Abstract
Description
The invention relates to a device for the supported movement of a patient's leg, comprising a splint assigned to the thigh and a splint assigned to the lower leg, which two rails are movably connected to one another in the region of the patient's knee by means of at least one joint.
There is a need to allow legs to move after injuries or after operations during the healing process in order to prevent the leg muscles or joints from being damaged as a result of the lack of movement, or to support the healing process by movements accelerate. This also applies to fractures of the thigh bone and the lower leg bone as well as in particular for injuries to the knee joint.
It is known to either splint legs or provide a cast after surgery to heal injuries, particularly fractures or other damage. However, as is also known, the leg muscles, the ligaments and the joints are damaged, in particular weakened, as a result of a lack of movement if the leg is stopped for a longer period of time. In contrast, the healing process is accelerated by a supported movement of one leg.
In order to enable the supported movement of the leg required for this purpose, devices are known which have a splint associated with the thigh and a splint associated with the lower leg, the splint associated with the thigh being pivotable at its free end about an axis which is normally oriented to the longitudinal extent of the device and furthermore opposite the splint assigned to the lower leg the rail assigned to the thigh can be pivoted by means of a hinge joint. However, these known devices do not meet the requirements placed on them because the pivot axis of the splint associated with the thigh is far outside the axis passing through the patient's hip joint and because the hinge joint located in the region of the patient's knee is only a simple pivoting movement of the lower leg assigned rail relative to the rail assigned to the thigh, which pivotability differs largely from the movement caused by the knee. Since such a device thus causes a flexion movement of the two splints, which differs greatly from the natural flexion movement of the patient's leg, when the patient's leg is moved by means of this device, a stress on the joints, namely the hip joint and in particular the knee joint, is caused , through which the healing effect sought by the movement is greatly reduced or even the healing is hindered.
From DE-PS 24 32 766 an artificial knee joint is known, which is formed by two crossing arms. It is therefore known from these references that the construction of the knee is optimally imitated by such a construction.
In contrast, the invention is based on the object of providing a device by which a patient's leg can be moved in a supported manner in a manner which best corresponds to the natural movement of the leg, so that stresses on the joints caused by the movement of the leg are avoided. This is achieved according to the invention in that the joint connecting the upper leg to the lower leg associated rail by a pair of known, crossing each other Handlebars, which are located laterally outside the patient's knee, are formed and that the rail associated with the thigh can be pivoted relative to a support frame by means of a pivot bearing which is located laterally outside the patient's hip joint.
In this case, the two rails are preferably connected to one another by two pairs of crossing arms, which are located laterally outside the patient's knee. Such a device enables a supported movement of a patient's leg, which is as close as possible to the orthopedic movement.
Furthermore, a support for the patient's foot can be provided in the region of the free end of the splint assigned to the lower leg, the support being adjustable in its angular position to the longitudinal axis of this splint and pivotable about an axis oriented transversely to this splint. In addition, the rail associated with the lower leg is designed with supports which are movably guided along the supporting frame. For the controlled movement of the two rails relative to the support frame, a servomotor can be provided which is designed with a spindle which can be screwed into a nut arranged on the supports for the rail assigned to the lower leg. As an alternative to this, a drawstring can be provided, by means of which the two rails can be moved relative to the supporting frame by the patient himself against the effect of the gravity caused by the weight of the leg.
Preferably, at least one of the two rails is formed by spars which are aligned parallel to one another and which are connected to one another by means of at least one rigid bracket and which have supports for holding them of the patient's leg are formed. In order to enable the necessary adaptation to patients of different sizes, at least one of the two rails can be adjustable in its effective lengths. For this purpose, the spars can be formed by tube pieces which are guided into one another and can be locked in their mutual positions by means of screws. Furthermore, the pivot bearing for holding the rail assigned to the thigh can be carried by a bar or the like, the position of which can be set and locked in the longitudinal direction and in the transverse direction to the supporting frame. In addition, the splint associated with the thigh can be formed with an obliquely protruding projection on which a handlebar connected to the support for the sole of the foot can be set and locked in different positions.

The height of the
The
As can be seen from FIG. 4 of the drawing, the
As further shown in Fig. 5, the
- In order to be able to carry out a supported movement of the leg 4 of the
patient 3, the thigh is fastened on the rail 21 associated therewith by means of acuff 72 and the lower leg is fastened on therail 22 assigned to the lower leg by means of asleeve 73. Then the tworails 21, 22 can be moved either by applying a pull by means of thetension band 61, which movement is supported by thesprings 60, or by means of theservomotor 62 by rotating the spindle 63 in theblock 64, thesupports 28 by means of theRollers 29 are horizontally moved back and forth in the guide rails 30 between adjustable stops 31. As a result, therail 22 associated with the lower leg is pivoted on the one hand by means of thejoints 23 relative to the rail 21 associated with the thigh and, on the other hand, the rail 21 associated with the thigh is pivoted about theaxis 26a. Since the swivel bearing 26 is located outside the patient's hip or hip joint, theaxis 26a coinciding with the swivel axis of the thigh, and furthermore thejoints 23, which, as explained above, optimally imitate the movement of the knee, laterally are located outside the knee joint of the patient's leg, this device optimally imitates the natural flexion movement of the leg, as a result of which the movement of the patient's leg can take place without any stress on the hip joint, the knee joint or the ankle joint. This promotes the healing process in the desired way.
Since the
The particular advantage of a device according to the invention is that it is pivotally mounted outside the hip joint, so that the patient can take such a position that the axis of this pivot bearing coincides with the pivot axis of the hip joint. Furthermore, since the
The device shown in the drawing is used to move a patient's right leg.
