Description

The invention relates to an arc quenching chamber, in particular for circuit breakers, consisting of parallel or fan-shaped quenching plates which are fixed in their position in their area opposite the arc entry by a U-shaped holder made of insulating material, the holder having gas outlet openings and the holder having the gaps are closed between the quenching plates on the area opposite the arc entry.

Modern circuit breakers place very high demands on the switching capacity. The dimensions should remain small, a requirement that is not only made for reasons of economy, but has even been incorporated into national and international standards.

In order to achieve the required values, it is necessary to carry out the contact separation as quickly as possible after the short circuit has occurred, the resulting arc having to be led away quickly from the contact pieces. This avoids inadmissible heating of the contact pieces on the one hand, and on the other hand the arc voltage is quickly built up by lengthening and dividing the arc, thereby limiting the short-circuit current. The arc extinguishing system of a circuit breaker largely depends on whether the circuit breaker achieves the required switching capacity.

DE-AS 26 16 825, AT-PS 279 718, AT-PS 355 664). Various forms of quenching plate packages have been proposed (cf. DE-AS 26 16 825, AT-PS 279 718, AT-PS 355 664). The quenching plates usually consist of a few millimeter thick iron sheets that are insulated from each other, parallel or fan-shaped are arranged. In the case of miniature circuit breakers, these sheets are either inserted directly into corresponding housing recesses or the packages are held together by suitable punched-out insulating material plates or molded parts and inserted as a component in the switch housing. The function of the chamber is therefore to divide and cool the arc. During the switch-off process, the arc formed between the opening contact pieces is blown towards the quenching plates, partly by the magnetic field of the switching elements, but partly by the suction effect of the quenching plate package. Due to the large-area contact of the arch pillar with the front edges of the metal cooling plates and immersion in the partition walls, the subdivision and heat removal takes place. The hot exhaust gases leave the quenching chamber through the gaps between the metal sheets, are further cooled and are then led through suitable ducts into the blow-out openings of the switch.

In the case of miniature circuit breakers, it should also be noted that blowing out the switch in the event of severe short-circuit cut-offs must not endanger people or property. The blow-out openings of the switch should therefore be arranged so that the free escape of the hot arc gases is largely prevented. FR-PS 1 060 926 describes a U-shaped arc quenching chamber in which the gas outlet openings in the area opposite the arc inlet are arranged in a zigzag shape, whereas the two side surfaces of the arc chamber are closed and only serve to position the quenching plates. Such a solution is probably advantageous in the case of larger switching devices in which there is sufficient space outside the outlet openings arranged in this way to lead the entirety of the arc gases to the outside in a sufficiently large duct, but this is often associated with difficulties in the case of small circuit breakers.

In order to achieve a good cooling effect on the exhaust gases with small dimensions and to prevent short-circuits from partial arcs, AT-PS 343 212 includes an arc quenching chamber consisting of parallel or fan-shaped quenching plates, which are separated by a * in their area opposite the arc entry U-shaped, gas outlet openings in zigzag-shaped arrangement having molded part made of insulating material have been fixed in their position, in which the gaps between the quenching plates on the side opposite the arc inlet slot are closed and the molded part on the two side surfaces, one opening for each Gap has and the openings located on each side surface are arranged in two rows in a zigzag shape. As a result, the openings of not immediately adjacent gaps come to lie in a row.

The invention has for its object to further improve an arc quenching chamber of the type mentioned and to reduce the risk of reignition of the arc with good cooling effect on the exhaust gases.

According to the invention, this is achieved in that a gas outlet opening is provided on the side surfaces for each gap between two adjacent extinguishing plates in the holder for the extinguishing plates, the gas outlet openings of adjacent columns being provided on opposite sides of the holder.

Darüber hinaus gestattet es die erfindungsgemäße Anordnung der Gasaustrittsöffnungen, den Querschnitt dieser Öffnungen größer zu gestalten als bei der Anordnung zick-zack-förmiger Öffnungen gemäß der AT-PS 343 212.Due to the arrangement of the gas outlet openings in the holder according to the invention, the arc gases of adjacent gaps between the quenching plates are blown out on different sides, so that a short circuit between hot exhaust gases emerging from different chambers is avoided. In addition, the arrangement of the gas outlet openings according to the invention allows the To make the cross section of these openings larger than in the arrangement of zigzag openings according to AT-PS 343 212.

In a preferred embodiment of the invention it is provided that the gas outlet openings are designed as elongated slots.

  • Fig. 1 in Seitenansicht eine Lichtbogenlöschkammer,
Further details and features of the invention will become apparent from the following description in which reference is made to the drawing. It shows
  • 1 is a side view of an arc quenching chamber,
  • 2 shows a section along the line II-II in FIG. 1,
  • Fig. 3 shows a section along the line III-III in Fig. L and
  • Fig. 4 is a diagram used a holder used in the arc quenching chamber according to the invention.

The arc quenching chamber 1 shown in FIG. 1 has several quenching plates 2 which are arranged parallel to one another. In addition to the parallel arrangement of the quenching plates 2, a fan-shaped arrangement of quenching plates, as is known per se from FIG. 3 of AT-PS 343 212, is also possible. The quenching plates 2 are fixed in their position by a holder 3. For this purpose, the extinguishing plates 2 have lugs on opposite side edges which engage in holes 4 in the side surfaces of the holder 3. In addition, the extinguishing plates 2 fixing projections can be provided on the web of the substantially U-shaped profiled holder 3, each projection engaging between two extinguishing plates 2. As can be seen from Figs. 2 and 3, the gaps between the individual quenching plates 2 are on the arc occurs opposite side closed by the web part of the bracket 3.

Outlet openings 5 and 6 are provided in the side surfaces of the holder 3, respectively. are arranged in such a way that adjacent gaps arranged between the quenching plates 2 are open to opposite sides of the arc quenching chamber 1.

Although the gas outlet openings 5 and 6 are designed as elongated slots in the exemplary embodiment shown, circular openings, or several openings on each side of the holder 3, can also be provided. It is only essential for the invention that adjacent gaps between the quenching plates 2 are open towards opposite sides of the arc quenching chamber 1.
