Abstract

The package comprises a bottom part (10) and two opposite walls (11, 12), as well as two retractable plastic sheets (17, 18) intended to cover the products (P) and to press the latter against the bottom part. In order to achieve highly resistant connections between the sheets and the package, two fixing elements such as wall flaps (13, 14) built-in panels, or walls of a built-in belt, are applied against the internal faces of the walls (11, 12), and edges (171, 181) of the sheets (17, 18) are encompassed respectively between the fixing elements (13, 14) and the internal faces of the walls (11, 12). The sheets are developed between the walls from said edges (171, 181) first towards the bottom part (10) and then surrounding the fixing elements (13, 14). The package may be a cardboard box or receptacle.

Description

The present invention relates to a packaging, in particular cardboard, for overpacking products deposited on a bottom of the packaging, by two sheets of the shrinkable plastic type. The sheets are arranged inside the packaging, between two opposite walls of the latter, and cover all of the products placed in order to hold them against the bottom, following a heat shrinkage of the sheets.

The products thus packaged and overwrapped can be boxes, bottles, documents or any grouped objects, or any product, pre-conditioned or not, grouped or put individually in the packaging. When several products are packaged in the same packaging, the batch of products can be homogeneous or heterogeneous.

According to French patent FR-B 2 426 620, first lateral edges of shrink sheets are bonded directly along regions adjacent to the junctions between the internal face of the bottom and the internal faces of two opposite walls of a cardboard box. According to a first variant, the first sheet borders are bonded to the bottom, and according to a second variant, the first sheet borders are bonded respectively to the internal faces of the two opposite walls in close proximity to the bottom. In all cases, the leaves are developed from the bottom, immediately moving away from the bottom, vertically thereof, so that second borders of the sheets overlap above the products. The external faces of the first edges of the sheets, not in contact with the products, are glued to the internal face of the bottom or to the internal faces of the opposite walls.

With such a packaging, it has been found that the resistance to tearing or shearing of the bonds of the plastic sheets inside the packaging is not sufficiently high when the packaging is subjected to impacts, drops or turnaround in particular during handling and transport. In fact, under these conditions, under the action of the inertia and the weight of the packaged products, the connections of the sheets to the walls or to the bottom give way and thus release the products, contrary to the aim sought for such packaging consisting in pressing and immobilize the products against the bottom.

The main object of the present invention is to increase the resistance of the bonds of the sheets to the packaging.

To this end, a cardboard or similar material packaging comprising a bottom and two opposite walls, as well as two sheets of the retractable plastic type intended to cover products placed on the bottom, is characterized in that it comprises two fastening elements applied against the internal faces of the walls and in that the sheets have first edges enclosed respectively between the fastening elements and the internal faces of the walls and are developed between the walls from the first edges, first towards the bottom, then bypassing the fasteners.

Thanks to the clamping of the first edges of the sheets between the fastening elements and the internal faces of the walls and to the development of bends in the sheets, practically at 180 ° , facing the bottom to bypass the fastening elements, the resistance to tearing and shearing of the sheets is considerably increased, and practically the connections of the sheets to the fastening elements applied against the walls of the package cannot fail.

As will be seen below, the fastening elements may be upper flaps of the walls, added plates which may constitute parts of the walls, or lateral extensions of opposite second walls of the packaging. The packaging can be a simple support with two walls applied against the products, or an open or closed box, or even a tray.

Different connections on the one hand from the first sheet borders to the fixing elements, on the other hand from fixing elements to the rest of the packaging can be selected in order to further increase the resistance to tearing off the sheets, and / or to increase the stacking resistance of the packaging, and / or to reduce the consumption of cardboard and / or to reduce the cost of the packaging.

The invention also relates to a blank of cardboard or similar material, precut and grooved from which is formed a package according to the invention. The blank is characterized in that it comprises two sheets of the retractable plastic kind, having first borders fixed, preferably by gluing, stapling or the like, on or in portions separable or not from the rest of the blank, acting as elements of fixation. Such blanks can be supplied to a user and stored, when the user has only one packaging form former.

The method of manufacturing a package according to the invention mainly comprises fixing the first edges of the sheets on or in portions of a precut and grooved blank serving as fastening elements, applying the fastening elements against faces internal portions of the blank serving as opposite walls of the packaging so that the sheets are developed from the first edges in the direction of one or portions of the blank serving as the bottom of the packaging, and forming of the packing intervening after or before the fixing of the sheets and / or the application of the fixing elements.

According to a first embodiment shown in FIG. 1, a cardboard package 1 or other similar semi-rigid material comprises a bottom 10 and two opposite walls 11 and 12 each provided with an upper fixing flap 13, 14. Each flap 13, 14 offers a transverse free edge 130 , 140 parallel to the bottom. All these parts of the package 1 are assumed here to be rectangular, and more generally, reference is made hereinafter to packages having a generally parallelepiped shape, although packages according to the invention may be polyhedral.

The top face, or so-called internal face, of the bottom 10 directly receives a load, consisting of a batch of products P, homogeneous or heterogeneous, such as small boxes. The flaps 13 and 14 initially extend the walls 11 and 12 before forming the packaging and are delimited with respect thereto by upper creasing lines 15 and 16, parallel to the bottom and to the edges 130, 140, serving as lines folding to fold down by opposite pivoting of 180 ° towards the bottom, the flaps 13 and 14 against the internal faces opposite the walls 11 and 12.

Prior to the pivoting operation, two sheets or strips of heat-shrinkable plastic film 17 and 18 have first transverse edges or edges 171 and 181 fixed, preferably by gluing, or by heat-sealing such as heat-bonding or heat-sealing, or by stapling. , or other similar method, on the internal faces opposite the flaps 13 and 14, in the vicinity of the edges 130 and 140. The width of the sheets 17 and 18 is substantially equal to that of the flaps 13 and 14, and more generally, can be greater or less than the width of the walls 11 and 12. The length of each sheet is approximately equal to the sum of the half-length of the bottom 10 and approximately twice the height of the flaps 13 and 14 so that two second transverse free borders 172 and 182 of the sheets 17 and 18 can overlap above the products P for a heat-shrinking operation.

Thus, after application of an internal face of the flap 13, 14 against the internal face of the respective wall 11, 12, the first border 171, 172 of the sheet is sandwiched between these two internal faces, that is to say sandwiched between them, and is held firmly against them by fixing the flap 13,14 to the wall 11,12, for example by gluing, heat sealing, stapling, or other similar process. The longitudinal edges 174 and 184 of the sheets 17 and 18 then follow vertical paths descending in the direction of the transverse edges 130 and 140 and from the bottom 10 from the first fixed transverse edges 171 and 181, elbows at 180 ° to circumvent the transverse edges 130 and 140 of the flaps 13 and 14, then paths directed upwards, vertical or substantially oblique depending on the shape of the products and in particular their height, and finally substantially horizontal paths substantially above the transverse perpendicular bisector of the bottom 10 where the edges 172 and 182 are superimposed. The firm bracing of the edges 171 and 181 of the sheets between the flaps and the walls and of the change in direction of the development of the sheets under the edges 130 and 140 thus increase the resistance to tearing off of the sheets, in particular when the load constituted by the produits P pushes the sheets 17 and 18 upwards following stresses, such as shocks to the packaging or overturning of the packaging.

Cependant, la hauteur maximale des produits peut être inférieure ou supérieure à celle des parois 11 et 12.According to the embodiment illustrated in FIG. 1, the height of the flaps 13 and 14 is less than that of the walls 11 and 12, and is chosen according to the size of the products so that the edges 130 and 140 of the folded flaps 13 and 14 from which emerge upwards the sheets 17 and 18 are at a distance from the bottom 10 always less than the maximum height of the products, the products can then be pressed against the bottom during the heat-shrinking operation of the sheets. This makes it possible to reduce the consumption of cardboard as well as that of heat-shrinkable film. However, the maximum height of the products can be lower or higher than that of the walls 11 and 12.

Still according to the embodiment illustrated in FIG. 1, the internal face of a flap 13, 14 can be fixed, for example by gluing, stapling or the like, directly to the internal face of the corresponding wall 11, 12, above the zone for fixing the edge of corresponding sheet 171, 181 to the internal face of the flap, without this sheet border being itself fixed to the internal face of the wall. According to another variant, the fixing of the internal face of a flap 13, 14 facing the corresponding wall 11, 12 is carried out by means of glue intended initially to fix the sheet border 171, 181 on the internal face of the flap and crossing the border to simultaneously glue the flap to the wall, or by simultaneously stapling the flap, the sheet border and the wall.

According to a variant shown schematically in FIG. 2, the height of the flaps 13 and 14 is practically equal to that of the walls 11 and 12, which constitutes two true double walls of the packaging which increase the resistance to stacking and to compression of the packaging. The stacking resistance is further increased for corrugated cardboard packaging, when the cardboard grooves or corrugations in the walls 11 and 12 and the flaps 13 and 14 are arranged vertically, that is to say perpendicular to the bottom 10, as indicated by the double arrow F in Fig. 2. In particular, the edges 130 and 140 of the flaps may each offer one or two tenons 132, 142 projecting downwards after forming and folding, which penetrate into two mortises 101 and 102 complementary to the tenons, practiced in the bottom 10, at in the vicinity of the bases of the walls 11 and 12, or made on or above the creasing lines 110 and 120 of the walls 11 and 12. According to the embodiment illustrated in FIG. 2, the sheets 17 and 18 are, moreover, wedged between the edges 130 and 140 of the flaps 13 and 14 and the internal corners between the walls 11 and 12 and the bottom 10, and are possibly crossed by the studs 132 and 142 ce which further improves the fixing and the tear resistance of the sheets.

According to yet another variant shown in FIG. 3, the cardboard blank 1 a from which the packaging is made as will be seen below, has detachable flaps or does not have flaps 13 and 14. Thus the flaps 13 and 14 according to FIG. 1 are replaced by two small cardboard plates 133 and 143, here rectangular, having a width substantially equal to, preferably less than, that of the walls 11 and 12. The plates 133 and 144 are attached above the bottom parallel to and against the walls 11 and 12 and are connected to the edges of sheets 171 and 181 and to the internal faces of the walls 11 and 12 respectively, in a manner analogous to the various connections described above or below for the flaps 13 and 14, of so as to enclose with the walls 11 and 12 the edges of sheets 171 and 181. This variant reduces the amount of cardboard in the packaging compared to the previous variants.

To produce the packaging 1, in particular according to FIG. 1, a flat blank of rectangular cardboard, 1a, pushed from a store of such cardboard blanks, is introduced at the entrance of a gluing machine, as shown in FIG. 4. The blank 1 a offers four rectangular portions on either side of a central rectangle forming the bottom 10, to constitute the walls 11 and 12 and the flaps 14 and 15 separated respectively from the bottom by the creasing lines 110 and 120 and between them by the crease lines 15 and 16. However, when the fixing portions 14 and 15 of the blank are plates 133 and 143 shown in FIG. 3, the lines 15 and 16 are precut lines to separate the portions 14 and 15 from the rest of the blank and thus constitute two separate fixing elements. According to the process illustrated in FIG. 4, discontinuous lines of hot-melt glue 111,121 and 131,141, are deposited transversely on the top faces of the walls 11 and 12 and of the flaps 13 and 14 by nozzles of the gluing machine. Then at a station for cutting and laying sheets of plastic film which may be overlying a forming machine, one or two punches or sliding jaws apply the first edges 171 and 181 of two heat-shrinkable plastic films unrolled from two rolls of film. Then a central punch or part of the aforementioned single punch engages the blank 1a in a die of a forming machine, or suitable pivotable pushers of a forming machine fold the blank, so that the walls 11 and 12 with their flaps 13 and 14 are erected perpendicular to the bottom 10, as shown in FIG. 5. Pivoting pushers then fold the flaps 13 and 14 180 ° towards the inside of the packaging, against the walls 11 and 12 so that the internal faces of the flaps 13 and 14 and / or the internal faces of the edges 171 and 181 - which correspond to the internal faces of the sheets 17 and 18 intended to be in contact with the products P - are fixed against the internal faces of the walls 11 and 12. At this stage, the films are preferably cut to the desired length to constitute the sheets 17 and 18 which, preferably, have their major part released from the top of the bottom and distant towards the outside, as shown in FIG. 6, in order to allow manual or automatic installation of the products P on the bottom 10 at a filling station. In order not to hinder the subsequent filling operation, the external edges 172 and 182 of the sheets have external faces slightly fixed against the external faces of the walls 11 and 12 by means, for example, of small adhesive spots 112 and 122 previously deposited in same time as the lines of glue 111,121,131 and 141, or small tapes, preferably removable, double-sided adhesive, or the like. After depositing the products P on the bottom 10, the sheets 17 and 18 are folded over the products and the edges 172 and 182 overlap on the products so that the packaging thus formed enters a heat shrinking oven known to heat seal the second edges of the sheet 172 and 182 and to heat shrink the sheets 17 and 18 against the products P and press them against the bottom 10. Preferably, the heat-shrinkable film used is a plastic polymer, such as polyethylene, polypropylene or polyalkylene, and is mono-oriented, although it can be bi-oriented, so that the sheets 17 and 18 offer a main direction of retraction above the products, longitudinal and perpendicular to the walls 11 and 12. The packaging 1 is thus ready during shipment and can be, if desired, overwrapped by insertion into a flap box of the American box type, or by styling by a semi-American box.

According to a variant of the preceding method, the pivoting and the application of the flaps 13 and 14 against the walls 11 and 12 can take place when the blank 1a is flat, before the forming operation consisting in straightening the walls.

According to yet another variant of the preceding process, the packaging is first formed in a forming station where the walls 11 and 12 and the flaps 13 and 14 are erected vertically, as shown in FIG. 5, then the packaging has its erect walls glued at 111, 121, 131 and 141, receives ends of film 131 and 132 from two film unwinders which are col lées on the flaps, and has its flaps 13 and 14 folded 90 ° ; then the films are cut to release the two sheets falling into the package.

The process illustrated has only been presented by way of example, and other processes can be deduced therefrom, in particular by combining the different operating steps in different orders. In particular, the blank 1 a with sheets 17 and 18 cut and fixed to the flaps 13 and 14, and optionally fixed to the underside and outer faces of the walls 11 and 12, can be manufactured as is by a cardboard box, and introduced into the entry of a forming machine for a user wishing to make the packaging. The prepared blank can offer flaps 13 and 14 fixed to the top and internal faces of the walls 11 and 12. Such a blank can also be a folded and flattened box or tray blank.

According to another variant illustrated in FIG. 7, instead of the sheet borders 171 and 181 being housed between the internal faces opposite the walls 11 and 12 and the folded flaps 13 and 14, or of small plates 133 and 143, the transverse borders 171 and 181 of the sheets 17 and 18 are embedded in the structure of the flaps 13 and 14 respectively, during the production of the cardboard blank 1a. Depending on the structure of the cardboard used, the edges of the sheets 171 and 181 are trapped respectively between facing faces of two sheets of cardboard 135, 136 and 145, 146 for a duplex or single-sided cardboard, or between faces facing the one of two sheets of cardboard and a corrugated cardboard sheet for a double-sided or double double-sided corrugated cardboard, or between facing faces of any two sheets of cardboard for a multi-sheet cardboard. In all cases, the internal face 135, 145 of the flap 13, 14 is always applied against the internal face of the corresponding wall 11, 12 and fixed thereto. Furthermore, it will be noted in FIG. 7, that the cardboard is a corrugated cardboard; although undulations are presented horizontally, these undulations are in practice and according to the invention oriented vertically, as indicated by the double arrow F in FIG. 2.

Other packages having wall, bottom and flap arrangements can be used to implement the invention. Some types of these packages are described below. These various packages are designated by respective numbers, and the different parts of each of these packages are designated by a number, the first digit of which designates the package itself and the following digit or digits of which are identical to those designating similar parts. of the package 1 shown in FIG. 1.

With reference to FIG. 8, a package 2 is a parallelepipedic or cubic box, of the American box type, offering a bottom 20, two first parallel walls 21 and 22 and two second parallel walls 291 and 292. Two upper fixing flaps 23 and 24 extending the walls 21 and 22 and delimited with respect to these by crease lines are folded 180 ° inside the body 2 and against the internal faces of the faces 21 and 22 to enclose therewith edges 271 and 281 of two retractable plastic sheets 27 and 28 suitable for overlapping and being heat-shrunk above products P placed inside on the bottom 20.

Incidentally, two second upper flaps 293 and 294 extending the second walls 291 and 292 delimited therefrom by creasing lines can be provided to close the box and thus protect the products P. The flaps 293 and 294 are coated according to a plane perpendicular to the walls of the body. The flaps 293 and 294 can be connected together for example by adhesive tape, or held coplanarly by wrapping the box. According to another variant, the second flaps 293 and 294 are replaced by a cover or cover having a central panel similar to the bottom and bordered or not with one, two, three or four flaps applied against respective walls 21, 22, 291 and 292 of the case.

Of course, the different variants of connections of the first sheet borders already described with reference in particular to FIGS. 2, 3, 6 and 7 are applicable to the body 2, or other packaging 3, 4 and 5 described below or deducted therefrom.

In particular for the variant of FIG. 3 applied to the body 2, the small added plates or strips 133 and 143 may be panels having lengths and heights respectively substantially equal, or equal and different, from those of walls 21 and 22, or portions of an annular belt with rectangular section C, also called case, crown or tube, as shown in broken lines in FIG. 3, applied against the internal faces of the four walls 21, 291, 22 and 292 of the box. The belt may have two opposite walls having heights different from those of the other two. The bottom 10 of the box can be constituted by a simple cardboard panel, or by two flaps, or by four flaps superimposed in a conventional manner. According to another variant when using a belt C, the bottom comes from a blank similar to the blank 1a, but devoid of end panels 13 and 14, and comprises one, two, three or four panels, such that 11 and 12, which can form the walls of a box when these panels have a height greater than that of the belt as shown in FIG. 3, or which can form flaps of a lower cover of the packaging when these panels, as indicated in 503 and 504 in FIG. 11, have a height less than that of the belt indicated in C, 53 and 54 in FIG. 11. For this use of the belt, the belt is first formed, the sheets are attached to the belt, and the cap is formed and applied to the belt containing the sheets.

According to the embodiment shown in FIG. 9, a package 3 is a tray 3 having a bottom 30, two large parallel walls 31 and 32, two small parallel walls 391 and 392 having heights lower than those of the large walls 31 and 32, and two fixing flaps 33 and 34 The flaps-33 and 34 are delimited by creasing lines 35 and 36 defining upper edges of the walls 31 and 32 and are folded against the internal faces of these to enclose with them first transverse edges 371 and 381. of two plasti sheets ques retractables 37 and 38 developed between the large walls 31 and 32. According to another variant, the flaps 33 and 34 are replaced by flaps delimited by creasing lines defining upper edges of the small walls 391 and 392 and are folded against the internal faces thereof to enclose therewith the edges of two shrinkable plastic sheets.

According to another variant of tray 4 shown in FIG. 10, first edges 471 and 481 of two retractable plastic sheets 47 and 48 are sandwiched between the internal faces of small walls 41 and 42 on the one hand, and external faces of pairs of lateral reinforcing extensions or overhangs 43 and 44 of high walls 491 and 492, on the other hand, the overhangs being folded perpendicular to the high walls towards the inside of the tray 4 and applied respectively against longitudinal ends of the internal faces of the small walls. A variant similar to the previous one, consists of enclosing the first edges 471 and 481 of two sheets 47 and 48 between the internal faces of the high walls of a tray on the one hand, and the external faces of pairs of lateral extensions or overhangs of reinforcement of the small walls, on the other hand, the overhangs being folded perpendicular to the small walls towards the inside of the tray and applied respectively against longitudinal ends of the internal faces of the high walls. For these two variants, the sheets 47 and 48 pass between the lower edges, such as 430 and 440, of the overhangs and the bottom, the overflows playing a function similar to the flaps of the previous embodiments with regard to the fixing of the first borders. plastic sheets.

According to another packaging embodiment 5 of the tray or crate type, shown in FIG. 11, two first opposite walls are each essentially constituted by a fixing panel 53, 54 completely separated from a cardboard blank constituting the rest of the packaging during the formation of the packaging. The cardboard blank has, after folding and forming, a bottom 50, two second parallel walls 591 and 592, two extensions, also called extreme overhangs or flaps, in isosceles trapezoid 503 and 504 of the bottom 50 erected perpendicular to the bottom between the walls 591 and 592, and two pairs of extreme trapezoidal extensions or overhangs 51 and 52 of the walls 591 and 592 erected vertically and perpendicular to them and between them. First edges 571, 581 of two retractable plastic sheets 57 and 58 are fixed in the lower part of the external faces of the panels 53 and 54 not opposite and respectively opposite the internal faces of the extensions 503, 51 and 504, 52 The panels 53 and 54 are attached to the inside of the package 5, and the external faces of the panels 53 and 54 are then applied against the internal faces of the respective extensions. The sheets 57 and 58 emerge inside the packaging 5, after passing under lower edges 530 and 540 of the panels 53 and 54 and above the bottom 50. When the height of the panels 53 and 54 is different from that of the walls 591 and 592, the packaging 5 constitutes a tray.

According to another variant of FIG. 11, as already said with reference to FIG. 3, the fixing panels 53 and 54 are those of a parallelepiped belt C. In this case, the overhangs 51 and 52 can be eliminated, and the height of the walls 591 and 592 can be less than that of the belt C. By example, the walls 591 and 592 have a height equal to that of the flaps 503 and 504 so as to form a lower cover 50 with four flaps 591, 592, 503 and 504 applicable against the external faces of the belt constituting the four walls of the 'packaging.

As is known, each of the trays, or open cases, or similar packages, shown in Figs. 9, 10 and 11, is capable of being capped by a cover having for example two side panels applied for example against small container walls. The central panel of the cover above the bottom may possibly be supported on entablatures extending by upper folding the large walls of the tray, and may have mortises cooperating with upper tenons of the large walls of the tray.
