Wenn durch Bruch oder Verschleiß die Schnecken-Schneckenrad-Antriebsverbindung unterbrochen wird, versucht die Wickelwelle unter der Last des Rolltorpanzers im Sinne einer Absturzbewegung über die Betriebsdrehzahl hinaus zu rotieren und übt dabei über das zugeordnete Schneckenrad auf die Schnecke der Absturzsicherung eine Kraft in Richtung deren Axialverschiebeführung aus, ohne die Schnecke wegen des selbsthemmenden Eingriffes zu drehen. Hierbei wird eine Nenndrehzahl des Stellmotors unterstellt, die nur etwas größer werden kann als diejenige, die erforderlich ist, um im Normalbetrieb die Relativlage der Schnecke bzw. deren Achse am Anschlag gerade einzuhalten. Unter dieser Voraussetzung wird bei sich beim Absturz des Tores schneller drehendem Schneckenrad die Schnecke bzw. deren Achse in Richtung fest auf den Anschlag gedrückt und dort abgebremst in dieser Lage fixiert. Aufgrund der Selbsthemmung zwischen Schnecke und Schneckenrad wird auch diesen und das damit abstürzende Torblatt angehalten.
