Claims (7)

1. A reel unwinder (6, 6', 7) for continuously supplying an endless web (21, 23), comprising mounted on a stand (25 to 28), two spindles (4, 5) for supporting two reels, one of which is being unwound while the other spindle, after removal of the core of the consumed reel, receives a full reel, means (9, 10, 11) for maintaining a suitable web tension, means for accelerating the full reel to the linear unwinding speed through an action on the spindle thereof, the free end of the full reel receiving a strip of adhesive (22, 22'), laying means for placing the web of the nearly consumed reel onto the web of the full reel to bond the webs by the strip of adhesive, said laying means including applicator elements (14, 15) mounted on a movable assembly (8) for bringing said elements into an active position alternately near each full reel (6, 6', 7), and knife means (17, 18) for cutting the web issued from the consumed reel, characterized in that the laying means comprise two applicator elements (14, 15) mounted on the movable assembly on each side of at least one guide roller (16) on which the unwound web (21, 23) passes, as well as first (51) and second (56, 57) control means for successively acting on the applicator element (14 or 15) which is situated on the other side of the web (21, 23) with respect to the full reel, for placing said applicator element into an approach position relatively to the full reel surface, and then into a contact position with said full reel surface, respectively.
2. A reel unwinder according to claim 1, characterized in that the movable assembly is a carriage (8) which is driven by driving means for executing a translational movement along slides (35, 36), said slides being parallel with the plane containing the spindles (4, 5) of said two reels (6, 6', 7).

A reel unwinder according to claim 1 or 2, characterized in that the applicators elements are rollers (14, 15), and in that these rollers as well as the guide roller(s) (16) are carried by two posts (12, 13) for forming a symmetrical frame provided with two axles (61, 61', 66, 66') on opposite sides of said guide roller or of each of said guide rollers and at a distance from each other, said axles resting in cut-out portions (62) of said movable assembly (8), one of said axles being retained in each of said two active positions, by stops (65, 67) integral with the stand, for functioning as a pivot axle, said first and second control means (51 ; 56, 57) acting one after the other on the symmetrical frame for pivoting it about one of the axles thereof for bringing in two steps the opposite applicator roller (14 or 15) against the full reel surface.
4. A reel unwinder according to claim 3, characterized in that said axles (61, 61', 66, 66') for pivoting said frame are flush with the pivot axles of said applicator rollers (14, 15).

A reel unwinder according to claim 3 or 4, characterized in that said first control means comprise a central approach jack (51) articulated, on one side thereof, to said movable assembly (8) and engaged, on the other side thereof, with an arm (52) fixed to a bush (53), said bush being rotatably mounted around a strut (46) on the movable assembly (8) and carrying two symmetrical arms (54, 55) near both ends of said arm, said symmetrical arms being articulated at the opposite end thereof to respective ends of contact jacks (56, 57) the two contact jacks (56, 57) forming together said second control means and being connected at opposite second ends thereof with said symmetrical frame each at a mid-point between said two applicator rollers (14, 15).
6. A reel unwinder according to claim 5, characterized in that said two contact jacks (56, 57) are engaged with the axle (58) supporting said guide roller (16).
7. A reel unwinder according to anyone of claims 1 to 6, characterized in that the axles of said knives (17, 18) are fixed and arranged on either side of the plane of symmetry of the unwinder.
