The work platform is provided with two storage areas for pallets of bricks, and an automatic device for manipulating and laying the bricks. The apparatus also includes a palletholder housing comprising at least two compartments for respectively receiving a full pallet and an empty pallet, a basket for carrying the housing, and lifting devices for raising and lowering the basket, together with the pallet-holder housing to the level of the platform and for releasing the pallet-holder housing from the basket. The apparatus is particularly well suited for repairing the refractory lining of a metallurigical convertor.

Description

The present invention relates to an automated installation for briquetting the inner wall of an enclosure, comprising a working platform which can be moved vertically inside the enclosure and capable of rotating around the vertical axis thereof and provided with two brick pallet storage areas and automatic bricks handling and laying facilities.

Although not limited thereto, the invention relates more particularly to an installation for installing a refractory lining on the inner wall of a metallurgical converter.

Various installations of this kind (see for example DE-AS-1154131 and BE-A-760355) have already been proposed for performing, automatically, work which, until now, has generally been carried out manually under conditions extremely painful.

Unfortunately, the proposed installations did not solve all the outstanding problems, so it was not yet possible, until now, to take advantage, in a systematic way, of the complete automation of the briquetting converters.

On this subject, it should be remembered that the bricks have a frustoconical shape in order to be able to produce circular deposits conforming to the section of the converter. However, not only are all the converters not the same size, but in addition, the diameter of each converter is variable according to the height, since they generally have a substantially oval vertical section. Since it is not possible to make custom bricks, we make two specific types of bricks with different taper and, by alternation judicious in the choice of these types, we manage to achieve the desired curvatures. This means that two brick pallets, that is to say one of each type, must be permanently available on the working platform so that the brick placing robot can automatically do the choice according to an automatic control of the laying of bricks.

The pallets of bricks are raised or lowered on the platform by means of a freight elevator and, arrived at the level of the platform, they are loaded on a mobile trolley which moves them horizontally on their respective storage area. However, so that the installation can function correctly in an automated way. it is necessary that each pallet of bricks is always placed in a very precise place, that the bricks are always arranged in the same way and precisely on the pallets and that they are always oriented in the same way, one with respect to each other, and relative to the platform and relative to the handling robot. This condition is further complicated by the fact that the platform must be able to rotate around the vertical central axis to allow the robot to reach the entire periphery of the brickwork. Consequently, the pallet displacement system must operate in a precise and constant manner, without jerking to avoid a displacement of the bricks on the pallets and possibly a fall thereof and must, in addition, be associated with detection means for constantly monitor the correct position of the pallets and bricks.

Another problem is that of the size of the platform. When the pallets are lifted on the platform, the hoists and winches provided for this purpose are installed on the platform and their pulleys and cables obstruct the movement of the handling robot and constitute a permanent danger for the personnel on the platform.

Empty pallets can also cause congestion problems. In fact, when a full pallet is raised or lowered on the platform, it is first necessary to clear the empty pallet in order to be able to transfer the full pallet to the trolley, before hanging the empty pallet on the goods lift in view of his evacuation. Another possibility would be to lower the empty pallet first before reassembling a full pallet, but this is a waste of time.

The object of the present invention is to provide a new automated installation of the type described in the preamble, which makes it possible to eliminate all the problems set out above.

To achieve this objective, the invention provides an automated briquetting installation which is essentially characterized by a pallet carrier cage comprising at least two superposed compartments for receiving respectively a full pallet and an empty pallet, a basket for carrying said cage and means lifting device to raise or lower the basket with the pallet cage to the level of the platform and to disengage the pallet cage from the basket, as well as means for placing an empty pallet in the cage and removing the full pallet.

Said lifting means preferably comprises a first hoist lifting device, mounted under the platform for mounting the basket and the cage with a pallet of bricks to a waiting position below the platform and a second lifting device also mounted under the platform to take the pallet cage out of the basket and hoist it through a central opening, provided for this purpose in the platform, up to the level thereof.

The two lifting devices being mounted under the platform, their cables and winches do not clutter the surface of the platform and do not hinder the movement of the depalletizing robot and placing bricks. It is only thanks to the special design of the goods lift in the form of two separate lifting devices that the whole system has been able to be arranged under the platform and that it is nevertheless able to hoist the pallets up to 'at platform level. Furthermore, this particular design of the lifting system has only been made possible thanks to the pallet cage and its transport basket, the first lifting device acting on the basket, while the second acting on the cage.

The pallet rack, which is one of the characteristics of the present invention, is designed as a four-legged shelf, of a depth substantially equal to the length of the bricks, with a lower compartment for full pallets and an upper compartment for empty pallets.

The top of the cage is preferably designed as a container for receiving broken bricks.

The basket, which is also one of the characteristics of the invention, comprises a rectangular apron corresponding substantially to the horizontal section of the cage and provided at the four corners with notches for the passage of the feet of the cage, two vertical panels on the opposite longitudinal sides of the apron and whose height is at least equal to the height of the lower compartment of the cage and of the handles on the opposite lateral sides of the apron for attaching the lifting cables of said first lifting device.

The vertical panels of the basket preferably have a height corresponding to the sum of the height of the lower compartment and to half the height of the upper compartment. In this way, the lower compartment of the cage is completely closed and the upper compartment is at least partially closed when the cage is engaged in the basket, which prevents the bricks and possibly the pallet from sliding out of the cage when the latter is not lifted horizontally or oscillates when hung from the lifting cable or when it hits an obstacle. Another advantage of this basket design is that the pallets must be correctly positioned in the cage and the bricks must also be positioned correctly on the pallet, without lateral overhang, otherwise it is not possible to engage the cage on the basket or vice versa. The basket handles are at least half the height of the lower compartment height of the pallet cage. This measure ensures that the center of gravity of the basket and cage assembly is below the attachment points of the lifting cables, which improves stability during lifting and descent.

Limit switches are provided on the lower edge of the central opening of the platform and actuated by fingers provided at corresponding locations on the upper edges of the longitudinal panels of the basket to determine the waiting position and control automatically stop the first lifting device when said position is reached. The detectors and the corresponding fingers are preferably four in number and form part of a circuit control to determine if the four detectors were operated simultaneously, that is to say to check if the cage arrives horizontally in the standby position.

The second lifting device comprises, according to a preferred embodiment, two pairs of pivoting jacks provided at locations corresponding respectively to the positions of the four feet of the pallet carrier cage when the latter is in the waiting and sliding position. vertically along two pairs of rails under the action of two cylinders. Each pair of jacks is pivotally mounted on a cross member, so as to occupy a raised position away from the feet of the cage when the second lifting system is out of service.

To ensure correct orientation of the pallets and bricks, whatever the angular position of the platform, there is provided, on the ground, at the place where the pallets are supported, a rotating plate which rotates at the same time than the platform but which always automatically returns to an angular starting position. The pallets can therefore be placed on the tray using a forklift which can always approach in the same direction and the tray is rotated, before mounting the basket by the cables of the first lifting device, according to a angle corresponding to the orientation of the platform with respect to the starting position.

  • la figure 1 représente schématiquement une vue d'ensemble d'une installation de briquetage de la paroi intérieure d'un convertisseur ;
  • la figure 2 montre une vue partielle , en perspective, de la partie supérieure de l'installation ;
Other features and characteristics of the invention will emerge from the detailed description of a preferred embodiment, presented below, by way of illustration, with reference to the appended figures in which:
  • Figure 1 schematically shows an overview of a briquetting installation from the interior wall of a converter;
  • Figure 2 shows a partial perspective view of the upper part of the installation;
  • FIG. 3 shows an exploded perspective view of the pallet cage and the basket, and
  • Figures 4a, 4b, 4c show the cage lifting system, in different positions.

La figure 1 montre un convertisseur métallique 10, constitué d'une paroi métallique 14 avec le début d'un garnissage réfractaire 12, constitué d'un empilement de briques réfractaires posées les unes sur les autres à l'aide d'une installation selon la présente invention.FIG. 1 shows a metal converter 10, consisting of a metal wall 14 with the start of a refractory lining 12, consisting of a stack of refractory bricks placed one on the other using an installation according to the present invention.

This installation comprises a platform 16 resting, by means of a bearing 18 on an annular support 20. This support 20 is carried by several, for example three telescopic masts 22, actuated hydraulically to mount the platform 16 through the open bottom of the converter 10 and move the platform axially inside the converter. The telescopic masts 22 can be part of a rolling chassis 24 located on the work floor below the converter.

The annular support 20 comprises a series of radial crutches 26 for pressing the support 20 against the interior of the refractory lining and stabilizing the platform 16 allowing the rotation thereof relative to the support 20 without creating exaggerated vibrations and avoiding oscillations due to robot movement.

The brick pallets, two of which are on the platform 16 and are identified by the references 26 and 28 are brought, for example, using a forklift 30 vertically below the platform. form 16. According to one of the characteristics of the invention, they are deposited there on a rotary plate 32. This plate 32 can rotate, via an appropriate suspension, for example with rollers, around the axis 0 and this rotation is coordinated with that of the plate 16. The latter must, in fact, be able to rotate around the axis 0 so that the depalletization and brick-laying robot, represented by the reference 34, can reach the entire periphery of the converter. For example, each time the robot has completed a sector, the platform 16 is advanced by a certain angle, for example by 60 ° so that the robot can make the next sector. The plate 32 is rotated at the same time as the platform 16 by the same angle, but, when the carriage 30 brings a pallet of bricks, the plate 32 returns to an angular starting position which is always the same. As soon as the pallet is placed on the platform, it rotates to occupy an angular position corresponding to that of the platform 16, before the pallet is lifted by the lifting cables. Another possibility is to hold the plate 32 in a loading position and turn it, if necessary, to the desired position. This allows the carriage 30 to always bring the pallets in the same direction and to reassemble the pallets, despite this, in the correct orientation corresponding to the location on the platform 16.

According to one of the characteristics of the present invention, the pallets are raised on the platform using a pallet carrier cage 36 and a basket 38 shown in perspective in FIG. 3. The cage 36 is essentially consisting of two side walls 40, 42 connected together by three superimposed rectangular shelves 44, 46 and 48 and provided with four feet 50 identical to each other. The lower compartment delimited by the lower shelf 44, the intermediate shelf 46 and the two side walls 40 and 42 is intended to receive a pallet loaded with bricks 54. The upper compartment being between the intermediate shelf 46 and the upper shelf 48 is reserved for empty pallets 56. Since the front side and the dorsal side of the cage are open, the empty and full pallets can be inserted and extracted either from one side or the other of the cage, that is to say that they are presented in the same way seen from the back or from the front.

The depth of the cage 36 is equal to the width of the pallets 52 and of the bricks 54, so that the alignment of the bricks on the dorsal and front faces of the cage 36 constitutes an assurance of the correct positioning of the bricks 54 on a pallet 52 and of this with respect to the cage 36.

The upper shelf 48 constitutes, in addition, the bottom of a tank 58 surrounded by protruding side walls 40 and 42 and longitudinal edges on the front side and the dorsal side connecting the edges formed by the side walls 40, 42. This bin 58 is used to receive unusable bricks, such as, for example, broken or split bricks and makes it possible to take advantage of the descent of empty pallets to evacuate this type of bricks 58 from the working platform.

The basket 38 consists essentially of a rectangular apron 60 whose surface corresponds substantially to the horizontal section of the cage 36 and which is provided with two rectangular longitudinal panels 62, 64 erected vertically on the apron 60 and two lateral handles 66, 68 provided with openings for hanging the lifting cables. The apron 60 further comprises, at the four corners of the cutouts 70 whose shapes and locations correspond respectively to the sections and locations of the feet 50 of the cage 36 so that the cage 36 and the basket 38 can be fitted vertically one in the other as shown in Figure 2.

The side panels 62 and 64 of the basket 38 have a sufficient height so that they completely close the lower compartment and at least partially the upper compartment of the cage 36 when the latter is carried by the basket 38 as shown in FIG. 2. This arrangement has several advantages. First, the bricks 54 are well held in place, which is important for their correct positioning for automatic depalletization on the platform. In addition, neither the bricks nor the pallets can slip out of the cage 36 and cause the risk of accident during their fall.

In addition, if a brick 54 was not positioned correctly, or if the pallets were not correctly engaged in their respective compartment, it would be impossible to engage the basket 38 on the cage 36 or vice versa. In other words, the fact of being able to engage the basket 38 on the cage 36 as shown in FIG. 2, constitutes an assurance that the bricks 54 are correctly positioned.

The handles 66, 68 of the basket 38 are sufficiently high and preferably extend as far as the region of the intermediate shelf 46 of the cage 36, so that the center of gravity of the assembly formed by the cage 36 and the basket 38 is at a lower level than the attachment of basket 38 to the lifting cables in order to improve the stability of the load.

According to another characteristic of the invention, the lifting system is arranged below the platform 16 in a box 72. Both the bottom of the box 72 and the platform 16 have a central rectangular opening 74 respectively 76 allowing the passage of the pallet carrier cage 36. The mounting of the pallets on the platform form 16 is carried out in two stages. A first lifting system is used to raise, by means of a pair of cables 78, 80 hooked to the handles of the basket 38, the cage 36 as far as the housing 72. The cables 78 and 80 evolve around a series of guide and return pulleys mounted under the platform 16 around the opening 76 and are wound on a pair of winches 82, 84, one being visible on the Figure 1, the other in Figure 2. These winches 82, 84, are installed on the bottom of the housing 72 on either side of the opening 74. To ensure a horizontal rise of the cage 36, it is good understood that the operation of winches 82 and 84 must be perfectly synchronized.

To facilitate synchronization of the rise of the two cables 78, 80, it is also possible to wind them on a single winch divided into two axial parts.

This end of travel of the cage 36 is illustrated in FIGS. 4a and 4b. From the moment the cage 36 enters the housing 72 as shown in FIG. 4a, its speed is gradually reduced until it arrives in the position of FIG. 4b. The stopping of the winches is determined and controlled automatically by end-of-travel detectors represented schematically by the reference 86 and mounted on the edges of the opening 76 in the platform 16. These detectors 86 are actuated by fingers 88 provided at the corresponding locations of the side panels of the basket 38. These detectors 86 can be constituted by electromechanical sensors well known per se or other known sensors. It is preferable to provide two fingers 88 on each of the panels 62, 64 of the basket 38 and four corresponding detectors 86. These detectors 86 are preferably mounted in a control circuit which triggers a signal when all the detectors are not actuated simultaneously. Indeed, a triggering of only one of the detectors means that the basket 38 is not horizontal and that a check is necessary. The detectors 86 are advantageously associated with dampers, for example with spring 90 as shown in the figures, or hydraulic or pneumatic dampers known per se to ensure progressive stopping and absorb the inertia of the cage 36.

Quel que soit le nombre de détecteurs, et même si le panier 38 n'est pas horizontal, dès que l'un d'entre eux est actionné, les deux treuils 82, 84 sont arrêtés automatiquement, laissant la cage 36 dans la position d'attente illustrée sur la figure 4b.Whatever the number of detectors, and even if the basket 38 is not horizontal, as soon as one of them is actuated, the two winches 82, 84 are stopped automatically, leaving the cage 36 in the position d expectation illustrated in Figure 4b.

A second lifting system is used to hoist the cage 36 from the standby position to the position in FIG. 4c to bring the pallet located in the lower compartment of the cage 36 to the level of the platform 16.

This second lifting device comprises two hydraulic cylinders 92, 94 or motors mounted under the platform 16 in the housing 72 on either side of the openings 74 and 76. As is clearer from FIG. 2, the rod of the cylinders 92, 94, which is preferably telescopic, carries a pair of pulleys 96 around which pass two cables or chains 98, 100 fixed by one of their ends to the housing 72 or to the jack 92, 94 and by the other end to a cross member 102 vertically movable between a pair of lateral rails 104, 106.

The opposite cylinder 94, only visible on the Figures 4, acts, in the same way as the cylinder 92, by means of two pulleys and two cables on a cross member 108 movable vertically between two side rails.

The commissioning of the cylinders 92, 94, which must, of course, be operated at the same time and in a synchronized manner, causes the cross members 102 and 108 to go up along their respective rail. The path traveled by the cross members 102 and 108 is twice that of the rods of the cylinders 92 and 94 because of the return of the cables over the pulleys.

Each of the crosspieces 102, 108 comprises a pair of jacks 110, 114 respectively 116, 118. These jacks are mounted at the ends of the crosspieces, in the form of pivoting pawls so as to be, in the operative position, on the path of the feet 50 of the cage 36. In the inoperative position of the crosspieces 104, 108, that is to say in the low position, these jacks pivot in an inoperative position under the action of a rising edge 74a around the opening 74 of the housing 72 (see figure 4a). As soon as the crosspieces 102, 108 rise under the action of the cylinders 92, 94, they pivot, released from the action of the flange 74a, in a horizontal position under the action of their own weight (see FIG. 4b) or an appropriate control, for example a spring.

When the cage 36 has reached the waiting position illustrated in FIG. 4b under the action of the first lifting device, the second lifting device is immediately actuated to raise the jacks 110, 114, 116, 118 into the support position of the feet of the cage 36 illustrated in FIG. 4b. This constitutes a precautionary measure since the cage 36 can remain in this position for a certain time while awaiting the depalletization of a pallet on the platform 16.

The continued action of the cylinders 92, 94 makes it possible to hoist the cage 36 from the position illustrated in FIG. 4b to the position illustrated in the FIG. 4 c from which it is possible to extract the loaded pallet 52. It should be noted that, during the action of the second lifting device, the cage 36 has come out of its basket 38, the latter remaining in the standby position, hooked to the cables 78, 80 of the first lifting device.

On the platform 16 are two carriages 120, 122 moving, by means of rollers, on two lateral rails 124, 126. Each carriage has a fork 128 which can be engaged under a pallet (see FIG. 1). After the cage 36 with a loaded pallet 52 has been hoisted at the level of FIG. 4c, that of the two carriages 120, 122 which is empty is moved automatically, or on command, above the opening 76 so that its fork 128 enters under the pallet 52. When its fork 128 is fully engaged under the pallet 52, the second lifting device is released slightly until the pallet 52 is supported by the fork 128 and no longer bears on the shelf lower 44 of the cage 36. Consequently, the carriage 120 or 122 is again moved to its initial position taking with it the pallet out of the cage 36.

Each of the carriages 120, 122 is associated with two position detectors 130 and 132 intended to control the lateral position and the longitudinal position of the pallet and its bricks. These detectors, which can be mechanical detectors or ray detectors, serve to check whether the position of the pallet is correct and in accordance with the program of the robot 34 and serve, if necessary, to order a correction of the position of the carriages 120, 122 and / or the robot's operation.

In FIGS. 1 and 2, it is further recognized that a control cabin 134 allows an operator to control, under shelter, the various operations taking place automatically on platform 16 and to intervene if necessary. This cabin can be air conditioned to provide optimal working conditions.

The operation of the installation is apparent from its description and will only be briefly commented on below. When the cage 36 is lowered from the platform 16 with an empty pallet, the plate 32 is oriented so as to correspond to the angular position of the platform 16 to receive the basket 38 and the cage 36. The plate 32 is turned to its starting position to disengage the empty pallet 56 and immediately return a full pallet 52 to the lower compartment of the cage 36. After rotation of the plate 32 towards the angular position corresponding to that of the platform 16, the basket 38 and the pallet carrier cage 36 are raised to the standby position according to FIG. 4b. The assembly remains in this waiting position, hooked to the cables 78 and 80 and resting by the feet 50 on the jacks 110, 114, 116, 118 until one of the two pallets 26, 28 which is at replace either empty.

Bringing the cage 36 as soon as possible into the waiting position of FIG. 4b has several advantages. The pallet change can be carried out immediately, as soon as the pallet to be changed is empty, so that the loss of time is minimal.

While the cage 36 occupies the standby position, the opening 76 is automatically blocked, so that an accident hazard is reduced. Then, all the bricks 58 that cannot be used, for whatever reason, can be placed in the bin 48 of the cage 36 so that we can make the most of the space available on the platform 16 .

As soon as the pallet 26 or 28 to be changed is empty, or is being emptied, the cage 36 is hoisted by the jacks 110, 114, 116, 118 out of the basket 36 in an intermediate position between that of FIGS. 4b and 4c in which the upper compartment of the cage 36 is located at the level of the platform 16. That of the carriages 120 or 122 carrying the empty pallet is then actuated to come and deposit it in the upper compartment of the cage 36. After removing the carriage of this upper compartment, the cage 36 is hoisted up to the level of FIG. 4c and in this position, the full pallet 52 can be released as described above.

As soon as the full pallet 52 is extracted from the cage 36, the latter is again lowered into its basket 36 by the descent of the jacks 110, 114, 116, 118. From the position shown in FIG. 4b, the cage 36 is supported by the cables 78, 80 of the first lifting device, while the jacks are lowered into the position of FIG. 4a to be rearing up under the action of the flange 74a and allowing the basket 38 and the cage 36 which are lowered immediately afterwards by the unwinding of cables 78 and 80.

It should be noted that although described with reference to a platform carried with loading of pallets from the bottom, the invention also applies to suspended platforms with loading of pallets from the top.
