Description

Pflanzentopf für Pflanzen mit einem verringerten Wurzelvolumen.Plant pot for plants with a reduced root volume.
The invention relates to a plant pot for plants with a reduced root volume.
According to the ancient Japanese art of bonsai, it is known to raise small trees a few centimeters high from seeds or from grafts, cuttings and offshoots of normal trees. The special treatment of the plants is based not only on pruning and concentrating the roots, pinching out the shoots and low fertilization, but above all on growing them in small pots with solid soil.
Nachteilig ist hierbei, daß die Wurzelkörbchen über sehr viele Öffnungen mit pflanzenspezifischen Durchmessern verfügen müssen, was die Herstellung und Lagerhaltung verteuert, und daß tägliche Feuchtigkeitskontrollen und Bewässerungen erforderlich sind.DE-PS 26 02 107 proposes the use of root baskets about the size of a foxglove, through the numerous small openings of which the root tips cannot penetrate from the inside out, but which allow nutrients and moisture to enter from the outside in, since the said root baskets enter a growing medium - be it in a container or in the field. The disadvantage here is that the root basket must have a large number of openings with plant-specific diameters, which makes production and storage more expensive, and that daily moisture checks and irrigation are required.
The invention is based, to avoid these disadvantages, to propose a reduced root potty that only has one or two openings for the task has access to liquid that takes place automatically over longer, multi-day periods.
The invention solves the underlying object by a plant pot with an outer collar at its opening, which is supported on the opening edge of an outer container which is filled with water into which a wick protrudes, which has one or two through openings in the plant pot with its nutrient substrate filling in Ve - bond stands.
In DE-PS 27 44 143 (Figure 3) is already disclosed to attach a root basket free-floating in a container surrounding it, the bottom of which is covered with water and guides the water through a wick into the root basket. The disadvantage here, however, is that there must be a gap between the root basket and the container for the purpose of water refill, which leads to useless water evaporation and bridging it requires its own supporting structure that keeps the root basket floating.
According to the proposal according to the invention, the useless water evaporation mentioned is also prevented by eliminating the own support structure.
The outer container according to the invention also expediently has a viewing window, so that the respective water level of the water supply can be checked with ease.
An embodiment of the invention is explained in more detail below with reference to the drawing.
Es zeigen : Figur 1 : einen Außenbehälter in Seitenansicht etwa in natürlicher Größe,Show it : FIG. 1: an outer container in a side view approximately in natural size,
Figur 2 : den Pflanzentopf in Seitenansicht in natürlicher Größe undFigure 2: the plant pot in side view in natural size and
Figure 3: the two nested containers and with plant filling in longitudinal section.
As the illustration of the plant pot 1 in FIG. 1 shows in its natural size, this plant pot is dimensioned much smaller than other conventional plant pots. This guarantees that a plant grown in such a reduced plant pot can only develop a greatly reduced root volume, so that reduced plants 9 occur above the soil.
The most important effort in the cultivation and maintenance of such reduced plants, however, is the regular, daily hydration, since the small bale of earth in the reduced plant pot can only store a greatly reduced amount of liquid and dries out very quickly.
In the present device, the plant pot 2 has an outer collar 5 at its opening, with which it can be supported on the opening edge 11 of an outer container 1. A water supply 7 can then be accommodated in the space between the outer container 1 and the plant pot 2, which only needs to be added from time to time. The separation between the plant pot 2 and the outer container 1 for the purpose of water refilling is very great easy to do, because for this purpose the plant pot 1 is gripped only with the fingers on the outer collar 5 and held in a raised position during the water refill.
The plant pot 2 has no openings apart from one or two openings 6 and is therefore inexpensive to produce as a smooth-walled container with the usual injection molding processes. The two said openings 6, 6 are almost completely closed by a wick 3 inserted through them, which protrudes with its two ends into the water reservoir 7 below. The fine root tips present in the interior of the plant pot 2 thus have no possibility of leaving the area of the plant pot, and the desired constriction of the root ball and the reduced root volume result.
Since a viewing fan 4 can also be provided in the outer container 1, the respective water level 10 can be optically monitored over any longer period of time.
The device described has particular advantages for the growing phase in nursery businesses. Many plant pots 1 can be observed and looked after side by side for a long time on a garden table that is only moistened on the surface. The wick ends emerging from the plant pots on both sides absorb sufficient water from the treatment table to be kept moist, so that the plant pots can be used without an outer container during the growing phase. After the completion of the cultivation phase, only those plant pots are selected and placed in an outer container for the purpose of sale that show a good cultivation result. Plant pots with error results are held back and duckers thrown away or used again after emptying in the cultivation phase without using an outer container.
