Abstract

PCT No. PCT/DE85/00556 Sec. 371 Date Nov. 5, 1986 Sec. 102(e) Date Nov. 5, 1986 PCT Filed Dec. 21, 1985 PCT Pub. No. WO86/04019 PCT Pub. Date Jul. 17, 1986.The invention relates to a process for high-speed tampon printing with tampons, printing blocks, and workpiece holders for the workpieces to be printed, where the workpieces are placed and held in the workpiece holders and where the tampons alternately receive printing images from the inked printing blocks and transfer them to the workpieces. The printing speed can be increased considerably by synchronously moving tampons, printing blocks, and workpieces respectively on an endless line, by arranging at least one section of the line with the tampons parallel to a section of the line with the printing blocks and at least one further section of the line with the tampons parallel to a section of the line with the workpieces and by moving them in the same direction, and by alternately adjusting the tampons perpendicular to the corresponding sections in the synchronous sections of the lines and by making them interact-for a given path-with an inked printing block for transferring the printing image and with a workpiece for receiving the printing image.

Description

The invention relates to a method for rapid tampon printing with tampons, clichés and workpiece holders for the workpieces to be printed, in which the workpieces are fixed in the workpiece holders and in which the tampons alternately take over printed images from the inked clichés and transfer them to the workpieces.

Pad printing machines are known in which the cliché and the workpiece are at rest during the transfer of the print image and the transfer of the print image. The tampon is usually adjusted in three directions in a linear way. After the print image has been transferred, the workpiece holder also performs a linear movement so that a new workpiece holder with workpiece is brought into the printing position.

Furthermore, in US-A 2 645 870 a device for an automatic transfer of franking from one surface to another is described which has an endless path for franking. The indicia are transferred over a sloping bridge to felt pads carried by another track. From there, these indicia are applied to deformable objects. Finally, US-A 3,990,364 describes a method and an apparatus for multi-color screen printing. The colors are transferred by screens and a vertically movable pressure pad that transfers the color from the screens to the objects.

It is an object of the invention to provide a method for rapid tampon printing in which the printing speed can be increased to a multiple of the prints.

This object is achieved according to the invention in that the tampons, the clichés and the workpieces are each moved synchronously on an endless path, that at least a section of the path with the tampons parallel to a section of the path with the clichés and at least one further section the web with the tampons is arranged parallel to a section of the web with the workpieces and each is moved in the same direction and that in the synchronous sections of the webs the tampons are alternately adjusted perpendicular to the assigned sections and for a given path for printing image transfer with a colored cliché and for Print image transfer can be brought into operative connection with a workpiece.

The tampons, the clichés and the workpiece holders with the workpieces can be moved on the endless webs at a much higher speed and since the printing is carried out by means of a short lateral adjustment during the running movement of the webs, the printing cycles can be increased significantly, with the print image being taken over by one Cliché can run in parallel with a print image transfer to a workpiece and several tampons, clichés and workpiece holders can be arranged on the tracks. This enables printing speeds to be achieved which are far above the printing speed of the known pad printing machines with a stationary cliché and a stationary workpiece. In addition, the construction of the pad printing machine for carrying out the method is considerably simpler than that of the known pad printing machines.

Is provided according to an embodiment that the endless tracks are formed by conveyor belts which are guided over deflection rollers, that the tampons, the clichés and the workpiece holder with the workpieces are arranged on the conveyor belts in a uniform division and that the conveyor belts move continuously at a constant speed then the drive of the conveyor belts is simplified and the movement sequence is easy to synchronize.

The optimal utilization of the throughput time of the conveyor belts over the parallel parallel sections for the print image transfer and for the print image transfer is achieved in one embodiment in that the adjustment of the tampons perpendicular to the synchronous sections of the conveyor belts is carried out during the continuous running of the conveyor belts for a period of time that the throughput time of the conveyor belts is coordinated through the synchronous sections.

According to a further embodiment, it is provided that the conveyor belts with the tampons, the clichés and the workpiece holders with the workpieces are designed and driven identically, that two tampons, two clichés and two workpiece holders are provided for workpieces that are in one half the length of the Conveyor belt can be arranged given division, and that the one strand of the conveyor belt with the tampons, a parallel section of the conveyor belt with the clichés and the other strand of the conveyor belt with the tampons, a parallel section of the conveyor belt with the workpiece holders for workpieces can be assigned, then the two Dreams of the conveyor belt with the tampons are deflected in the opposite direction during the passage of the synchronized, facing sections, so that on the side facing the conveyor belt with the clichés, a printed image is taken over by a tampon, while on the side facing the conveyor belt with the workpiece holders an a other tampon simultaneously transfers a print image to a workpiece. In order for the print image to be completely adopted and transferred, one embodiment provides that the tampons are adjusted perpendicular to the synchronized sections of the conveyor belts so that the tampons are transferred from the clichés when the print image is taken over and when the print image is transferred Execute the required maximum deformation path on the workpieces.

According to one embodiment, the adjustment movement of the tampons can be derived in such a way that the tampons are adjusted or guided perpendicularly to the synchronous sections by controlled deflection or guidance of the assigned strand of the conveyor belt.

Controlled deflection or guidance of the conveyor belt runs can be achieved in a simple manner by providing a switch with control cams to adjust the run of the conveyor belt with the tampons, on which the tampons are supported with control approaches. The control curves of the switch are assigned to the two strands of the conveyor belt with the tampons.

The adjustment of the tampons for transferring the print image from the clichés and for transferring the print image to the workpieces can, according to one embodiment, also be effected in that the adjustment of the tampons is carried out perpendicular to the assigned synchronous sections of the conveyor belts by corresponding adjustment of the entire conveyor belt with the tampons.

Continuous inking of the clichés is obtained according to one embodiment in that a coloring device is assigned to the strand of the conveyor belt with the clichés that is turned away from the conveyor belt and that colors the clichés that pass through or pass by.

If a common drive device is assigned to the conveyor belts, the synchronous synchronism of the conveyor belts is automatically achieved.

The loading of the workpiece holder with workpieces to be printed and the removal of printed workpieces from the workpiece holders are facilitated in that the number of tampons is selected equal to the number of clichés, that the number of workpiece holders for workpieces is chosen to be greater than the number of tampons or Clichés and that all three conveyor belts are driven at the same running speed. The conveyor belt with the workpiece holders can then be arranged so that it protrudes at both ends of the conveyor belt with the tampons, which facilitates access to the workpiece holders in the protruding sections.

It is provided that several conveyor belts with tampons are assigned to the conveyor belt with the workpiece holders, that the conveyor belts with tampons are arranged one behind the other in the running direction of the conveyor belt with the workpiece holders and are set in the same direction of rotation and that each conveyor belt with tampons is assigned a conveyor belt with clichés and an inking device then the process is suitable for multi-color and multi-color printing.

The tampons 13 and 14 are attached in a division which corresponds to half the length of the conveyor belt.

The upper run of the conveyor belt with the tampons 13 and 14 is associated with the conveyor belt forming the web 20 with the clichés 23 and 24. This conveyor belt is guided over the deflection rollers 21 and 22 and carries the clichés 23 and 24 in the same division, since both conveyor belts are constructed and designed identically. The direction of rotation is selected so that the upper run of the conveyor belt with the tampons 13 and 14 is arranged at a distance parallel to the lower run of the conveyor belt with the clichés 23 and 24, and that both strands of the two conveyor belts are moved in the same direction in this section. This means that the conveyor belt with the clichés 23 and 24 must rotate clockwise when the conveyor belt with the tampons 13 and 14 rotates counterclockwise. The inking device 25 is assigned to the upper run of the conveyor belt with the clichés 23 and 24. The clichés 23 and 24 that pass through or pass through the inking device 25 are continuously inked.

The lower run of the conveyor belt with the tampons 13 and 14 is associated with the conveyor belt forming the endless path 30 with the workpiece holders receiving the workpieces 33 and 34. The upper run with the workpiece 33 is moved in the same direction as the lower run of the conveyor belt with the tampons 13 and 14. The conveyor belt with the workpiece holders is guided over the deflection rollers 31 and 32 and constructed identically to the conveyor belt with the tampons 13 and 14, as well as the conveyor belt with the clichés 23 and 24. To achieve a synchronous orbital movement, all three conveyor belts can be driven most simply by a common drive device, which in the same way, for. B. can be coupled to the pulleys 11, 21 and 31. The distances between the synchronous sections of the conveyor belts with the clichés 23 and 24 and the tampons 13 and 14, and the sections of the conveyor belts with the tampons 13 and 14 and the workpiece holders are the same size and match the dimensions of the tampons 13 and 14.

If the conveyor belts are set in continuous orbital movements, the conveyor belts are moved in the direction indicated by the arrow. The clichés 23 and 24 are colored. If the upper run of the conveyor belt with the tampons 13 and 14 on the deflection roller 11 is adjusted upwards, which can be achieved by a controlled deflection or a fixed guidance of the conveyor belt itself, then the tampon 13 comes with the cliché 23 in operative connection. This active connection is maintained until the tampon 13 is moved downwards and is lifted off the cliché 23. The printed image is taken from the inked cliché 23 by the tampon 13. The tampon 13 must be adjusted so far up that it can perform its maximum deformation path. The adjustment can be selected according to the size of the printed image and limited accordingly. At the same time, when the lower run of the conveyor belt runs out of the deflection roller 11, the tampon 14 is adjusted downward and brought into operative connection with the workpiece 33. The adjustment path is set and limited to the required deformation path of the tampon 14. Before the lower strand runs into the deflection roller 12, the tampon 14 is adjusted upwards again and lifted off the workpiece 33. During the operative connection, which is maintained on part of the synchronous sections, the printed image has been transferred from the inked tampon 14 to the workpiece 33.

The conveyor belts can be put into circulation at high speed. The adjustment paths of the tampons 13 and 14, which run perpendicular to the conveyor belt runs, are short, with sufficient time remaining for the necessary deformation of the tampons 13 and 14. In one revolution of the conveyor belt with the tampons 13 and 14, both tampons 13 and 14 take over printed images from the clichés 23 and 24 and transfer them to the workpieces 33 and 34. The alignment of the conveyor belts must be such that in one position the clichés 23 and 24, the tampons 13 and 14 and the workpieces 33 and 34 or their workpiece holders lie on the central axis of all three conveyor belts which is perpendicular to the conveyor strands.

The length of the conveying strands, which form the synchronous sections of the endless webs 10, 20 and 30, and the circulation speed are the parameters which determine the printing speed. The adjustment path of the tampons 13 and 14 directed perpendicular to the conveying strands must be carried out in the direction indicated by the arrows and initiated and ended when these sections pass through.

The division is thus determined by the length of these two identical conveyor belts. The lower conveyor belt has workpiece holders for two workpieces 33 and 34, which are arranged in the same division on the conveyor belt which is twice as long. The arrows indicate the directions of travel of the conveyor belts. If the tampon 13 passes through the upper run of the conveyor belt, then the entire conveyor belt forming the web 10 is raised so far that the tampon 13 comes into operative connection with the cliché 23 with corresponding deformation. When the print transfer is complete, the conveyor belt with the tampon 13 returns to its central position, the tampon 13 lifting off the cliché 23. If the colored tampon 13 runs into the lower run of the conveyor belt, the entire conveyor belt is adjusted downwards with the tampon 13. In the meantime, the workpiece 33 has been moved on the endless path 30 in such a way that it comes into operative connection with the lowered tampon 13 in the upper run. The printed image is transferred from the inked tampon 13 to the workpiece 33. After a quarter of the circulation on the web 30, the operative connection between the tampon 13 and the workpiece 33 is eliminated and the inking process of the tampon 13 on the cliché 23 follows again in the further course, previously after the web 10 has been set to the middle position again the same was carried out upwards.

Finally, FIG. 3 shows an embodiment in which the web 10 is covered with six tampons 13 and the web 20 with six clichés 23. The track 10 with the tampons 13 is assigned a switch 15 which has the two control cams 16 and 17. The tampons 13 have control lugs 18, which pass through the synchronous sections, i. H. support the two strands of the web 10 on the control cams 16 and 17 and control the adjustment of the tampons 13 for transferring the print image from the printing blocks 23 and for transferring the print image to the workpieces 33.

The conveyor belt forming the web 30 has a number of workpiece holders which is greater than the number of tampons 13 and the number of clichés 23. The circulation speeds of all conveyor belts are the same, so that with uniform division of tampons 13, clichés 23 and workpieces 33 is ensured is that when the tampons 13 are adjusted via the control cams 16 and 17, the operative connections from the tampons 13 to the clichés 23 and to the workpieces 33 are continuously established and canceled. The number of workpieces 33 is preferably an integer multiple of the number of tampons 13 or the number of clichés 23. In this way, a corresponding number of revolutions of webs 10 and 20 fall on one revolution of web 30, which is due to this integer multiple given is.

The ends of the web 30 protrude at both ends of the web 10 with a section. In these sections, access to the workpiece holders is facilitated, which on the one hand means the introduction of the workpieces to be printed into the workpiece holders and, on the other hand, favoring the removal of the printed workpieces from the workpiece holders.
