During the drying operation, the moisture extracted from the laundry to be dried in the drum 65 is thus gradually trapped in this condenser 61, and discharged outside the dryer by known means not shown. When the heating means 76, 77 are constituted by sources of infrared radiation, the wet linen is directly heated by these sources, through the perforations of the drum, while the air in the space surrounding the drum 65 does not undergo a significant influence from these sources.

According to a variant embodiment not shown, the air-cooled condenser 61, 62 is replaced by means creating a current Fe of air coming from outside, passing through the device through the space surrounding the laundry drum analogous to means 22, 23, 24 of the example illustrated in FIGS. 1 and 2.

In the example illustrated in FIGS. 5 and 6, the ring of fins 72 is formed of spaced longitudinal fins 79. These fins are parallel either to the generators of the laundry drum 65, or to the propellers chosen on the side wall 68 of this drum, and assembled in a ring to be fixed on a rotary support 80 coaxial with this drum and provided with radial arms 81. The ring of fins 72 is rotated by an electric motor 83 through a belt 84 and the drum laundry 65 is in turn driven in rotation by this ring of fins 72 through a known speed reduction system 85. The laundry drum 65 and the ring of fins 72 are preferably respectively supported in a horizontal position, at the level of their front edges, by sets of free rotating rollers 86, 87 carried by fixed supports 88 and one or more pivoting clamping supports 89. To avoid a significant loss of thermal energy emitted by the heating means 76, 77 of the thermally insulating plates 91, 92 are mounted between the latter and adjacent body walls 9.

In another exemplary embodiment illustrated in FIG. 7, a dryer 100 comprises a body 101 preferably thermally insulating and comprising a top loading opening 102 and a condenser 104 with air cooling sent by a turbine blower 105 in the lower part of the body below a laundry drum 106 rotating around a horizontal axis 108 and provided with an access opening 114, closed by a door 115.

Des plaquettes thermiquement isolantes 128, 129 sont montées entre les moyens de chauffants 121, 122 et les parois de la carrosserie 101.Means for creating a vacuum and an air draw inside the laundry drum 106 or means for creating air currents comprise, on the one hand, holes or perforations 109 both in the wall lateral 110 and in the rear flanges 111 and front 112 of this laundry drum 106, on the other hand, longitudinal or helical parallel fins 118 formed on the outer lateral wall 110 of this drum 106. These fins 118 create during the rotation of a drum 106 a depression and an air draw inside the latter, generating on the one hand two movements or air currents Fa and Ff symmetrical with respect to a median transverse plane 120 of this drum 106, one formed by air currents Fa radially exiting through the side wall 110 of the drum 106 and returning axially by the rear flange 111, and the other by air currents Ff exiting radially through the side wall 110 of the drum 106 and returning axially by l e front flange 112, and on the other hand a third movement or air flow Fm around this drum 106 in the direction of rotation of the latter, formed by a mixture of part of these air currents Fa and Ff. Before entering the drum 106, through the rear flanges 111 and front 112, the air currents Fa and Ff are respectively heated by heating means 121 and 122 when these are constituted by electric heating resistors. When these heating means 121 and 122 are constituted by infrared sources of a known type, the damp linen in the drum 106 is directly heated by these sources while the air currents Fa and Ff do not undergo an appreciable influence from these sources. Thermally insulating plates 128, 129 are mounted between the heating means 121, 122 and the walls of the body 101.

The condenser 104 which, being located in the lower part of the dryer 100, below the drum 106, and having condensation fins 130 projecting inside the body 101 and arranged orthogally to the axis of rotation 108 of this drum 106 and of the cooling fins 131 projecting from the outside, ensures a condensation and a progressive evacuation of the moisture extracted from the laundry transported by the current Fm of air, charged with moisture leaving the laundry drum 106 The laundry drum 106 is held in a horizontal position by two sets of front 135 and rear 136 rollers and rotated by an electric motor 137 through a transmission system 138 with friction roller 139.

The symmetrical movements or air currents Fa, Ff generated by the means for creating a vacuum and a call for air inside the laundry drum described above make it possible to effectively bring the air into contact damp laundry subjected to drying, to avoid unused paths of air through the laundry drum, due to a lack of contact with damp laundry, especially when this wet laundry is in small quantity, to accelerate the extraction humidity of the wet laundry, and thus achieve an appreciable saving compared to a drying operation of the wet laundry in a known dryer where the stream of drying air passes through the laundry drum only in a transverse direction, in other words enters the drum through a part of its side wall and leaves this drum through a part of its side wall of this drum.

In the means of creating a depression and a call of air inside the laundry drum or means of creating air currents, in the examples of FIGS. 1 to 7, the parallel spaced fins are either curved fins or straight radial fins, that is to say a - say perpendicular to the tangents to the drum at their projection points on the latter, either inclined straight fins relative to the radial directions of this drum, in other words forming an angle alpha with the radial directions or these tangents to the drum at their projection points on this last.

In the case where the heating means are constituted by sources of infrared radiation, the heat of vaporization necessary for the evaporation of the water retained by the load of linen subjected to drying is brought directly to the wet surface of this linen to dry, and the heat transfer between the heating source and the load in wet linen does not depend on the filling coefficient of the drum. In addition, in the movements or air currents inside the device can be distinguished a loop of circulating air at high flow and a loop of exhaust air or dehumidification at low flow. The high flow circulating air loop allows high air passage speeds to be obtained, thereby improving the heat exchange coefficients and contributing accordingly with the humidity exhaust air loop at low flow rate, to effectively obtain an absence of rejection outside the apparatus of enormous quantities of hot and humid air, and at the same time a good performance, by an absence of rejection outside of the unsaturated moist hot air apparatus, thanks to the ability of the apparatus to regulate, independently of one another, the flow rate of the circulating air loop and the flow rate of the air loop d evacuation of humidity or dehumidification.

In addition, the means for creating a vacuum and an air draw inside the laundry drum or means for creating air currents described above rotate much slower than a power unit. ventilator of known devices, hence a low level of operating noise of the device is recorded.

A relatively simple structure of the apparatus described above achieves a low industrial cost without compromising the reliability of the manufactured device.
