Definitions
- the present invention relates to a flexible waterproof curtain for an accordion door.
- a door of this type usually comprises a flexible curtain of reinforced plastic, stiffened at regular intervals by rebar and guided on its lateral edges in its upward and downward movements by vertical U sections. Reinforcement bars generally have rollers at their ends, which facilitate the folding or unfolding of the curtain.
- the door is actuated by a motor which rotates a shaft on which is secured the upper end of straps, which are, on the other hand, fixed to the lower bar and held at the level of certain other bars by guides.
- a door like the one just described is not waterproof for two reasons.
- the reinforcing bars are provided with rollers at their ends, the lateral edges of the flexible curtain are distant from the bottom of the U-shaped profiles at least the length of these rollers. A gap is thus formed at the side edges of the door, over its entire height, through which heat exchanges between inside and outside can occur.
- the flexible curtain is not held laterally by the U-shaped profiles in leaktight fashion, the parallel uprights of said profiles being spaced at least by the thickness of the folds that the curtain forms when the door is fully open. This spacing is therefore relatively large compared to the thickness of the curtain when, the door being closed, it is fully deployed. In this latter configuration, the curtain has a certain lateral clearance; it can beat with the winds exerted on its external surface or overpressures exerted on its internal surface.
- FIGS. 1, 2 and 3 show the schematic sectional view, along a horizontal plane, of three U-shaped sections 1, respectively comprising a brush 2 fixed to the external upright, a brush 3 fixed to the internal upright, a brush 2 ', 3', fixed on each upright.
- the brushes used are flexible bristles and ensure a good sealing by crushing on the flexible curtain, provided that said curtain is pressed against them, which occurs only in in the case of a sufficiently strong wind ( Figures 2 and 3) or in the case of a fairly significant internal overpressure ( Figures 1. and 3 ). These conditions are rarely realized, at least continuously. in the configuration shown in FIG. 3, sufficiently bristled brushes long so that they constantly and simultaneously apply pressure to the interior and exterior surfaces of the curtain, this is impossible since the curtain would no longer have the space to fold in an accordion when the door is opened.
- the object of the present invention is to eliminate this disadvantageous characteristic by providing the accordion door with a movable sealing member, not fixed to the U-shaped profiles, like the device described in the patent cited above, but subject to the flexible curtain itself.
- the flexible curtain according to the invention comprises, on each of its lateral edges, a strip of flexible material capable of being applied against the bottom of the upright or of the slide when the curtain is lowered.
- the strip of flexible material can be interrupted at the level of the rollers, and must, in any case, be wider than the axial length of the rollers, in order not to be removed from the bottom of the slide by them.
- the sealing strips can be formed by the edges of the curtain itself , said curtain being wider than the distance separating the bottom of the profiles.
- FIG. 4 the essential elements constituting an accordion door are recognized: vertical U-shaped profiles 1, connected at their upper end by a transverse beam 4; motor 5 driving a shaft 6 for winding the lifting straps 7; flexible curtain 8 stiffened at regular intervals by rebar 9 housed in sleeves fixed to said curtain; guides 10 of the lifting straps 7 fixed on certain rebar 9; rollers 11 fixed to the ends of the reinforcing bars 9.
- the accordion door shown in FIG. 4 further comprises a sealing member according to the invention.
- This sealing member consists of two strips 12 of flexible material fixed respectively on each of the lateral edges of the flexible curtain, interrupted or not at each roller 11 and sufficiently wide to come into contact with the bottom of the U-shaped profiles 1.
- These strips 12 therefore have a width greater than the length of the rollers 11. They can be formed by a continuous rubber band or having notches in the width direction; by stacking and assembling at least two of these notched ribbons, the notches being advantageously offset from one another; by a brush with long and flexible bristles (in the case of FIGS. 4 and 5) or by any other flexible material, in any form whatsoever, capable of ensuring the same functions. In one embodiment of the invention shown in FIGS. 4 and 5, strips 12 formed of brushes with long and flexible bristles are used which have the advantage of ensuring good sealing for reduced friction on the bottom of the profile. the.
- the flexible strips 12 are formed by a ribbon 15 folded in half in the width direction and whose edges 16, located opposite, are applied respectively to the two sides of a lateral edge of the flexible curtain 8.
- a strand 17 of elastic foam can be placed inside the space delimited by the fold of the ribbon 15.
- the fixing of the strips 12 on the edges of the curtain 8 can be done in different ways.
- We can glue or sew, or glue and sew, weld, staple each strip part 12 corresponding to the interval separating two reinforcing bars on the edge of the inner surface or the outer surface of the curtain 8.
- the flexible curtain 8 is constituted by the assembly of two sheets of a suitable material (plasticized canvas, reinforced plastic or other), it seems advantageous to place each strip part 12 in sandwich between the edges of two sheets and to sew the whole then .
- the strip consists of a ribbon folded in half across the width ( Figure 6), the two edges of the ribbon can be sewn with the edge of the curtain, or stapled or glued or welded.
- One can also use a double fixing, for example, stapling and gluing.
- reinforcing bars 9 are provided, not carrying rollers at their ends and engaging in the U-shaped profiles 1 only over part of the depth of said profiles.
- the casing housing the bars 9 are then closed at one of their ends.
- the bars 9 are introduced into said sleeves by their free end, which is closed subsequently by a tab comprising a pressure or, advantageously, by a glued or thermo-bonded part.
- the lateral sealing strips 12 are no longer attached as in the previous embodiments but are constituted by the lateral edges of the flexible curtain 8 itself, which is provided for wider, of a about twenty centimeters, than the distance between the bottom of the U1 profiles.
Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to a flexible waterproof curtain for an accordion door.
It is known to produce accordion doors with a flexible curtain. A door of this type usually comprises a flexible curtain of reinforced plastic, stiffened at regular intervals by rebar and guided on its lateral edges in its upward and downward movements by vertical U sections. Reinforcement bars generally have rollers at their ends, which facilitate the folding or unfolding of the curtain. The door is actuated by a motor which rotates a shaft on which is secured the upper end of straps, which are, on the other hand, fixed to the lower bar and held at the level of certain other bars by guides.
A door like the one just described is not waterproof for two reasons. On the one hand, when the reinforcing bars are provided with rollers at their ends, the lateral edges of the flexible curtain are distant from the bottom of the U-shaped profiles at least the length of these rollers. A gap is thus formed at the side edges of the door, over its entire height, through which heat exchanges between inside and outside can occur. On the other hand, the flexible curtain is not held laterally by the U-shaped profiles in leaktight fashion, the parallel uprights of said profiles being spaced at least by the thickness of the folds that the curtain forms when the door is fully open. This spacing is therefore relatively large compared to the thickness of the curtain when, the door being closed, it is fully deployed. In this latter configuration, the curtain has a certain lateral clearance; it can beat with the winds exerted on its external surface or overpressures exerted on its internal surface.
To solve the problem posed by the tightness of accordion doors, several solutions have been considered so far. One has, for example, imagined to fix, inside and over the entire height of one or two parallel uprights of the U-profile " a brush with oblique bristles in the horizontal plane and turned towards the center of the door FIGS. 1, 2 and 3 show the schematic sectional view, along a horizontal plane, of three U-shaped sections 1, respectively comprising a
Another solution, described in French patent n ° 83 10970, consists in equipping one of the uprights of each of the two U-shaped profiles with a mobile sealing device which is applied automatically to the lateral edges of the flexible curtain to closing the door completely, thereby pressing it against the other upright of each of said sections, which may advantageously include a brush similar to those described above. This device makes it possible to achieve a good seal. However, it is a bit heavy, and therefore expensive. A characteristic common to all these sealing devices, with the exception of the last mentioned, is that, being fixed, -whether they are installed on one or on the two parallel uprights of the U-shaped profiles, they must act on a movable curtain; hence their limited effectiveness.
The object of the present invention is to eliminate this disadvantageous characteristic by providing the accordion door with a movable sealing member, not fixed to the U-shaped profiles, like the device described in the patent cited above, but subject to the flexible curtain itself. The flexible curtain according to the invention comprises, on each of its lateral edges, a strip of flexible material capable of being applied against the bottom of the upright or of the slide when the curtain is lowered. In the case where certain reinforcing bars are provided with guide rollers at their ends, the strip of flexible material can be interrupted at the level of the rollers, and must, in any case, be wider than the axial length of the rollers, in order not to be removed from the bottom of the slide by them. In the case where the reinforcing bars do not have rollers and where they penetrate into the U-profiles only over part of the depth of said profiles, the sealing strips can be formed by the edges of the curtain itself , said curtain being wider than the distance separating the bottom of the profiles.
- la figure 4 représente une vue en perspective schématique, comportant un arraché, d'une porte accordéon munie d'un organe d'étanchéïté selon l'invention;
- la figure 5 est une vue en coupe schématique d'un mode de réalisation de l'invention, selon un plan horizontal passant entre deux barres d'armature d'un profilé en U;
- FIG. 4 represents a schematic perspective view, comprising a cutaway, of an accordion door provided with a sealing member according to the invention;
- Figure 5 is a schematic sectional view of an embodiment of the invention, along a horizontal plane passing between two reinforcing bars of a U-shaped section;
- Figure 6 is a schematic sectional view of another embodiment of the invention, along a horizontal plane passing between two reinforcing bars of a U-shaped section; and,
- Figure 7 is a partial schematic perspective view of yet another embodiment of the invention.
In FIG. 4, the essential elements constituting an accordion door are recognized: vertical U-shaped profiles 1, connected at their upper end by a
With the embodiments of the invention described above, the fixing of the
In the embodiment of the invention shown in FIG. 7, reinforcing
The present invention is not limited to the embodiments which have just been described; on the contrary, it is subject to modifications and variants which will appear to those skilled in the art.
