  • a developer composition was prepared by repeating the procedure of Example III with the exception that there was selected as the carrier coating a blend, ratio 3:2, of a polymer mixture of polyvinylidenefluoride, Kynar 301F, and high density 10.962 grams/milliliters of polyethylene FA520, available from USI Chemical Company. About 340 grams of the polymer blend, that is a 0.5 percent coating weight, was added. There resulted on the carrier particles a triboelectric charge of -29.8 microcoulombs per gram.   • the conductivity values were obtained as indicated herein. Specifically, these values were generated by the formation of a magnetic brush with the prepared carrier particles.
  • the brush was present within a one-electrode cell consisting of the magnet as one electrode and a nonmagnetic steel surface as the opposite electrode. A gap of 2.54 mm was maintained between the two electrodes and a 10 volt bias was applied in this gap. The resulting current through the brush was recorded and the conductivity was calculated based on the measured current and geometry.
  • the conductivity in mho-cm ⁇ 1 is the product of the current, and the thickness of the brush, (about 2.54 mm) divided by the product of the applied voltage and the effective electrode area.
  • triboelectric numbers in microcoulombs per gram they were determined by placing the developer materials in an 8 oz. glass jar, with 2.75 percent by weight toner compositions, placed on a Red Devil Paint Shaker and agitated for 10 minutes. Subsequently, the jar was removed and samples from the jar were placed in a tribo Faraday cage apparatus. The blow off tribo of the carrier particles was then measured.

Claims (16)

  1. Procédé pour la préparation de particules porteuses pour agent de marquage électrophotographique ayant des paramètres de conductivité sensiblement stables, qui comprend :
    le mélange de particules d'un matériau porteur avec un mélange de 10 à 90 pour cent en poids d'un polymère, et de 90 à 10 pour cent en poids d'un autre polymère, les deux polymères n'étant pas au voisinage immédiat l'un de l'autre dans la série triboélectrique;
    le mélange des particules porteuses et du mélange polymère à l'état sec pendant un temps suffisant pour permettre au mélange de polymères d'adhérer aux particules porteuses;
    le chauffage du mélange sec à une température de 93 à 288°C, afin que le mélange de polymères fonde et se fusionne aux particules porteuses, et
    le refroidissement des particules porteuses revêtues obtenues.
  2. Procédé selon la revendication 1, dans lequel les particules porteuses et le mélange de polymères sont chauffés pendant 10 à 60 minutes.
  3. Procédé selon la revendication 1 ou 2, dans lequel le mélange comprend 40 à 60 pour cent en poids de l'un des polymères, et de 60 à 40 pour cent en poids de l'autre polymère.
  4. Particules porteuses revêtues par un procédé selon l'une quelconque des revendications 1 à 3.
  5. Révélateur électrophotographique comprenant des particules porteuses revêtues selon la revendication 4, mélangées à des particules de résine d'agent de marquage pigmentées.
  6. Révélateur selon la revendication 5, dans lequel les particules de résine d'agent de marquage sont constituées de copolymères de styrène-méthacrylate, de copolymères de styrène-butadiène, de copolymères de styrène-acrylate, ou de polyesters.
  7. Révélateur selon la revendication 5 ou 6, dans lequel les particules de résine d'agent de marquage comportent des additifs d'augmentation de la charge.
  8. Révélateur selon la revendication 7, dans lequel les additifs sont des halogénures d'alkyl pyridinium, des compositions de sulfate organique, ou des composés de sels d'ammonium quaternaires.
  9. Révélateur selon l'une quelconque des revendications 5 à 8, dans lequel le matériau constituant le noyau porteur est l'acier, le fer, le nickel, des ferrites ou leurs mélanges.
  10. Révélateur selon l'une quelconque des revendications 5 à 9, dans lequel les deux polymères sont le fluorure de polyvinylidène et le polyéthylène; le polyméthacrylate de méthyle et l'acétate de copolyéthylène vinyle; le fluorure de copolyvinylidène, le tétrafluoréthylène et le polyéthylène; le fluorure de copolyvinylidène, le tétrafluoréthylène et l'acétate de copolyéthylène vinyle; ou le polyméthacrylate de méthyle et le fluorure de polyvinylidène.
  11. Révélateur selon la revendication 10, dans lequel, lorsque l'un des polymères est le polyéthylène, il est présent sous sa forme à haute densité.
  12. Composition de particules porteuses pour agent de marquage électrophotographique comprenant des particules formant noyaux revêtues d'un revêtement comprenant une pellicule fondue d'un mélange d'un premier et d'un second polymères qui ne sont pas au voisinage immédiat l'un de l'autre dans la série triboélectrique, ce mélange étant sélectionné dans le groupe constitué du fluorure de polyvinylidène et du polyéthylène; du polyméthacrylate de méthyle et de l'acétate de copolyéthylène vinyle; du fluorure de copolyvinylidène, du tétrafluoréthylène et du polyéthylène; du fluorure de copolyvinylidène, du tétrafluoréthylène et de l'acétate de copolyéthylène vinyle; et du polyméthacrylate de méthyle et du fluorure de polyvinylidène.
  13. Composition de particules porteuses selon la revendication 12, dans laquelle le premier polymère est présent dans une proportion allant d'environ 10 pour cent en poids à environ 90 pour cent en poids, et le second polymère est présent dans une proportion allant d'environ 90 pour cent en poids à environ 10 pour cent en poids.
  14. Composition de particules porteuses selon la revendication 12, dans laquelle le premier polymère est présent dans une proportion allant d'environ 40 à environ 60 pour cent en poids et le second polymère est présent dans une proportion allant d'environ 60 à environ 40 pour cent en poids.
  15. Composition de particules porteuses selon l'une quelconque des revendications 12 à 14, dans laquelle les propriétés de charge triboélectrique des particules porteuses sont indépendantes de leurs conductivités, lesdites propriétés triboélectriques dépendant du rapport entre les polymères présents, et ladite conductivité dépendant du poids de revêtement des polymères sélectionnés.
  16. Composition de particules porteuses selon l'une quelconque des revendications 12 à 15, dans laquelle les particules porteuses ont une valeur de la charge triboélectrique allant d'environ -8 à environ -80 microcoulombs par gramme.
