Abstract

A flat core (1) made of elastic material, for example plastic foam, is provided with continuous holes (2). Support beads (3) are placed loosely in these openings (2) and the latter are closed by elastic outer layers (4) which are bonded on on both sides. Thus a mattress is obtained in a simple manner which has a relatively large number of firm support bodies located in a central zone and soft elastic outer layers. On the outside, the mattress corresponds to a customary mattress and can correspondingly be used as any customary mattress. However, with the inserted support bodies, it causes an uneven, punctiform support of a person lying on the mattress with locally increased pressure, which brings about a desired massage effect and, additionally, due to a piston effect favours forced ventilation towards the top. <IMAGE>

Description

The present invention relates to a mattress according to the preamble of claim 1. Such a mattress is known from GB-A 2 073 015, cylindrical support bodies being firmly inserted into cylindrical openings in the central zone of the mattress. With this structure, a local adaptation of the elasticity of the mattress is sought but no massage effects or the like physiological effect, and the manufacture is cumbersome and complex due to the installation of the support body.

From GB-A 2 084 010 a mattress is known in which flat permanent magnets with a convex surface on one side are inserted. These magnets work exclusively through their magnetic field, because they are too flat for effective local support of the body. Otherwise, any such effect would only be one-sided, i.e. asymmetrical so that the mattress cannot be used in any position.

Mattresses are also known which have protruding, hemispherical or pyramid-shaped bodies which are molded onto or attached to a flat base and which serve to directly support a person who is sitting or lying down (DE-A 3 524 236 and 3 525 960). These mattresses with elevations and depressions attached to the outside are perceived as disturbing and are physiologically unsatisfactory with prolonged use.

The aim of the present invention is now to provide a mattress which is easy to manufacture, corresponds externally to the conventional mattress shapes and can also be used and combined in any way, and which has the desired physiological effect without negative side effects in a particularly advantageous manner. This goal is achieved according to the characterizing part of claim 1. The invention also relates to a particularly simple, easily mechanizable manufacturing method for the mattress, which is specified in claim 8.

  • Fig. 1 eine Teildraufsicht auf einen käfigartigen Matratzenkern,
The invention will now be explained in more detail with reference to an embodiment shown in the drawing. The drawing shows:
  • 1 is a partial plan view of a cage-like mattress core,
  • 2 is a partial spatial view of this mattress core with inserted support balls,
  • Fig. 3 is a schematic partial section through the mattress provided with elastic outer layers and
  • 4 shows a corresponding schematic partial section through the finished mattress:

A mattress core 1 with through holes 2 is prepared for the manufacture of the mattress. In this cage-like core 1, balls 3 are then inserted into each opening according to FIG. 2, which can preferably be done fully automatically, mechanically. The core is then glued on both sides with elastic outer layers 4. These outer layers are shown in two parts in FIG. 3, but they can also be made in one part. According to FIG. 4, further pads, for example vegetable or animal natural fibers or synthetic nonwovens 5, can then be placed on which the edging material is applied. The result is a mattress of an outwardly customary shape. The core 1 and the outer layers 4 can consist of cold foam, latex foam rubber, a spring core, vegetable or animal fibers or combinations thereof. A foam is preferably used for the core 1. The inserted support bodies fulfill the function of reinforcing the central zone. The outer layers are preferably made of foam softer foam or latex foam and thus act as a cuddly, anatomically correct cushion.

The support body 3 can consist of hard foam, rubber, wood, plastic, polystyrene, metal or the like compared to the other parts of solid material. The support bodies preferably also have a certain elasticity, even if they are much less compressible than the other components. They can preferably have the spherical shape shown, but a wide variety of other shapes with convex support surfaces are conceivable, for example ellipsoidal support bodies, cylindrical support bodies with convex end faces, roller-shaped support bodies with convex knobs or support bodies. To save material and weight, they can preferably be hollow, but they can also be filled with certain materials, for example water or air. The support balls 3 preferably have a diameter of 25-50 mm and the outer layers 4 preferably have the same thickness of approximately 15-40 mm. These dimensions result in optimal conditions for supporting a person with increased pressure in places, smaller or softer support bodies being used for lighter persons and larger or harder support bodies for heavier persons. In addition, the outer layers 4 can be made firmer for higher body weight. Thanks to the embedding of the support body between two elastic outer layers 4, there is a progressive pressure increase, i.e. The more the outer layers are loaded in places, the more the balls penetrate them, the larger the effective support surface and the greater the local load. The support bodies 3 located in the continuous recesses 2 can act as pistons, which displace the air upwards and thus bring about good ventilation and oxygen supply to the person lying down. Instead of a cage for the support body, which consists of a core 1 with continuous holes and cover layers glued on both sides, two shell-like halves with non-continuous recesses could be provided. For the production, the support balls 3 could now be inserted into the recesses of the one shell and the opposite shell then placed and glued. The result is a corresponding structure with supporting bodies held loosely in recesses and wall parts lying on both sides outside the same, which form elastic outer layers.
